In times like these, the Chi family could not afford any mistakes. No matter how strained their family relationships were, they had to present a facade of harmony and prosperity in front of outsiders. This was about face and authority.
Chi Mu Jiu lay on her bed, careful not to move too much for fear of aggravating her injury. She had been waiting for news about the press conference, but she hadn’t expected to receive the information so late, and only in a message. Perhaps he truly felt guilty about her.
A flicker of hope crossed Chi Mu Jiu's mind, but she quickly suppressed it. Seeing that she hadn’t responded, Chi Feng sent another message:
“Mu Jiu, for tomorrow’s press conference, I still hope you can attend.”

After sending that message, Chi Mu Jiu exited the chat interface. She closed her eyes, her mind swirling with thoughts. Tomorrow’s cooperation meeting was crucial for the Chi family, and she had to bear this responsibility and obligation.
Her phone vibrated again in her hand. Chi Mu Jiu answered the call, and on the other end came Du Hang's gentle voice that reached deep into her heart.
“Are you getting ready to rest?”
Chi Mu Jiu was momentarily taken aback; it seemed that after a few days apart, his voice had softened considerably.
“Mm.” She replied softly.
"Are you feeling down? Does the wound still hurt?"
Having just finished dealing with some matters, Du Hengyan, worried that she might be anxious, called her without even putting away his gun. Hearing her gentle tone, which hinted at her poor mood, he immediately inquired with concern.
"It doesn't hurt anymore. Don't worry about me; I change the dressing on time every day," Chi Mu Jiu quickly responded.
"Don't hide anything from me; I can tell."
Chi Mu Jiu fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "Tomorrow is the signing of the cooperation agreement between the Chi and Ye families." There was a hint of helplessness and conflict in her voice.
"If you want to go, then go. There's no need to do something you don't like."
Du Hengyan's tone was light, but Chi Mu Jiu could sense the firmness and support behind it. She knew he never simply offered comforting words; he genuinely cared for her well-being.
Suddenly, Chi Mu Jiu felt that her heart wasn't as heavy anymore. "Du Hengyan," she softly called his name.
"What do you want me to do, my dear?"
"I can't sleep well without you here. When will you come back?" Her voice carried a touch of grievance.
"I miss you even more than you miss me. I'll handle everything as quickly as I can. Just sleep well; tonight's bedtime story is 'The Little Mermaid.'"
Du Hengyan's voice was gentle and soothing, as if it possessed a magical power that gradually relaxed Chi Mu Jiu's body and mind.
In his voice, she seemed to see the vast ocean, while on the other end of the line, Du Hengyan felt slightly reassured listening to Chi Mu Jiu's even breathing.
"Goodnight, little raccoon."
