"Mr. Du?"
The woman called softly, her voice delicate as she moved forward gracefully, like a lotus swaying in the wind.
However, as she approached Du Hengyan, a single cold and piercing glance from him felt like an invisible pressure, instantly filling her heart with fear.
He is still so intimidating, the woman thought to herself, hesitating in her steps. She couldn't help but recall the overwhelming sense of authority she felt during their previous encounters.
Just as she was caught in her indecision, Chi Mu Jiu could no longer contain herself. She elegantly stepped out of the car, dressed in a beautifully exquisite gown that made her appear particularly dignified and graceful.
"Brother Du, please help me. I'm a bit scared; you startled me just now," Chi Mu Jiu said softly, her eyes sparkling like stars, evoking a sense of sympathy as if she had truly been frightened by the earlier scene. She looked every bit the innocent little wife.
Du Hengyan was momentarily taken aback by her calling him "Brother Du." His brows raised slightly, and then he gentlemanly extended his hand to assist Chi Mu Jiu.
The woman observed this interaction closely, taking in Chi Mu Jiu's features—delicate and refined, her skin like jade; her long hair cascading naturally over her shoulders, enhancing her noble and elegant aura.
At that moment, Chi Mu Jiu's beautiful eyes swept over to the woman standing nearby, exuding an air of haughty confidence.
Du Hengyan finally understood; it seemed that this little wife only displayed her powerful presence in certain specific or special situations.
However, faced with the current situation, the woman did not show any signs of timidity. Instead, she offered a slightly awkward yet polite smile and replied, "Sister, I am friends with Mr. Du. We have collaborated many times in business. Just recently, we had dinner together and had a pleasant conversation."
As she spoke, a burst of cheerful laughter followed. Yet when these words reached Chi Mu Jiu's ears, she immediately sensed an unusual undertone.
Isn't this just the language of tea etiquette?
"Having a meal?
Sister?
Chatting?
And enjoying the conversation quite a bit?
Isn't this just a blatant provocation?"
This was what Chi Mu Jiu thought, yet her face remained adorned with a gentle smile. Her beautiful eyes gazed at Du Heng Yan, shimmering as if waves of light were dancing within them.
Though she did not speak, that single exchange of glances conveyed a profound meaning that Du Heng Yan fully grasped. His expression turned as cold as ice, and without hesitation, he replied, "I don’t know her."
Upon hearing this, the woman's cheerful laughter abruptly ceased, replaced by a few forced chuckles. Feeling somewhat out of place, she lowered her voice and gently reminded him, "Mr. Du, do you remember the last multinational project? I was the one who reported to you and discussed the collaboration."
As she spoke, her eyes remained fixed on Du Heng Yan, hoping to catch even the slightest hint of recognition on his impassive face. After a moment, he slightly nodded, indicating that he indeed recalled some details.
Then, his deep-set gaze pierced through her like a tranquil abyss as he spoke in a calm and indifferent tone, "Yes, I remember. We did have a meal together that day; however, there were dozens of people present. We all sat around a large round table. Where were you seated?"
His words were delivered lightly, yet they carried an unmistakable air of disregard for the woman before him, suggesting that he had left no impression of her at all. The woman stood there awkwardly, unsure whether to stay or leave.
Chi Mu Jiu nodded in satisfaction, secretly pleased with the turn of events.
