"Boss, the men have already taken him for inspection."
As the car door swung open, a subordinate hurried over to report, his expression filled with respect.
"Understood."
Du Chengyan replied indifferently, his voice cool. Yet, his gaze lingered playfully on the beautiful figure in his arms, whose body was burning with fever.
He could feel that Chi Mu Jiu's temperature had risen again, as if the heat was rekindling. He clicked his tongue softly, a hint of frustration bubbling within him.
Chi Mu Jiu, however, seemed unfazed by it all; perhaps her body had already adapted to this level of discomfort. She looked at Du Chengyan, noticing his furrowed brow, as if he were hesitating over something.
"I'm fine. It's just a mild fever; it might get better soon," she said, reaching out to gently smooth away the worry etched on his forehead with her hand, her gaze warm and resolute.
Du Chengyan looked at her, filled with tenderness.
"Get someone over here quickly; I don't have that much time," he commanded the few men outside, urgency lacing his tone.
"Yes, boss!"
Chi Mu Jiu settled onto the soft sofa, slightly tilting her ear to concentrate on the conversation between Du Chengyan and a stranger. The room was thick with a tense and mysterious atmosphere.
"Boss Du, we must thank you again; your contributions have brought significant breakthroughs to our plan!" The man's words were laced with genuine gratitude.
He slowly rose to his feet and extended his hand—strong and firm.
Du Chengyan maintained a calm demeanor as he grasped the stranger's hand with his own steady grip. This simple gesture seemed to carry the weight of utmost respect.
After their handshake concluded, both men resumed their seats, their movements elegant and composed.
Ye Qi still needed Boss Du to take care of him more.
The voice of the stranger echoed again, possessing a unique penetrating quality. His every gesture was precise, and even his posture was upright, resembling a tall pine tree, exuding the aura of a steadfast man and giving off an overwhelming sense of passionate pressure.
"Of course," Du Hengyan replied, his expression remaining as calm as water.
Chi Mu Jiu could sense the clash of two distinctly different energies in this space. The stranger's aura was filled with righteousness and fervor, radiating boundless strength. In contrast, Du Hengyan's presence was a blend of hostility and indifference, emanating a mysterious air that instilled fear, like an unfathomable abyss.
Upon hearing the stranger mention Ye Qi, Chi Mu Jiu instantly understood. Her gaze shifted between the stranger and Du Hengyan, her thoughts racing.
This stranger, based on his demeanor and the topics he brought up, was likely someone sent directly by the Chinese military to handle the transfer of the several tons of goods won in the last gambling match. So, the buyer mentioned on the phone was indeed the military?
This thought became increasingly clear in Chi Mu Jiu's mind.
"Boss Du, I have another very important and urgent piece of information that I need to verify with you," the stranger said directly, his tone serious and grave. "The situation in the lawless zone is too chaotic. If our people intervene, it could lead to an international riot."
Chi Mu Jiu's heart jolted at his words. She understood that actions which even the military dared not intervene lightly were fraught with danger beyond measure.
It turned out that Du Hengyan was not only engaged in arms trading with the military but also served as a massive bridge connecting our country with neighboring nations against underground criminal activities.
