Chimu Jiu instinctively leaned closer to Du Hengyan, trying to use his tall frame to shield herself from the gaze outside the door. She clutched the hem of his shirt tightly, appearing somewhat flustered and anxious.
"Do you know them?" Du Hengyan asked in a low voice.
Chimu Jiu nodded, hiding behind him like a frightened kitten.
Seeing her avoidance, Du Hengyan realized that the person outside must be someone she knew well. He pressed the button to close the door again, and outside, He Yujiao complained loudly into the elevator.
"Can't you see there are still people inside? Can't you wait a moment?"
Her tone was filled with annoyance. However, as she spoke, He Yujiao finally looked up and saw Du Hengyan in the elevator. His tall and sturdy figure resembled an impenetrable wall; his handsome, cold features were sculpted to perfection, but the stormy anger in his deep-set eyes made it clear that he was not someone to be trifled with.
He Yujiao froze for a moment, her arrogant demeanor instantly extinguished. She quickly removed her hand from the elevator door and awkwardly said, "It's nothing, you go ahead, brother."
A man of his stature was clearly not someone easy to deal with, and she had no desire to invite trouble upon herself. Chimu Jiu remained hidden behind Du Hengyan, leaving He Yujiao only able to see the man radiating an intimidating aura.
Once the elevator doors slowly closed, Chimu Jiu finally let out a sigh of relief. The elevator went straight to the first floor, and in order to avoid the women upstairs, she couldn't help but quicken her pace.
Noticing her furtive behavior, Du Hengyan remained silent and simply followed her closely. Although he felt puzzled, he understood that this was not the right moment to ask questions.
It wasn't until they got into the car that Chimu Jiu finally relaxed, as if she had just experienced a thrilling escape.
"Do you think I'm not presentable?" Du Hengyan asked coldly in the car. His voice was deep, carrying a hint of unnoticeable disappointment and reluctance.
As soon as Chi Mu Jiu wanted to explain, she looked up and saw Chi Qi Yun's car parked across the street. Her expression instantly changed, and she hurriedly lowered her head to avoid eye contact, saying urgently, "Let's go back quickly, and I'll explain everything."
Du Heng Yan noticed her fixation on the red Ferrari in front of them, from which a stunning woman emerged. The woman was impeccably made up and dressed in luxurious attire, exuding an air of arrogance with every gesture.
It seemed that the alluring woman had also noticed them.
"Oh no, oh no! We have to leave quickly; we can't let Chi Qi Yun see us!" Without a second thought, Du Heng Yan started the car and pressed the accelerator, causing it to speed away from the parking area like an arrow released from a bow.
The scenery outside the window rushed past, but Chi Mu Jiu's heart continued to race. Meanwhile, Chi Qi Yun was filled with confusion as she watched the car drive by her side.
"Why is Chi Mu Jiu's car here?"
Since Chi Mu Jiu left home after expressing her dissatisfaction with the arranged marriage, she hadn't returned to the Chi family. Chi Qi Yun had initially thought it was just a tantrum, but seeing her car today raised suspicions.
Her doubts grew stronger. Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she immediately called He Yu Jiao, who was upstairs.
"No, I haven't seen Chi Mu Jiu. But while I was waiting for the elevator, I did see a super handsome guy with an amazing figure!" He Yu Jiao excitedly described over the phone.
Chi Qi Yun patiently listened to He Yu Jiao's infatuated ramblings and began to form a rough guess in her mind. She was almost certain that Chi Mu Jiu was involved with this man.
Could it be that she was keeping a man outside? Is that why she refused to agree to the arranged marriage?
The more Chi Qi Yun thought about it, the more reasonable her suspicion seemed. If that were true, then she had caught Chi Mu Jiu in her most shameful secret. The news of the eldest daughter of the renowned Chi family in the business circle keeping a man would be explosive just by its title!
Chi Qiuyun's lips curled into a smug smile, as if she could already envision the scene of Chi Muji being harshly reprimanded by their father. With this thought in mind, she clicked her heels and headed straight for the surveillance room of the shopping mall.
To prove everything, she needed evidence. With evidence in hand, she could present her case to her father convincingly.
Twenty minutes later, Chi Qiuyun emerged from the surveillance room, and her phone now contained a new set of surveillance footage.
