Chimu Jiu lazily leaned against the sofa, the large LCD television playing a popular drama that had recently captured everyone's attention. On the coffee table, a bucket of freshly prepared instant noodles emitted an enticing aroma. At this moment, she felt slightly relaxed. With Du Heng not around, there was no one to restrict her from indulging in snacks.
For Chimu Jiu, being able to eat instant noodles so freely was a rare treat. Just as she carefully lifted the noodles in her hands, ready to savor a bite, her phone, which lay beside her, suddenly vibrated incessantly. She frowned slightly and glanced at the screen, where the caller ID displayed the word "Qin."
Taking a deep breath, she answered the call. On the other end, she heard Qin Feng's steady voice: "Mu Jiu, everything is ready. Come over for dinner tonight."
Chimu Jiu hadn’t expected Qin to act so quickly. It seemed that only matters related to the Chimu family could prompt him to be this attentive. During the day, her conversations with him were few and far between—pitifully rare.
"Okay." Chimu Jiu replied briefly and didn’t say anything more.
The next few seconds fell into silence on both ends of the line. She wasn’t sure if Qin had more to say, nor did she know what else she should contribute to the conversation. They lingered in silence for a moment longer until Chimu Jiu finally broke it: "Qin, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up now. See you tonight."
Just before the call ended, she thought she heard Qin let out a long sigh. That sigh seemed to carry a multitude of unspoken emotions.
The aroma of the noodles still lingered in the air, but suddenly Chimu Jiu found herself less inclined to eat them. She tossed the noodles into the trash can and got up to walk into the kitchen.
Eating instant noodles in front of Du Hang is the only way to make it interesting.
Chi Mu Jiu changed into her outfit and stood in front of the full-length mirror, carefully examining herself. She wore a simple yet elegant black dress, the hem swaying slightly, reflecting her determination and confidence. She gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her bright eyes and pearly white teeth complementing her snow-like skin, exuding a unique charm.
Chi Mu Jiu nodded in satisfaction. Not bad; she was indeed a natural beauty. Tonight's mission was significant—her goal was to secure the shareholding documents.
In the courtyard, the driver had been waiting at the gate. The car slowly started and headed toward the Chi family residence. The dusk descended like a massive black curtain, gradually enveloping the earth. Yet, within this twilight, the Chi residence was brightly lit, resembling a dazzling palace. The bright lights spilled through the windows into the courtyard, as if narrating the liveliness and prosperity within.
As Chi Mu Jiu stepped through the main gate, the servants greeted her as usual. "Miss, you have arrived." The familiar greetings echoed in the air, carrying a hint of respect and familiarity. Chi Mu Jiu nodded slightly, feeling little stirrings in her heart. She had long grown accustomed to their greetings and to life here.
Just then, a familiar voice reached her ears. "Mu Jiu." Chi Mu Jiu turned toward the sound and was surprised to see her parent personally welcoming her at the door. This was quite unusual. In her memory, her parent had always been serious and rarely displayed such gestures.
She composed herself and replied, "Dear." Yet her gaze never lingered on Ji Yuyan and Chi Qiyun, who stood behind Chifeng.
