Chimu Jiu had to admit that she had truly redefined what it meant to be a male model. Were all male models like Du Hengyan, capable of excelling in both the boardroom and the kitchen?
Looking at the table before her, laden with an array of delicious and aromatic dishes, Chimu Jiu felt her appetite surge. She devoured three bowls of rice in one go, only putting down her chopsticks reluctantly when she could eat no more. This meal was undoubtedly the most sumptuous and satisfying she had enjoyed in days.
“How many women have you cooked for?” she blurted out suddenly.
Du Hengyan was immediately annoyed, his deep-set eyes locking onto her as he growled softly, “Shut up!”
Chimu Jiu took his outburst as a sign that he was frustrated and didn’t want to discuss such matters. She mumbled, “Alright, alright, I won’t say anything. Why should I?”
After a brief pause, Du Hengyan stood up and began to clean the dining table in silence.
It wasn’t until a loud click echoed from the kitchen as he turned off the lights that he walked straight into the living room.
“Is the fever gone?” he asked while reaching out to touch Chimu Jiu’s forehead.
“Not as hot as before,” he noted with relief.
“Why are you so concerned about me?” Chimu Jiu playfully countered, taking hold of his hand. The warmth radiating from his palm gave her an inexplicable sense of comfort.
“Of course, I’m not going anywhere,” he replied, raising an eyebrow as he sat beside her, his hand still resting in hers.
At that moment, they were so close that the atmosphere shifted slightly, becoming somewhat delicate.
Chimu Jiu felt a sudden rush of guilt welling up inside her.
She had run away twice, the first time she was caught, and this time she was chased all the way home.
"I didn't mean to run," she said, her voice growing softer, tinged with a hint of panic and helplessness.
"So what was the reason this time?" Du Hengyan crossed his arms, his expression serious, as if she would face dire consequences for not being able to explain herself.
Chimu Jiu wanted to clarify but didn’t know where to start. Should she begin with how she sneaked out to prevent Chi Qiyun from finding a wealthy husband, or should she talk about how she lost her mother at a young age and how her father brought home a girl who didn’t belong to him when he married again?
Any one of these matters would be difficult for Du Hengyan, an outsider, to understand. He knew what was going through her mind; she remained silent out of self-preservation. She didn’t know his true identity and mistakenly thought he was just a male model. Yet even so, she still cared for him and wanted to protect him.
"Just give me a kiss, and I’ll let this topic go," Du Hengyan leaned closer, his deep-set eyes dark and intense, as if his burning gaze could melt Chimu Jiu away.
Despite having kissed Du Hengyan before, Chimu Jiu felt shy, her cheeks flushing like the evening sky. He was such a handsome man, exactly her ideal type. With him flirting so directly with her, Chimu Jiu found it hard to resist and slowly leaned in closer, pressing her lips against his.
"I said just two kisses; don’t try to back out now," Du Hengyan's voice was low and magnetic, easily capturing Chimu Jiu's desire to escape.
He held her wrist firmly; the grip wasn’t too tight but enough that she couldn’t break free.
"Then come a little closer," he said.
Du Hengyan did as instructed, leaning in even closer. The distance between them shrank until they could feel each other's breath.
She leaned against him, her soft lips brushing against his neck. A faint red mark appeared on his skin from her kiss.
"Is this okay?"
Chi Mu Jiu lay on his chest, looking at him with a hint of pride in her eyes.
