"Boss, the brothers have come to report that the goods and weapons are all safe and sound. They were successfully escorted back."
Two trusted subordinates stood respectfully in front of Du Chengyan, their faces relaxed after completing the task. One of them couldn't help but add, "But are we interrupting you and the Madam?"
As he spoke, a hint of gossip flickered across both their faces. Hearing this, Du Chengyan's lips curled slightly, and he raised an eyebrow, a barely perceptible smile flashing in his eyes.
"The Madam is timid and sensitive; some things are better left unsaid," he replied, his tone affectionate. However, the rising inflection in his voice made Chi Mu Jiu feel as though he was teasing her.
The two subordinates exchanged knowing glances, fully aware of their boss's fondness for his wife, as if silently communicating that they understood.
"Understood, Boss. How should we handle those people downstairs?" one subordinate asked, slightly bowing as he sought Du Chengyan's opinion.
"Yes, Seventh Master is still recuperating in the hospital. All dealings involving these goods must be approved by him," the other chimed in, worry etched on his face.
"Seventh Master?" This was a name she had never heard before.
Chi Mu Jiu grew increasingly puzzled as her thoughts drifted back to events that had transpired earlier in the country. Could it be that Du Chengyan's sudden return to a certain country was due to this person named Seventh Master being injured? He had previously mentioned that a friend had encountered an accident; it was highly likely that this was the individual referred to by her subordinates.
As Chi Mu Jiu pondered silently, she continued to listen quietly to their conversation. The atmosphere in the room felt somewhat tense.
After a moment, one of the subordinates broke the brief silence. "Boss, will you be going personally?" Both men looked at him with curiosity and anticipation.
Du Hengyan's expression softened instinctively as he glanced at the person in his arms, Chi Mu Jiu. He then waved his hand, slightly parted his lips, and spoke in a deep, powerful voice:
"Keep your composure during the interrogation. Maintain some dignity, and make sure to get the information we need."
"Understood! We're on it!"
The two men exchanged excited glances, their faces lighting up with enthusiasm as they responded loudly. The brothers had been simmering with anger over Ye Qi's injury for days. Ye Qi had a close bond with them and had been injured while protecting their arms and covering for them, nearly losing his life in the process. Now that their boss and his wife were personally taking action to capture the culprit who had attacked their brother and disrupted their arms trade, they were eager to interrogate him and vent their frustrations.
After slightly bowing, the two men turned and strode confidently into the elevator.
Chi Mu Jiu gently spoke up, a hint of hesitation in her voice. "What does the lady want to ask?"
Du Hengyan lowered his head slightly to look at Chi Mu Jiu, his gaze tender and indulgent. "Ye Qi? Who is he?"
"Ye Qi has been managing both the business inside and outside while I was away," he explained without hesitation.
Chi Mu Jiu nodded thoughtfully, secretly amazed; that was quite a significant position, no wonder Du Hengyan held him in such high regard.
Du Hengyan paused for a moment before continuing his explanation. "I rushed back because of him. A crucial batch of arms was hijacked, and it was Ye Qi who risked his life to protect it along with his brothers."
As he spoke, his eyes grew deeper, the light within them flickering ominously.
"So, it was Pei Jin who stole the arms?" Chi Mu Jiu pressed for more information.
