They naturally recognized the car; it was their young lady returning home. Beside her was undoubtedly the son-in-law.
Last night, in the middle of the night, someone had knocked on the door of the Shi family. A group of people had come, bringing a large pile of gifts and cash, all addressed to Shi Feng.
"Young lady, you’re back! We’ve prepared a small family banquet at home," someone greeted.
Shi Mu Jiu was somewhat surprised. A small family banquet? What did that mean? Did her father know she was coming back?
She turned to look at Du Heng Yan, but he only smiled without saying a word.
Upon entering the main hall, Shi Feng and Ji Yu Yan were sitting on the sofa, looking somewhat awkward.
"Mu Jiu, you’re back," Ji Yu Yan said first with a smile.
She responded with a soft "mm," her gaze shifting to her father. Although his silver hair had increased significantly, he seemed to be in better spirits than before.
"Mu Jiu, this is—"
Her father truly had a poor memory. "Isn’t this the son-in-law you once looked down upon?" Shi Mu Jiu's tone was somewhat cold, yet she tightly linked her arm with Du Heng Yan's, presenting an affectionate image.
Shi Feng felt a bit embarrassed; he couldn’t possibly be unaware of what had happened with the Lei family yesterday. His daughter had initially sought out an international business mogul who kept a low profile. It was his fault for being blinded by his own biases, only wanting to marry Shi Mu Jiu off to heirs from other families in the city.
He realized he had been narrow-minded and limited in his perspective.
Seeing the awkward and helpless expression on Shi Feng's face brought great satisfaction to Shi Mu Jiu.
"I'm here today to tell you that we’re married; we just got our certificate."
"This house belongs to you, but I won’t hand over control of the group. The old residence is part of the Shi family’s legacy; taking over the group is what I truly desire."
Du Heng turned his head to look at his wife, the tenderness in his eyes almost overflowing. He didn’t need to say anything else; in this household, Chi Mu Jiu was the true leader.
Just then, the atmosphere, which had been somewhat awkward, was interrupted by the arrival of a stunning woman descending the stairs, her figure graceful and elegant. Following her was Chi Qi Yun.
As Chi Mu Jiu's puzzled gaze fell on the speaking woman, a storm of thoughts surged through her mind.
What was going on here?! How could Ling Yun be at the Chi family’s residence? And why was she appearing alongside Chi Qi Yun?
No way!
“Miss Ling, what brings you here?”
Chi Mu Jiu immediately recalled that this enchanting beauty was a top assassin. Her presence at the Chi family could not mean anything good.
“Miss Chi, please don’t misunderstand. I’m just here as a guest,” Ling Yun replied with a smile, her steps light and graceful. Beside her, Chi Qi Yun remained silent, but the sharpness that usually marked her expression when facing Chi Mu Jiu had softened considerably.
“Do you two know each other?”
“I have some business dealings with Boss Du,” Ling Yun said, her charming eyes narrowing into a playful smile. “And as for you, Master Chi, your son-in-law is quite impressive.”
“Come on now, don’t just stand there. You can’t let me, a guest, invite the host to sit down for dinner, can you?”
The tension that had lingered in the air seemed to dissipate with Ling Yun’s words.
Indeed, what could be more important than sharing a meal? It was not every day that one returned home, and with such esteemed guests present, it would be unreasonable not to eat before leaving!
Hearing this, Chi Feng set aside his reservations and invited both Du Heng and Chi Mu Jiu to take their seats. After all, it was their first time having guests in their home; it would be rather unfair to let Du Heng leave without sharing a meal.
Chi Mu Jiu looked at him, her expression somewhat conflicted.
