Baby
In a daze, Chi Mu Jiu heard Du Cheng Yan's soft voice beside her. She frowned slightly and let out a hum through her nose to show she was listening. Just moments ago, the informant had reported that there was a shipment to be collected at an underground arms trading point.
Du Cheng Yan leaned down and placed a gentle kiss on her slightly furrowed brow. "I need to take care of this. I should be back by the time you wake up."
"No."
The little beauty grasped his hand, forcing herself to stay awake, looking at him with a hint of grievance in her sleepy eyes.
Du Cheng Yan's heart softened instantly. "Then I'll take my baby with me."
"Carry me."
Having just wrapped up the trivial matters of the Chi family, she had hoped to catch up on some sleep, but now Du Cheng Yan had to go on a mission again. Since she was pregnant with two little ones, her early pregnancy symptoms were more pronounced than those of an average expectant mother. She felt increasingly fatigued and drowsy, yet despite that, all she wanted was to cling to Du Cheng Yan.
He gently lifted her from the bed, holding her securely in his arms. "Madam has been sleeping more and more lately. If you feel any discomfort, you must tell me."
"Mm."
Chi Mu Jiu nodded, resting her little head on his broad shoulder as she drifted toward sleep.
"Baby," he called softly. "Do you have any instructions for me?"
"No, I just wanted to call you."
"You've been getting more and more clingy lately."
"Walk steadily; don’t jostle me while I’m sleeping."
She pouted and hummed softly. "I guarantee it will be steady; just sleep a little longer. This task will take some time."
Du Chengyan held the beauty in his arms and, as he passed through the living room, casually grabbed the pink blanket from the sofa before stepping outside.
Hearing her even breathing, Du Chengyan slowed his pace considerably.
"Boss! Madam!"
The brothers outside the villa area had all geared up, but when they saw their boss carrying his wife out, their greetings abruptly ceased.
Du Chengyan gave a glance to the person in his arms, and the brothers understood, climbing into the cars in unison.
Inside the car, he carefully cradled her in his embrace.
Chi Mu Jiu could feel his burning gaze on her, but she was simply too tired to respond.
"Boss, we’ve arrived."
The driver spoke in a very soft tone.
"Mm, keep the engine running."
Du Chengyan adjusted her into a more comfortable position against the back seat and draped the small blanket over her slightly protruding belly.
He stepped out of the car and instructed, "Leave two people here to watch over Madam. Don’t disturb her while she sleeps."
After giving his orders, Du Chengyan entered the trading venue with her.
About twenty minutes later, a new group of people arrived at the trading venue. The dozen or so newcomers saw so many luxury cars parked outside and assumed that some wealthy individual had come to the venue for business.
Laughter erupted among a group of men outside.
"What are you doing? If there's nothing going on, hurry up and leave!"
The commotion caught the attention of Du Chengyan's two subordinates stationed by Chi Mu Jiu's car, prompting them to inquire about the situation.
"Which bodyguards are left?"
The men continued to laugh heartily.
