In the boardroom, the central air conditioning was set to a moderate temperature, yet everyone present was sweating profusely.
"Withdraw your shares! We’re all pulling out!"
"Mu Jiu, you’re just a little girl with no social experience. We can’t stop you from taking on this mess!"
"As long as we get our money back! If there’s anyone to blame, it’s your family for being so naive, raising a wolf in sheep’s clothing and dragging us down with them!"
"Exactly! Withdraw your shares; we want our money back!"
The atmosphere had turned hostile. Chi Mu Jiu narrowed her eyes, remaining silent and unresponsive.
Ning Chen and Jin Su exchanged glances, preparing to take action, but Chi Mu Jiu gently waved her hand. Though reluctant, they immediately stepped back.
Once they received their money and signed the transfer agreement, they could leave without further ado. In the past, she might have been infuriated by their behavior and lashed out at them, but now it seemed unnecessary.
Having seen her family’s true nature, what did their actions matter? Instead of feeling angry, she found herself somewhat relieved. Relieved that the Chi family she had supported had not been completely controlled by these people.
After the last shareholder completed the transfer agreement, only Chi Mu Jiu and her two companions remained in the vast conference room.
"Madam, what should we do next?" Ning Chen asked. Initially, he thought his wife would be unable to tolerate this insult, but it seemed he had overestimated her sensitivity.
"Have someone pull up the company’s financial statements for me," she instructed. With the shares fully acquired, the next step was to thoroughly investigate the company’s finances and see where all that money had ended up.
"Miss, here are all the recent accounts for the company."
The Finance Minister appeared to be a young girl, barely able to lift her head as she spoke.
Chi Mu Jiu sighed softly; even if the Chi family had not faced this calamity, bankruptcy seemed imminent. She wondered how her relatives had managed things before. Could it be that they had simply turned a blind eye, allowing the group's income to fall into the hands of those treacherous old-timers?
After glancing through the company's annual financial reports from recent years, Chi Mu Jiu understood. The group had been operating at a loss for several years now; corruption was not a recent development. No wonder her relatives were so eager to arrange a business marriage for her and Chi Qi Yun. Only through such alliances could they hope to recover from the financial deficits accumulated over the years.
What a clever calculation, Chi Mu Jiu scoffed. "Bring me the reports on the collaboration with the Ye family."
She sat expressionlessly in the boss's chair, her voice cold and detached.
"Yes, Miss." The young girl standing before Chi Mu Jiu trembled nervously, clutching a thick stack of documents in her hands.
This girl looked demure, wearing heavy glasses that made her seem like a bookworm. She carefully placed the new stack of documents on the desk beside Chi Mu Jiu, not daring to look up at her.
"Are you the Finance Minister?" Chi Mu Jiu couldn't help but furrow her brow. With such demeanor, she seemed more like an intern.
"Y-yes, the previous minister and the finance department have already left, so I’m just acting in their stead," the girl replied nervously, her voice growing softer until it was nearly inaudible.
"How many people are still employed in the company?"
