When Chi Mu Jiu woke up, a faint light of dawn was breaking outside the window, the first rays of sunlight quietly piercing through the clouds.
She groggily opened her eyes, her vision still a bit blurry, but she could make out the weak light. Instinctively, she reached for her phone resting on the pillow. Her finger brushed against the screen, and with a gentle swipe, it lit up, clearly displaying the time: five o'clock in the morning.
Had she really slept for so long?
Chi Mu Jiu couldn't help but murmur to herself. Recalling how she had spent the day before with someone from morning until noon made her cheeks flush instantly.
Moreover, it was undeniable that after such intense activity and ample rest, the dizziness she had felt earlier seemed to have vanished completely. Yet, certain parts of her body still tingled with an unusual sensation.
She lazily turned over in bed, finding the other side empty. A glance around confirmed that Du Heng Yan was not in the room. Knowing he must have gone out for some reason, Chi Mu Jiu thought little of it and turned back to sleep.
At half past five in the morning, outside the luxurious hospital room, loyal confidants stood guard, creating a solemn atmosphere. Inside the room, Ye Qi and Du Heng Yan sat facing each other.
After days of careful recuperation, Ye Qi's injuries had healed well, and color had returned to his face.
"Boss, everything has been handled as you instructed," he said seriously. "The situation regarding this mission is complex. I've made contact with our superiors; our people are already in place. If you need anything, just let me know."
Ye Qi's expression was grave. Upon learning that Du Heng Yan would personally attend a meeting with the underground gambling syndicate, he felt a surge of concern.
Though he held a military identity and had accompanied Du Heng Yan on various missions over the years, their relationship transcended mere hierarchy; Ye Qi regarded Du Heng Yan as a brother. Without Du Heng Yan's protection within the underground forces, many missions would become increasingly perilous.
"You don't need to worry too much," Du Hengyan said, glancing at Ye Qi and immediately sensing his thoughts. No matter how troubled he felt, this time he wouldn't let Ye Qi go alone; the gambling area couldn't afford to lose someone like him.
The title "Seventh Master" was both a tease and a sign of respect among brothers.
Ye Qi nodded. Deep down, he knew that given his current recovery, even if he went, there was a chance he might become a burden if something unexpected happened. Yet, his worries couldn't completely dissipate.
"I heard that your little girlfriend is coming along for this international operation?" Du Hengyan raised an eyebrow, curiosity flickering in his eyes as he tried to read something else from Ye Qi's expression.
As expected, Ye Qi's demeanor shifted to one of greater unease. His brows furrowed tightly, worry etched across his face. "She applied for the transfer order herself."
Ye Qi felt helpless; even though he wished a thousand times that Le Xinyuan wouldn't have to wade through this murky water, the girl was simply too stubborn.
"For you?" Du Hengyan threw out another question.
Ye Qi nodded again.
"Well then, I asked your superior to bring her in," Du Hengyan said casually.
Ye Qi's resolute gaze widened in surprise at those words.
"If you want to thank me, just manage the household well while I'm away," Du Hengyan said with a serious tone filled with trust.
"Yes! Boss!"
When Du Hengyan returned home from the hospital, he found a beautiful woman sleeping soundly on the bed.
Her delicate figure curled up quietly, as if immersed in a sweet dream.
Dappled morning light filtered through the gaps in the curtains, cascading like golden threads onto her snow-white, smooth, and delicate skin, perfectly illuminating the marks on her body—some deep, some shallow—that resembled blooming flowers.
These marks, like mysterious totems, exuded an irresistible allure, enhancing the breathtaking beauty of her form with an added touch of seduction.
As if sensing a heated gaze upon her, the sleeping beauty's long eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Du Heng frowned at the sight of her dark brows twitching, as if she were about to awaken. His heart tightened, and he quickly averted his gaze, fearful of disturbing her.
However, just as he turned to step into the bathroom, he heard a soft and tender call:
