Du Hengyan couldn't understand why he was so concerned about the little girl, Chi Mu Jiu. As the foremost figure in the underworld and a giant in the business world, he was used to commanding respect and had never lacked for beautiful women around him. Yet this time, his heart felt tightly gripped by her small presence.
His subordinates thought he was merely playing around; after all, Du Hengyan had never shown any interest in romantic relationships. But to their surprise, their boss had personally gone out to buy brown sugar for a woman. The news spread like wildfire among them, and everyone whispered that the world was about to change.
After purchasing the brown sugar, Du Hengyan returned to his residence and personally prepared ginger syrup in the kitchen. The man who usually commanded storms in the business world was now carefully handling pots and pans.
Once everything was ready, he took the ginger syrup to the hotel.
Du Hengyan gently pushed open the door to the room, careful not to disturb Chi Mu Jiu, who might still be asleep. The room was so quiet that he could only hear his own breathing. He quietly closed the door behind him and sent a message to Ye Qi.
Before long, there was a soft knock at the door. Ye Qi and two of his brothers stood outside, carrying some food and fruit.
This time, Du Hengyan surprisingly took the items himself, not allowing them to bring anything into the room. His gaze was firm and unyielding; this room was under his control alone.
Just as Du Hengyan accepted the items, he heard Chi Mu Jiu's sleepy voice calling from inside. He immediately gave Ye Qi a look, signaling them to leave while responding softly to the voice from within.
"I'm here."
His tone was gentle yet resolute.
Chi Mu Jiu slowly opened her eyes and saw a tall, handsome man with broad shoulders and a narrow waist placing bags on the table. His figure appeared even more imposing under the light.
"Wake up and have something to eat," Du Hengyan said, his voice filling the quiet room with an unusual warmth.
"Did you buy something to eat?"
Chimu Jiu rubbed her eyes and looked at the table where he had laid out the contents of the bag.
"Well, I didn't know what you liked, so I just bought a few things. If you don't like them, we can go out to eat."
Chimu Jiu got up from the bed and gazed at the table, which had both Chinese and Western food, as well as some fruit. For a moment, she felt a bit dazed.
This man is incredibly considerate.
"That must have cost quite a bit, right?" Chimu Jiu asked softly, feeling touched.
"Seven hundred thousand isn't enough for me to spend?" Du Hengyan replied, handing her a pink water bottle with a slight smirk, his lips curling up with a hint of mischief.
"Here, it's ginger syrup. This is the first time I've made it, so just bear with it."
The tips of his ears visibly flushed red, resembling a bashful young man.
Chimu Jiu suddenly recalled the first time she saw him blush; it was in the bathroom when they were together. The memory flashed through her mind, causing her cheeks to warm slightly.
So it wasn't an illusion; even this tall man with broad shoulders and a narrow waist could feel shy.
The pink water bottle had cute cartoon designs on it.
A muscular man with pink—what an indescribably delightful combination!
"What are you dawdling for? Drink it up obediently, or I won't mind finding another way to make you drink it," Du Hengyan said with a hint of threat in his tone, but his eyes were filled with affection.
"What kind of way?" she teased, propping her chin on her hands as she looked at him.
His handsome face was perfectly structured, with black hair framing his features. His deep-set eyes seemed to draw her in like a magnet, making her feel entranced once again.
She thought that he seemed to present a different persona in front of others; she couldn't quite pinpoint how he had changed.
In a moment of impulse, she leaned in and pecked his thin lips.
Du Hengyan quickly wrapped his arms around her, pulling her tightly into his embrace.
His heartbeat echoed in the twilight by Jiu's ear, strong and rapid.
Du Heng lowered his head,
"Little one, now is not the time to play with fire."
His voice was deep and hoarse, laced with endless temptation.
