As Chi Mu Jiu stepped out of that cold front door, the echoes of Chi Ci Yun and Ji Yu Yan filled her ears. They were trying to soothe her emotions while simultaneously hurling insults at her without restraint. Their sharp and bitter words pierced her heart like needles, leaving deep wounds.
"Miss Chi, why didn’t you take a taxi in this heavy rain?!"
The security guard outside the villa area spotted Chi Mu Jiu walking toward him, drenched in rain, looking dazed and lost. He quickly opened his umbrella and hurried over to assist the disheveled young woman.
Chi Mu Jiu lifted her head, her eyes vacant. It was only then that she realized she had unknowingly walked into the villa area. When had it started raining? She hadn’t even noticed. The cold raindrops hitting her skin were nothing compared to the chill in her heart.
"Miss Chi, may I escort you back?" the security guard asked cautiously.
"Miss Chi?" He called out several times, but Chi Mu Jiu remained unresponsive, still trapped in the heart-wrenching scene she had just experienced.
With no other choice, the security guard followed closely behind this beautiful yet broken woman, who was soaked to the bone. Rainwater dripped continuously from her hair, and her clothes clung tightly to her body, making her look utterly miserable.
Once they reached the entrance of the luxurious villa, the security guard didn’t wait for Chi Mu Jiu to open the door before turning to leave. There were regulations that prevented them from entering before their shift ended.
Chi Mu Jiu stood there in a daze for a long moment before finally stepping inside. The night was hazy, and the rain showed no signs of stopping. The downpour blurred the entire world, as if everything was submerged in a sea of gray.
After closing the door behind her, she silently walked into the living room. Water continued to drip from her body, but she seemed oblivious as she made her way to the sofa and sat down. Curling herself into a tight ball, it was as if she wanted to hide all her pain in that small corner.
The entire day had passed with only a piece of bread to fill her stomach, and now after being soaked in rain and walking such a long distance, her stomach felt completely empty. To make matters worse, her period had just ended, and she felt her body rapidly losing warmth as coldness gradually seeped into every inch of her skin.
Yet instead of rising to take a warm shower, she stared blankly out the window, her thoughts drifting far away. Wasn’t it said that if you keep something in your heart, it will eventually resonate?
She was increasingly tired of Du Hengyan.
In a certain country, in a spacious and bright office, sunlight streamed through the large floor-to-ceiling windows, dispelling the heavy atmosphere within. The office was decorated in a low-key yet luxurious manner, with thick handwoven carpets covering the floor.
On the walls hung several priceless masterpieces, one of which was an authentic work from a Renaissance master, vibrant in color and delicate in brushwork, exuding a strong artistic aura. The large desk was crafted from precious mahogany, its clear grain and warm luster reflecting unique taste, while the intricately carved corners added a touch of elegance. Neatly arranged on the desk were the latest computers and office supplies, each carefully selected.
The office chair was made of genuine leather, soft and comfortable, conforming to the body's curves to provide optimal support. A nearby bookshelf was filled with various rare books and items, some even being limited editions.
"Boss, everything has been taken care of," Ye Qi respectfully presented a tray to Du Hengyan, who sat at the desk. Du Hengyan lifted his gaze slightly; his deep eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything.
"Have the items been sent over from the domestic side?" he asked, his voice low and magnetic, clearly audible in the quiet office.
"I've already sent someone over; they should have arrived by now," Ye Qi quickly replied.
