The sun shone through the clouds, casting its light upon the magnificent estate of the Chi family.
The spacious living room was bustling with relatives, all gathered for the family banquet. People whispered and laughed among themselves, creating an atmosphere that seemed lively but was laced with hidden tensions.
Today was the day of the Chi family feast.
"How is it? Did you get through?" The head of the Chi family, Chi Feng, could no longer sit still. He turned to Ji Yuyan, who was holding her phone, and asked anxiously. His gaze was fixed on her, and the wrinkles on his forehead deepened.
Ji Yuyan shook her head gently, her expression troubled. "No, sir. Mu Jiu's phone has been off."
Though she appeared worried, a hint of concealed satisfaction flickered in her eyes.
Standing nearby, Chi Qiyun observed everything with keen interest. She knew her dear relatives were secretly reveling in this situation. This was a perfect opportunity; with all the relatives present at the family banquet, if she could subtly reveal that Chi Mu Jiu was off gallivanting with a man, it would utterly ruin her reputation within the family.
As the time for the banquet approached, Chi Feng maintained his composure, but his dark expression betrayed the fury brewing inside him. He took a deep breath, striving to suppress his anger. "Let’s keep this quiet for now; the banquet must go on."
Ji Yuyan and Chi Qiyun exchanged knowing glances.
"Understood, sir." Ji Yuyan inclined her head in acknowledgment.
"Yes, dear." Chi Qiyun quickly chimed in.
"Dear, Lei Ji is almost here; I’ll go prepare." A sweet smile lit up Chi Qiyun's face as anticipation sparkled in her eyes. Ever since their last gathering, her relationship with Lei Ji had been progressing quite well.
Chi Feng naturally understood the pros and cons of the situation. He nodded, his previously troubled expression easing slightly, and spoke in a calm tone.
"Qiyun, you must take good care of Young Master Lei."
"Rest assured, Father. I will be obedient," Qiyun replied sweetly.
"Alright, you should hurry. The family banquet is about to begin," Chi Feng urged his daughter.
"Master, let’s take our seats first. The relatives are all waiting," Ji Yuyan said gently, taking Chi Feng's hand and leading him toward the main table.
The people in the living room gradually quieted down, preparing to welcome the upcoming family banquet. However, each person harbored their own thoughts; this gathering was destined to be anything but peaceful.
Once everyone was seated, a tall man dressed in luxurious attire walked in through the entrance. He wore a finely tailored black suit over a snow-white shirt, complemented by a deep blue tie that exuded both solemnity and style.
With a broad forehead and thick eyebrows framing a pair of deep-set eyes, his neatly cropped hair added an air of competence and vitality.
Beside him, Chi Qiyun blushed with shyness.
The newcomer was none other than Lei Ji, the heir of the powerful Lei family among the five great clans.
"Master Chi, it’s an honor to meet you," he greeted, drawing the attention of everyone present.
"This small token is a gesture from my Lei family; I hope you will accept it," Lei Ji said as he finished speaking. Three bodyguards behind him opened exquisite gift boxes one by one to present them.
The jade Guanyin glowed with a warm luster, its deep green hue showcasing delicate texture and superb craftsmanship that made one marvel at its priceless value.
The golden Buddha statue sparkled brilliantly, lifelike and seemingly radiating a sacred glow.
The authentic ancient painting bore the marks of time; its ink fragrance still lingered, with brush strokes revealing the master's style.
"Oh my, Young Master Lei, why such formality? We are all family here. Please," Chi Feng exclaimed with a broad smile after just a glance at the treasures presented before him.
This smile expressed satisfaction with the gift, as well as delight at Lei Ji's gesture.
