When Du Hengyan woke up, the room was empty once again. Unlike last time, however, Chi Mu Jiu had packed her belongings neatly, as if she had never lived there at all.
There was no doubt about it—she had run away! And she had gone back to her country!
Du Hengyan's brows furrowed tightly, his expression dark and terrifying as he gritted his teeth and cursed, "That cunning woman!"
He clenched his fists in anger, his fingers turning white from the pressure. A dull ache throbbed at his temples, and he silently thanked himself for not having any psychological issues; otherwise, this woman might truly drive him to madness.
She had slept with him twice and left without hesitation both times. If word got out, what kind of reputation would he have left in the eyes of his brothers?
The more he thought about it, the worse his expression became. Just as he was about to call Ye Qi, he was surprised when the other party called him first.
"Boss, a brother saw that the young lady took the earliest flight back home. Do you want to pursue her?"
Du Hengyan took a deep breath, trying to suppress his inner fury. "No, let her go for now. I need to handle things here first."
Although he wanted to capture that woman immediately, his tone remained resolute and unyielding. Let her enjoy herself for a while before returning home; it would be more interesting that way.
Ye Qi seemed unconvinced and cautiously asked, "Boss, should I investigate further?"
It appeared that Ye Qi doubted whether this woman had come merely for leisure without any ulterior motives.
Du Hengyan paused for a moment before rejecting Ye Qi's suggestion. "No, I've tried before. She doesn't seem familiar with my name. If there’s any trouble, I won’t last a moment."
He added, "Have someone in the country follow her discreetly and report anything that happens."
He was serious and earnest, showing no signs of jest.
"Alright, boss!" Ye Qi responded quickly.
"I mean to protect her in secret; don’t scare her, she’s timid."
After repeated warnings, Du Hengyan finally hung up the phone.
If you want to shake me off, then I won’t let you have your way.
Du Hengyan slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, the swirling mist deepening the intensity of his gaze.
In these past few days, he had only smoked a cigarette when he first met her; he hadn’t touched one in the following days. He was afraid she wouldn’t be able to stand the smell of smoke, yet that little one still wanted to run away.
His eyes wandered around the room, searching for any trace left by that woman.
Eventually, his gaze settled on the table, where a clean surface stirred a wave of disappointment within him.
The pink water bottle was gone; had she taken it with her? Thinking of this, the corners of his mouth involuntarily lifted as he murmured to himself:
"At least she has some conscience."
Du Hengyan then stood up and quickly put on his clothes. Every movement he made was swift and decisive, reflecting his resolute character.
However, beneath this seemingly determined exterior lay a heart in turmoil.
He didn’t understand why he was so concerned about this woman who had left without a word twice.
As he buttoned his shirt, he silently vowed that when he saw her again, she would know just how foolish it was to escape from him.
He wanted her to stay by his side forever and never think about running away again; otherwise, he would lock her up!
"Feed the wolf!!!"
Yes! Feed the wolf!
With these thoughts swirling in his mind, he angrily left the room.
"Achoo!"
On the plane, in business class, Mo Jiu was dozing off when suddenly her nose began to itch, prompting an uncontrollable sneeze.
She instinctively curled up, feeling drowsy and confused, murmuring softly as if still in a dream.
"The air conditioning is a bit cold," she mumbled.
"Du," she called out again, her voice trailing off. However, there was no familiar response.
It was only then that she seemed to awaken from her dream, slowly opening her eyes, still a bit dazed. After a while, she finally realized that she was in the cabin of an airplane.
The man she had been calling out for had not only been left behind in a foreign hotel but had also vanished without a word.
A heavy stone seemed to press down on her heart.
Images flashed through her mind of Du leaning close to her ear, asking with deep affection and a hint of unease if she would run away again. Yet, she had still abandoned such an exquisite man in a foreign land.
"Miss Chi, hello. Is the air conditioning too cold for you?"
