It was mealtime, yet the restaurant in the casino hotel felt unusually desolate, with only a few patrons scattered about.
After ordering some familiar dishes, the two found a window-side table to sit down. Outside, the rain poured heavily, accompanied by the rumbling of thunder that sounded like war drums. Raindrops splattered against the large floor-to-ceiling windows, forming streams that trickled down.
In the distance over the sea, the sky was a dark mass, creating an oppressive atmosphere.
"Fortunately, we arrived quickly; otherwise, we would definitely be stuck out at sea in this terrible weather," said Chi Mu Jiu, glancing at Du Heng Yan across from her, only to find him staring out at the rain as well.
His sword-like brows arched slightly, exuding an air of heroism akin to a sword being drawn from its sheath. His deep and mysterious eyes were hard to read, and his impeccably tailored suit added to his imposing presence. Chi Mu Jiu couldn't help but think to herself that this man was simply ruggedly handsome.
"By the way, do you know Ling Yun?" she suddenly asked.
"Yes," Du Heng Yan replied with a gentle nod. He then pushed the dishes that had just been served closer to her and said warmly, "This should be good; give it a try."
As he spoke, he picked up a piece of fish and placed it in Chi Mu Jiu's bowl.
"Madam is quite perceptive; you noticed that?" Du Heng Yan said with a faint smile at the corners of his mouth.
"Not really. But how could someone as formidable as Boss Du in the underworld possibly show favor to a stranger?" Chi Mu Jiu countered as she placed a piece of meat into his bowl.
Du Heng Yan chuckled softly, his eyes filled with affection. "Let’s eat first; I’ll explain everything slowly."
"Okay," Chi Mu Jiu nodded obediently.
Seeing her like this made Du Heng Yan's smile widen even more.
Ling Yun was an assassin from the black gambling world; years ago, he had crossed paths with her once.
Du Hengyan spoke slowly.
"What?!"
Upon hearing those two words, Chi Mu Jiu paused with her chopsticks, astonished as she asked, "Kill you?!"
"Simply put, yes, but you’ve seen the outcome." Du Hengyan raised an eyebrow, a proud smirk on his face.
If the top female assassin couldn't kill someone, then wasn't that Du Hengyan ruining her reputation?
Chi Mu Jiu understood that there was more to this than what Du Hengyan had casually mentioned. She knew his experiences were undoubtedly filled with countless twists and dangers; behind every seemingly nonchalant remark lay a heart-stopping story. As an assassin in the underground gambling world, Ling Yun's encounters with Du Hengyan could not have been as simple as he claimed.
Since it was all in the past, she felt no need to pry further; knowing the result was enough. After saying this, both of them tacitly fell silent. After all, in this place, the attention on Du Hengyan and Chi Mu Jiu was overwhelming, and it was inevitable that there were ears listening in.
Du Hengyan was a figure in the underworld who struck fear into many hearts; every move he made attracted scrutiny. Chi Mu Jiu, despite wearing a mask, exuded an air of mystery that made people curious about her identity. In such circumstances, maintaining silence was a wise choice—it helped avoid unnecessary trouble and kept others guessing about their true nature.
Just as they were finishing their meal, a group of people entered through the restaurant door.
"They're here," Du Hengyan said lightly, his gaze resting on Chi Mu Jiu with warmth and concern, as if to reassure her that there was no need to be nervous.
