Outside the Su residence, which usually exuded a sense of tranquility, several luxury cars were parked in an imposing manner.
What was going on? Old Master Su had no scheduled guests!
This scene didn’t look like a friendly visit; it felt more like a summons for accountability. The speaker's gaze was fixed on the group of people stepping out of the cars, and his attention was particularly drawn to Chi Mu Jiu, who emerged from the front car surrounded by others.
Quickly, go inform the Young Master and the Old Master! The Chi family is here! The eldest daughter of the Chi family has arrived!
“Madam, we have arrived.”
At noon, the sun was hidden behind a blanket of gray clouds, casting a gloomy atmosphere with occasional raindrops falling.
It’s cold; you should put on your coat.
Jin Su respectfully presented a light purple coat to her.
Taking the coat, Chi Mu Jiu thanked him softly. “You come in with me; let the brothers bring in the things and wait at the door. There are too many people; we should proceed with caution.”
As they entered the Su family’s main gate, childhood memories unexpectedly flooded back. Back then, her mother often visited Madam Su for tea while she and Su Si Yi would swing in the courtyard.
“Miss Chi, please.”
The butler's expression was kind yet respectful.
The Su family's courtyard was vast, and even after all these years, Chi Mu Jiu still felt its grandeur.
“Thank you, Uncle Wan.”
She addressed him just as she had in her childhood.
Butler Wan nodded with evident satisfaction. “Miss, I have already informed the Young Master and the Old Master; please come in!”
Behind her, a dozen or so brothers carried various gifts into the Su family courtyard before retreating outside to wait.
As soon as she stepped into the main hall of the courtyard, a rich aroma of books enveloped her. It was no surprise, considering that the Su family was in the business of antiques and cultural artifacts, setting them apart from other places. Such an atmosphere was hard to come by in the bustling commercial district.
"Mu Jiu, oh my, it’s been so long! I didn’t expect you to have grown up so much!" A richly dressed woman approached her with a warm smile. This was none other than Madam Su, who had a close relationship with her mother.
"Hello, Aunt Lin," Chi Mu Jiu greeted politely. Then she added courteously, "I hope my uninvited visit isn’t too much trouble for you."
Her tone carried a hint of respect, a touch of politeness, and a dash of unfamiliarity. Madam Su was astute; she immediately understood Chi Mu Jiu's intentions and swallowed the words she had initially wanted to say.
At the far end of the main hall, in the tea room, sat Su Song, the head of the Su family. The room was filled with a faint scent of tea, and steaming cups had already been prepared for guests.
Chi Mu Jiu glanced back at Jin Su, signaling him to wait where he was, while she gracefully made her way toward the tea room.
"Uncle Su, it’s been a while," she said without taking a seat first.
Su Song merely smiled, his wrinkled face calm yet imbued with an unusual depth. Noticing that he remained silent, Chi Mu Jiu understood his meaning.
"Uncle Su, since you’re not speaking, I’ll get straight to the point."
Upon hearing this, Jin Su promptly stepped forward to hand over a document to Chi Mu Jiu before retreating back outside the tea room.
Su Song’s gaze flickered over the words on the document, causing his hand holding the teacup to tremble slightly.
"I’ve come with sincerity; please consider it," Chi Mu Jiu said as she placed the document prominently on the solid wood tea table.
The tea was fragrant, and the contents of the document were even more enticing. Su Song hesitated for a moment before finally picking up the document to take a look.
After a brief pause, Su Song finally spoke up. "The examples in your document are indeed very appealing. If this were the old Chi family, I might have considered it, but now..."
