Du Hengyan was annoyed by the noise.
The beautiful person sleeping on the bed murmured in a daze.
Not only had it rained all night, but now, early in the morning, it felt like there were voices everywhere outside.
From the sounds, it was clear that some foul-mouthed men were arguing, their language laced with profanity.
Wasn't it said that only she and Du Hengyan lived on this floor? Why was it so noisy outside?
It sounded like someone was even fighting.
Du Hengyan muttered in agreement, expressing his discontent with the uncomfortable living conditions and the poor soundproofing of the place.
"Don't be upset, my dear. I'll have someone check it out."
He immediately sat up beside her, gently stroking her back while softly comforting her.
"Forget it."
Zhi Mu Jiu turned over and nestled into Du Hengyan's embrace.
What kind of place was this? A black gambling den, naturally filled with various underworld forces gathering here; causing a ruckus was nothing unusual.
Being awakened was one thing; in a place like this, it was better to avoid trouble if possible. Besides, Du Hengyan's identity was already special; any additional complications could be detrimental to him.
Thinking this way, she pressed closer into his arms.
"Du Hengyan, you smell so good."
"There's something even better; would you like to try more, my lady?"
"You’re being quite improper early in the morning."
"I’m already serious enough, my lady. There’s even more seriousness; do you want to take a look?"
Although the rain had just stopped, the sky remained overcast, and the air was filled with dampness.
Dressed impeccably, Du Hengyan stood tall, his handsome face marked by a cold demeanor, and his deep-set eyes maintained their usual indifference. On the other hand, Chi Mu Jiu wore an elegant long dress that accentuated her grace.
As the two stepped out of the hotel elevator, they found Ling Yun waiting for them in the lobby for quite some time.
"Boss Du, Miss, please follow me. I will be in charge of your itinerary for the gambling event," Ling Yun said.
Du Hengyan and Chi Mu Jiu exchanged a quick glance, silently understanding each other. They both knew that the founders behind this underground gambling ring were likely uneasy about Du Hengyan's presence, which was why Ling Yun had come personally to escort them.
To put it nicely, it was called showing the highest respect, but in reality, everyone understood it was merely surveillance. After all, in this world filled with intricate interests and complex relationships, various factions were constantly suspicious and wary of one another.
"Then we’ll trouble Miss Ling. Please lead the way," Chi Mu Jiu replied. Her beautiful eyes sparkled beneath her dark red mask, as if hiding a galaxy of stars—mysterious yet captivating. Her tone was neither servile nor arrogant; it exuded a dignified elegance paired with innate confidence.
Ling Yun regarded this woman before her with a sense of admiration. It was impressive how she maintained such composure in such a complicated environment.
As they walked through the venue, those who caught sight of Du Hengyan seemed to recoil as if he were a force of nature to be avoided at all costs. Yet even so, faint whispers could be heard.
"Look, it's really Boss Du!" one person said in a hushed tone, awe evident in their voice.
"Oh wow, the living Yama has truly arrived," another chimed in.
"You should have seen what happened yesterday; even Sister Ling almost couldn't persuade Boss Du to show up," someone recalled with lingering trepidation.
"Right! Did you see that masked woman next to Boss Du? He certainly treasures her!" another pointed out, gesturing towards Chi Mu Jiu.
