Before entering, Ling Yun had already informed Chi Mu Jiu in detail about the identities of the other four people at the gambling table. The two at the far ends were the heads of an international human trafficking organization, their faces fierce and menacing, with a deep-seated cruelty and cunning glint in their eyes. The other two were leaders of a scam and loan sharking operation; although they wore insincere smiles, there was an unsettling feeling of deceit lurking beneath.
In the center sat Ke, the most notorious drug lord, feared by all who heard his name. While the others may not have matched Ke's status, their presence alone was enough to make anyone else wary. Each of them exuded an aura of danger, as if a bloody conflict could erupt at any moment.
With all the guests present, according to the rules of the gambling event, they were asked to place their bets. Mobasson quietly inquired about the intentions of the powerful figures around him. His voice trembled slightly, revealing his inner tension. He found himself in a truly perilous situation; these individuals were far more intimidating than having a gun pointed at his head.
Indeed, behind each of them stood their own formidable associates, each one looking equally menacing and aggressive. A mere flick of a finger from any one of them could turn this place into a bloodbath.
The air was thick with tension, like a taut string ready to snap at any moment. Mobasson hunched over, feeling like a small boat caught in a storm, ready to be swallowed by the surging waves.
In stark contrast stood Ling Yun, confidently positioned behind Chi Mu Jiu. Her aura intertwined elegantly with that of the masked beauty beside her. The intent of this alliance was unmistakable.
Mobasson understood all too well. They were all prominent figures in the underworld, and according to the rules of this illicit gambling event, it was customary for each round to have its own wager—he would go first.
It was Tan Lin, the head of the scam organization on the far left, who spoke up. He slightly raised his chin, his eyes gleaming with pride and confidence. "I’ll bet one hundred million and add two parks from my northern district. Let’s consider this round as warming up."
As Tan Lin placed his bet of one hundred million, Mobasson felt compelled to follow suit. "If Tan Lin is betting that much, then I’ll match it and add another park as my extra wager."
Lelis spoke next. He was also a con artist, managing countless operations in the area alongside Tanlin's subordinates. His initial bet was impressive; they seemed unreserved in this gamble, eager to showcase their strength and bravado.
"Since I have no substantial assets with Ai, just abundant cash and connections, why not wager a piece of territory? We can continue to expand our business," he suggested.
The older man on the right chimed in, his accent carrying a hint of everyday life that made listeners furrow their brows slightly. "I’m in the same boat as Chi Sang."
Ai and Chi Sang's businesses were quite similar—one involved scams while the other dealt in illegal loans.
With all four having placed their bets, Ke lit a cigarette and directed his gaze toward Du Hengyan. His eyes seemed to carry a mix of provocation and anticipation, leaving others puzzled.
"One billion, one island," he stated.
Ke's tone was no longer as arrogant as before; it now sounded resolute.
"What?!" The others were clearly taken aback. Such a large stake?! In the drug trade, who wouldn’t want a piece of the pie? To lay such a blatant wager on the table—who wouldn’t be tempted?
"One billion, one-third of the gambling territory," Du Hengyan added, causing the others to shift uneasily.
They had thought Ke's bet was shocking enough, but they hadn’t anticipated this.
"And another billion for one-third of the arms trade," Du Hengyan continued without even raising an eyebrow.
