With every step she took, she could feel her heart racing, a mix of tension and unease swirling within her. After entering the safe passage, Chi Mu Jiu heard the sound of a car engine starting behind her. The noise grew fainter as it moved away, gradually fading from her ears.
She pressed her ear tightly against the door, straining to listen. The luxurious business vehicle had already departed from the exit, and she let out a slow breath, her taut nerves easing just a bit.
Just as she prepared to move forward again, a familiar woman's voice called out from behind her.
"Sister, where have you been? The media friends are looking for you everywhere!"
There was a forced familiarity in the tone that stirred a wave of disgust within Chi Mu Jiu. She turned to see Chi Qi Yun approaching her. Dressed in a rose-red gown that swayed with each step, her graceful figure seemed to flaunt something.
"What do you want?" Chi Mu Jiu met her sultry gaze with indifference, her tone icy.
"Sister, this collaboration for the Chi family really owes a lot to your good friend who is willing to spend so much on you. I must say, I’m quite envious," Chi Qi Yun said with malicious jealousy lacing her words. The sarcastic undertone ignited Chi Mu Jiu's anger instantly.
Without hesitation, she slapped Chi Qi Yun across the face with all her might.
"How dare you!"
Having already been in a foul mood due to Pei Si Qing, Chi Mu Jiu found it particularly infuriating that this green tea b*tch chose this moment to provoke her with such snide remarks. If she continued to tolerate her, who knew how far she would go?
With that thought in mind, Chi Mu Jiu raised her hand again and grabbed a fistful of Chi Qi Yun's hair, delivering two sharp slaps in quick succession.
The crisp sound of the slaps echoed through the safe passage.
"Chi Mu Jiu, you’re truly insane!"
Chi Qi Yun retaliated fiercely, shedding any semblance of her usual gentle demeanor.
She reached out to grab Chi Mu Jiu's face, but Chi Mu Jiu swiftly turned and pinned her against the wall, rendering her immobile.
Chi Mu Jiu's face was filled with fury as she stared intently at Chi Qi Yun. "If you keep talking back to me, I'll strip you bare and throw you out onto the street!"
"You dare, Chi Mu Jiu! I'll tell Father!" Chi Qi Yun shouted frantically, only to be met with Chi Mu Jiu pressing her face harder against the wall.
"I would do this even in front of Father!"
Chi Qi Yun felt a surge of fear; she could hear the anger and dissatisfaction in Chi Mu Jiu's voice. That intense emotion seemed to manifest as a tangible pressure, tightening around her heart.
With a cold snort, Chi Mu Jiu noticed that Chi Qi Yun no longer dared to speak further and finally released her.
At that moment, Chi Mu Jiu exuded an aura of control, like a queen commanding respect, instilling fear in those around her.
"Chi Mu Jiu! Don’t think that just because you have shares in the Chi family, I will let this go! The Chi family is mine! Only mine!"
Chi Qi Yun covered her face, tears welling in her eyes as she shouted angrily at the retreating figure of Chi Mu Jiu.
Chi Mu Jiu stood by the emergency exit, silhouetted against the light, her black evening gown accentuating her figure perfectly. She tilted her head slightly, an invisible pressure radiating from her.
"Then go ahead and try."
