One is ultimately bound by the unattainable.
"Si Yi, why haven't you thought about confessing to my sister after all this time you've spent by her side?" Chi Qiyun blinked her eyes, looking at Su Si Yi with curiosity.
The summer sunlight pierced through the shaded path, revealing Su Si Yi's inner thoughts. His face turned slightly red, and his ears flushed as well.
He felt a bit awkward at Chi Qiyun's words, wanting to say something but hesitating, the rest of his thoughts seemingly stuck in his throat, unable to be voiced.
"Do you have to confess if you like someone?"
"I haven't even said anything yet, and you're already getting shy. My sister doesn't like boys like you," Chi Qiyun said deliberately.
However, her words made Su Si Yi's heart sink. He took it seriously.
"Si Yi, if you don't confess soon, you might not get another chance!"
"What do you mean?" Su Si Yi raised his head at last upon hearing Chi Qiyun's words.
"My father has already chosen universities for both me and my sister. She specifically picked a university abroad," Chi Qiyun said nonchalantly.
In that moment, the flush on Su Si Yi's face transformed into panic and unease. Without waiting for Chi Qiyun to finish her sentence, he abruptly changed from his usual gentle demeanor and rushed toward the teaching building.
"I heard there's an exchange event with the neighboring college coming to our graduation ceremony."
"I heard too; it seems like they are all top students just like Su Si Yi."
The word "envy" had been repeated so often that it felt stale. Why is it that some people not only come from wealthy families but also excel academically?
The voices of the classmates discussing among themselves weren't too loud, but their envious glances still flicked toward Chi Mu Jiu.
"What are you looking at me for? Am I some kind of top student?" Chi Mu Jiu shot a glare at a few of her classmates.
She only came from a family with some money; her academic performance wasn't particularly impressive. As for the college application section, her father had already arranged for her and Chi Qi Yun to attend specific universities.
All she wanted was to escape. She specifically chose a school abroad, aiming to get as far away from home as possible, as far away as she could. The best scenario would be not having to see Chi Qi Yun and her stepmother at all.
"Are you jealous that you have someone like Su Si Yi tutoring you?"
"Chi Mu Jiu, does Su Si Yi have feelings for you?"
It was graduation season, the last day at school.
"No, you all are just being boring."
Chi Mu Jiu didn't want to engage in this topic. Su Si Yi had grown up alongside her; they had attended the same school from kindergarten until now, only later adding Chi Qi Yun into the mix.
She understood what these people were implying—children of the business circle ultimately couldn't escape the reality of arranged marriages. It wasn't just her; all the classmates present were in the same boat.
Finding someone they liked within a business marriage or being matched with someone who liked them was what they all secretly hoped for. But Chi Mu Jiu didn't think that way; the business world wasn't where her heart lay, and neither was Su Si Yi.
Seeing that Chi Mu Jiu didn't want to talk, a few classmates took it as their own folly.
"Attention all third-year students! The graduation ceremony is about to begin; please gather in the auditorium," came the announcement from their teacher over the intercom.
The students chatted and laughed as they left the classroom and headed toward the auditorium.
"Mu... Mu Jiu."
Just as Chi Mu Jiu stepped out of the classroom, she nearly collided with a sweaty Su Si Yi coming from the opposite direction.
"What's wrong?"
Seeing him running out of breath, a hint of confusion flashed in her beautiful eyes.
"I just heard Qi Yun say that you chose a university abroad?"
After a moment's pause, Su Siyi finally spoke up.
"Yeah."
"Then why didn't you tell me?"
