In the lavishly decorated restaurant of the Chi family, Chi Yuyan watched her daughter, Chi Qiyun, laughing and joking with Su Siyu, a smile blooming on her face, though her words held a hint of reproach.
“Qiyun, you shouldn’t tease Siyu like that; he’s always been sensitive about his looks.”
Chi Mujiu, observing the mother-daughter duo, couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.
“Those two are always putting on a show.”
Noticing the atmosphere had grown somewhat delicate, Chi Feng quickly interjected with a smile.
“Alright now, don’t just chat away; the food is getting cold.”
With that, he gestured for everyone to start eating. However, at that moment, Chi Mujiu had no appetite. Her gaze was fixed on her father, Chi Feng.
“Father, I don’t understand what you mean by this.”
Seeing that her father seemed completely unwilling to bring up the matter of the share transfer, she asked directly.
Chi Feng paused at her words, his movements faltering as his expression shifted slightly.
Chi Mujiu felt a growing unease as she observed her father’s reaction. Meanwhile, Chi Qiyun and Chi Yuyan exchanged glances filled with schadenfreude, their eyes gleaming with amusement at the unfolding drama. Only Su Siyu sat there clueless, unable to grasp why the atmosphere had suddenly turned so tense.
Watching it all unfold filled Chi Mujiu with frustration and helplessness. She hadn’t intended to discuss such matters in front of Su Siyu, but her father’s actions were infuriating. She had thought he simply wanted to treat his daughter to a meal; little did she know it was a trap.
Setting down her chopsticks, she turned to face Chi Feng at the head of the table, her eyes simmering with anger and coldness.
Recalling her earlier thoughts made her realize how naïve she had been. She believed that having secured a collaboration with the Ye family would allow her to negotiate a decent deal with her father. But now it seemed she had underestimated the complexity of the situation.
Her father’s intentions were clear: he had summoned her here under false pretenses and had no intention of signing the share transfer documents.
“You truly are ambitious!”
Chi Mu Jiu self-deprecatingly noted that her hands trembled slightly as she leaned against the armchair. Her father wanted her to secure a business partnership while also arranging a marriage alliance with the Su family. He had never given up on turning her into a mere tool for commercial marriage.
Hearing this, Su Si Yi's previously bewildered gaze sharpened, filled with curiosity as he fixed his eyes on Chi Feng. At that moment, even if he were dense, he could not fail to see the underlying implications. He realized that he had unknowingly become a pawn in Chi Bo Bo's game, used as a weapon.
A flicker of annoyance and anger crossed Su Si Yi's eyes; he felt like a fool, toyed with at someone else's whim.
"Chi Mu Jiu, some things require sacrificing the small for the greater good; the family's interests outweigh everything!" Chi Feng replied, perhaps to mask his inner unease, his voice unconsciously rising in intensity.
Upon hearing this, Chi Mu Jiu was momentarily taken aback before a cold smile crept onto her lips. What a noble sentiment of sacrificing the small for the greater good. She looked at her father with eyes full of fury and disappointment.
"Mu Jiu, Si Yi..." Ji Yu Yan attempted to interject but was silenced by a chilling glance from Chi Mu Jiu. She dared not speak again.
"Then it seems our negotiations have fallen through," Chi Mu Jiu sighed deeply, resolute.
She understood that Su Si Yi's appearance was not due to any schemes from Ji Yu Yan and her daughter but rather her father's intentions. In her father's eyes, only status and power mattered; even if Du Hang were to secure a lucrative partnership for her, his identity would never gain Chi Feng's approval.
How ridiculous. Since her father looked down on her man, no one would have an easy time from that day forward!
