In the rain, the Ye family's car had arrived without anyone noticing.
Ye Jue gestured for his two subordinates to welcome Chi Mu Jiu as she got out of the car.
Lu Jin Zhi heard this and turned to glance at Ye Jue, who was not far away.
After a moment, Lu Jin Zhi spoke up, "Mr. Ye has arrived at just the right time. However, making a lady wait is hardly gentlemanly."
"I am friends with Miss Chi, so I wouldn't be so formal," Ye Jue replied, his peach blossom eyes behind gold-rimmed glasses sparkling with a smile, like a warm spring breeze.
"So, are they quarreling?"
Chi Mu Jiu sensed an underlying tension between the two.
"Mr. Ye, if we don't go in soon, we'll be late."
She had already guessed Lu Jin Zhi's purpose for coming to the Lei family and suspected it needed confirmation. Only by entering the banquet would all answers come to light.
As soon as she finished speaking, Chi Mu Jiu disregarded whatever further conversation the two might have and walked directly toward the entrance of the Lei family mansion after getting out of the car.
Lu Jin Zhi and Ye Jue exchanged a glance before following closely behind her.
At the entrance, the bodyguard positioned himself to block Chi Mu Jiu's path, but one of the leading men stepped forward first.
"Miss, please."
Chi Mu Jiu nodded and stepped through the door.
The bodyguard's lack of obstruction only confirmed her suspicions.
Lu Jin Zhi and the Lu family had deep connections.
The two people behind moved smoothly and quickly caught up with Chi Mu Jiu. Although the Lei family was relatively weaker than the Yang family, their grand residence in this spacious flat was impressive. Servants in the side hall were busy preparing dishes for the banquet, while in the main hall, elegantly dressed guests were seated around a large red wooden table, engaged in lively conversation.
This stark contrast reminded Chi Mu Jiu of the open layout at the black gambling den. The main hall had both unfamiliar faces and some familiar ones. Su Si Yi and Yang Ming Ze sat on the right side, while the elders of the two prominent families occupied the left side. Interestingly, Lei Ji and his father were seated just beside the main position. From this seating arrangement, it was clear that the important figures of the evening would not be from the Lei family.
The three of them entered the main hall. Lei Ji and his father, who had previously displayed an air of arrogance, immediately stood up upon their arrival. "Young Master Lu, you have arrived," echoed through the hall, drawing everyone's attention to Lu Jin Zhi.
Young Master Lu? When did a member of the Lu family appear in town? The two old men from the Yang and Su families already understood what was happening. Chi Mu Jiu exchanged a knowing glance with Ye Jue.
Lu Jin Zhi remained silent as he walked past everyone and took a seat on a tea chair at the edge of the main hall.

Lei Ji and Old Master Lei suddenly felt embarrassed but dared not show their displeasure. The atmosphere became somewhat awkward.
