Seeing the corners of his lips curve upward, Chi Mu Jiu wore a proud and charming expression.
"Let’s have a round."
"We're almost home; please don’t fall asleep again, my lady."
"I know!"
She opened their marriage certificate, gazing at the names and the happy photo of the two of them, momentarily lost in thought.
She really was married to Du Heng Yan.
What had started as a drunken joke during their first meeting had turned into reality.
(So this tells us that drinking can lead to unexpected consequences.)
As soon as the car entered the villa area, the lookout brothers had already spread the news to those waiting at home.
"Hurry, hurry! The boss and his lady have arrived; we can serve the dishes now!"
Just as they got out of the car, the brothers surrounded them.
"Boss, lady, happy wedding!"
The dishes prepared by the brothers were beautifully arranged, ready to welcome them.
Du Heng Yan and Chi Mu Jiu exchanged glances.
"It seems my lady will have to wait until tonight to taste my cooking."
Chi Mu Jiu felt a bit shy.
With so many brothers bustling around for her and Du Heng Yan, it would be rude not to show her appreciation. Besides, when Du Heng Yan wasn’t by her side, it was these brothers who had been looking out for her, both intentionally and unintentionally.
She was just feeling hungry.
With a smile, she said, "I’m starving."
Upon hearing this, everyone was even more delighted.
Since the lady had spoken up, the boss would surely not refuse; they would get to see more of the couple’s affectionate moments.
(They loved seeing such displays of love; it was delicious and they wanted more.)
Surrounded by a crowd, they entered the villa. It wasn't the one belonging to Chi Mu Jiu, but rather another one next door. The surrounding empty villas had all been purchased as well. Chi Mu Jiu felt as if this place resembled the gambling district villa that Du Heng Yan owned in another country.
Even before stepping inside, the aroma of food wafted through the air, and at the entrance stood several brothers in aprons washing vegetables. The scene was harmonious and warm.
"Du Heng Yan, are your brothers all equally skilled in both the kitchen and the parlor?"
On the table lay a dozen dishes of Sichuan cuisine, each vibrant and fragrant. They had always cooked for themselves in that country, never opting for foreign cuisine. Hadn't his wife tasted their cooking before?
Hmm?
Hearing Du Heng Yan mention it, Chi Mu Jiu recalled the Chinese dishes she had eaten in a hotel room in that country. Could it be that they were the ones who cooked it?
In her shock, Chi Mu Jiu found herself half-pushed and half-pulled to sit at the dining table.
"Whether their skills have improved is something you, Madam, and the boss will have to judge," Ning Chen said as he brought out freshly stir-fried dishes to the table.
Chi Mu Jiu glanced back and noticed a petite woman helping out in the kitchen.
"Ning Chen, you and Xiao Xiao?"
Ning Chen looked a bit embarrassed, placing down a plate before turning back into the kitchen.
Everything was unspoken; they were all action-oriented!
"Madam, if you're hungry, go ahead and try this. It's spicy just as you like," Du Heng Yan said gently, picking up a slice of meat and bringing it to her lips.
The meat was thinly sliced, and Chi Mu Jiu could smell its rich aroma. Yet for some reason, she felt an inexplicable flutter of anxiety within her. Despite this, she made an effort to suppress her discomfort, not wanting to ruin everyone’s good mood.
Just as her lips were about to touch the piece of meat on the chopsticks, a wave of intense nausea surged up, overwhelming her.
Chi Mu Jiu tightly covered her mouth, her brows furrowed in distress as her stomach churned violently. Tears uncontrollably welled up in her eyes.
Du Heng, seeing this, quickly set down his chopsticks and gently rubbed her back, trying to ease her discomfort. His tightly knit brows revealed his concern and worry.
The other brothers looked on in shock, momentarily at a loss for words.
"Madam? Are you alright?!"
"No way! Is the food we made really that bad?"
"She only took a small bite and... threw up?!"
