The rain fell in a gentle drizzle, weaving a veil of misty mystery over the entire city. A group of people, umbrellas in hand, slowly approached a man at the center. His face was unfamiliar, but upon closer inspection, one could see a few similarities with Lu Jinzhi.
It seemed I had arrived just in time!
The man walked into the main hall with a hearty laugh, his voice booming and confident. As he passed by Lu Jinzhi, he didn’t even lift his eyelids, seemingly indifferent to this family member. In front of everyone, he appeared at ease and casually took the seat of honor at the banquet.
The heads of various families exchanged glances, their eyes revealing confusion and wariness. Clearly, the prominent figure at this so-called Hongmen Banquet was not Lu Jinzhi but this man who appeared to be nearly forty.
Chi Mu Jiu quietly assessed him. Judging by his age, if he were Lu Jinzhi's father, he would be too young; if he were an older brother, he would seem a bit too old.
At that moment, Ye Jue from the Ye family, currently the most powerful figure in the city, had yet to speak. Despite the bewildered expressions on everyone’s faces, no one dared to be the first to inquire.
Surely everyone had guessed from the moment they entered that today’s banquet was held under the name of the Lei family.
The man scanned the crowd with his gaze. The older gentlemen present exchanged furtive looks as if speculating about what Lu Yin would do next.
"I am Lu Yin, heir of the Lu Group. Recently, there have been some changes in the city’s business landscape. You all are titans of commerce; I need not elaborate on the benefits involved!" Lu Yin's voice was steady and powerful, echoing through the hall.
As soon as these words were spoken, they sparked quite a commotion. The first to react were those older individuals; they frowned and a hint of displeasure flickered in their eyes as they shouted at Lu Yin.
"I was wondering how an inconspicuous family like the Lei family could suddenly wield such power and wealth to undermine the Yang family’s contracts. So it turns out it’s you youngsters playing tricks behind the scenes! Your calculations are quite clever!"
"Where is your elder? Why isn’t he here? Leaving you, a mere brat, to flaunt your authority!" The elders from the Yang family were even more irritable.
Lu Yin remained calm despite the uproar around him. He smiled slightly and continued, "I have gathered everyone here today to discuss business. The Lu family intends to establish a presence in the city, and not just any presence—we aim to control half of the commercial resources."
The room erupted in chaos at his words.
"What did you say? The Lu family wants to establish a foothold in the city? What does that have to do with us? If you want commercial resources, it's all about capability!"
Yang Mingze's anger was palpable. The Lu family's greed was beyond reproach.
Su Siyu quickly chimed in, echoing Yang's sentiments.
Lu Yin paid no mind to their opinions; his primary purpose today was to meet with the city's leading figure, Ye Jue. "Mr. Ye, do you share this view?"
Ye Jue remained silent, but the disdain on his face spoke volumes about his stance.
The atmosphere in the hall grew tense and awkward, as if it could ignite at any moment. "It seems Mr. Ye and I do not see eye to eye. That's fine," Lu Yin said, pausing for effect. His subordinates promptly presented well-prepared documents and contracts to everyone at the table.
The words "Financing Business Plan" stood out prominently on the cover of the document.
What does this mean? Financing?
Yang Mingze was the first to open the plan in front of him, but as he read further, his expression darkened with each passing moment.
"Are you crazy? You want us five families to finance everything just for the Lu family? In this day and age, anyone can be a CEO? How presumptuous can you be? Don’t you worry about what people will say when they hear this?"
Yang Mingze slammed the documents down onto the table in frustration.
Hearing this, the others began to examine the proposal as well.
