On a weekend afternoon, sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains, casting a gentle glow in the spacious bedroom.
"Sweetheart, if you don't wake up now, you'll miss today's auction," Du Hengyan's voice rang in her ears, laced with a hint of urgency and indulgence.
Chi Mu Jiu rubbed her eyes. As soon as she opened them, she was greeted by the imposing visage of Du Hengyan, magnified in her line of sight. The man had clearly already changed into his clothes.
He wore a dark red patterned cardigan that perfectly outlined his broad shoulders and slim waist, revealing a simple yet elegant undershirt beneath. His high cheekbones and forehead, combined with his deep-set eyes, always gave off an air of aloofness that made others hesitant to approach him. Yet, when he faced Chi Mu Jiu, there was an undeniable warmth that flickered in his gaze.
"What? Are you mesmerized?" Du Hengyan's lips curled slightly as he leaned down to lightly touch her nose.
"I've already picked out your dress and placed it in the changing room. If you get up now, considering the time it takes to get there, we still have two hours."
As he spoke, he casually glanced at the exquisite watch on his wrist.
"Two hours?? No way, how did I sleep so soundly!"
At his words, Chi Mu Jiu's drowsiness vanished instantly. She hurriedly scrambled out of bed and rushed into the bathroom, muttering anxiously to herself, "No time! No time!"
Having Du Hengyan by her side these past few days had made her prone to sleeping in, but today was an important auction, and she definitely didn't want to be late.
"What's with the rush? Are you worried about being late or eager to see someone?" Du Hengyan leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed over his chest, raising an eyebrow as he watched her flustered morning routine.
His tone carried a teasing edge, tinged with a barely noticeable hint of jealousy.
"Someone is really petty; still feeling sour about it. You've finished all the snacks from the store—are you okay? Are you okay?"
Chi Mu Jiu brushed her teeth while rolling her eyes at him, though her words came out muffled due to the foam in her mouth. Her playful demeanor was enough to elicit a chuckle from him.
Du Hengyan pressed his forehead in frustration, silently thinking to himself: This woman's mouth will eventually get her into trouble. Yet he also understood that he was utterly powerless against her; after all, she had barged into his heart unguarded and was recklessly stirring his emotions.
Noticing the silence from him, Chi Mu Jiu looked up. The reflection in the mirror showed a tall and robust man, like a towering mountain, exuding a strong sense of security. At this moment, she had no time to consider these things; her gaze was fixed on his face, trying to discern any signs of discomfort.
Why isn’t he speaking?
Chi Mu Jiu broke the silence, her voice tinged with confusion.
I’m just thinking about when I can seal that mouth of yours so you’ll never say anything like that again.
Du Hengyan rubbed his fingers together, his long fingers clearly defined and exuding an inexplicable sense of strength. His gaze shot towards her, deep eyes seemingly ablaze with a fiery intensity—hot and dangerous.
Chi Mu Jiu shivered unexpectedly, inwardly muttering:
This guy's gaze is really intimidating.
Alright, alright, I won’t say anything more, she mumbled, her voice growing softer like a child caught doing something wrong.
This guy really can’t stand even a hint of criticism.
(But Your Majesty! Honest words are often hard to hear.)
I’ll wait for you downstairs; there’s no time for breakfast. I’ve packed it all in the car; we can eat on the way.
Du Hengyan interrupted her thoughts, his voice still steady and powerful as ever.
Chi Mu Jiu responded with an acknowledgment just as she heard the sound of the door closing—Du Hengyan had already gone downstairs.
She couldn’t help but let out a slight sigh; this man’s temperament was sometimes truly inscrutable.
To be fair, aside from being a bit irritable at times and looking fierce on the outside, Du Hengyan treated her exceptionally well. For the past half month, he had made sure meals were served on time—never missing a single one.
He meticulously managed household expenses and daily necessities—tea, rice, oil, and salt were all well organized. Even household chores were entirely handled by Du Hengyan; washing clothes, mopping floors, cleaning rooms—he was truly a versatile man who could manage both the living room and kitchen.
Meanwhile, she only had to focus on eating, drinking, and having fun. Clearly, Du Hengyan was treating her like a pet.
Not daring to delay too long, Chi Mu Jiu opened the door to the changing room with a hint of anticipation. Nearby hung a similarly dark red dress on the wardrobe.
She frowned slightly, perhaps because there were too many new dresses in her wardrobe; she couldn't recall ever purchasing a dress in this color. However, this color did match quite well with the outfit that Du Heng Yan had. Couple's attire? No wonder he was so coincidentally picking clothes for me.
