If one were to pinpoint when feelings began to stir, Xiao Xiao only remembered the first time she met Ning Chen. At that time, she was still a workplace professional wearing thick-framed glasses.
Ning Chen stood across from her, his tall figure looming like a mountain, casting a shadow that nearly obscured half the sunlight. Even with Mu Jiu Jie and his close friends beside him, her eyes were solely drawn to Ning Chen. His lips were pressed into a firm line, and an aura radiated from him that made Xiao Xiao blush and shy away from meeting his gaze, as if his eyes held a burning intensity.
In that moment, her heart raced, and warmth spread across her cheeks, reaching her ears.

Noticing that she had been staring blankly ahead for quite some time, Ning Chen raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes.
Didn’t you say you wanted to come over to my place?
His tone carried a teasing lilt.
Xiao Xiao snapped back to reality just as the car pulled up in front of her home. Throughout the journey, she had been lost in her thoughts, images of Ning Chen flashing through her mind like scenes from a movie.
Recalling some past memories, Xiao Xiao couldn’t help but smile shyly, trying to mask her distraction.

Taking a deep breath, she opened the car door and stepped out.
The standalone apartment stood before her, its simple yet elegant exterior impressive. When they had bought this place together, it was still just the two of them choosing the location.
Ning Chen seemed unaware that she had prepared a room for him; after all this time, she hadn’t dared to address their relationship directly.
It’s a bit messy inside; please don’t mind it.
As she spoke, she opened the door, and the lights flickered on in response to their movement.
The living room sofa was cluttered with work documents scattered about like petals blown by the wind. Even the open wine cabinet was filled with various books—literary classics, professional texts, and some novels she enjoyed reading during her leisure time—making it resemble a small library more than a wine cabinet.
Ning Chen hadn’t visited Xiao Xiao’s home in quite a while. As he surveyed the surroundings, there was no trace of disdain in his expression.
Hmm, it’s tidier than the last time I came over—at least there aren’t any books piled up on the balcony.
A smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he made light of the situation.
"How can it be without a man at home?" This thought flashed through Ning Chen's mind.
Xiao Xiao knew he was teasing her; she just smiled and said nothing.
"Please, sit down. I'll make some coffee."
Xiao Xiao moved the documents on the sofa aside to make room for Ning Chen to sit, the papers rustling softly in her hands. She felt a bit flustered, worried that Ning Chen might think the place was too messy.
"Don't be so polite; we are old friends. You sit, and I'll just browse around, if that's alright?"
Ning Chen looked at her with a gentle smile in his eyes.
"Of course, no problem!"
Xiao Xiao sighed in relief inwardly; thankfully, the living room only looked cluttered due to the piled-up documents, while the study, bedroom, and bathroom were all quite tidy. As for why she didn’t work in the study, she couldn’t quite explain it—perhaps the living room made her feel more relaxed.
As Xiao Xiao turned to head towards the long counter where the coffee machine was placed, Ning Chen began to take in the decor of her home.
The decoration was simple, with well-chosen furniture and fixtures. The walls were a soft beige color, and the floor was polished marble tiles that gleamed with a gentle sheen. The chandelier in the living room had a unique design, resembling a blooming crystal flower that radiated warm light.
The door to a room on the second floor near the staircase was slightly ajar, allowing Ning Chen to see the layout inside from his angle.
A deep blue bed resembled a vast ocean, imparting a sense of tranquility and mystery; even the entrance carpet was of a matching color.
In an instant, it seemed like he realized something as he turned to look at Xiao Xiao, who was still preparing coffee.
"Xiao Xiao."
He called her softly, his voice laced with curiosity and surprise.
"Hmm? What is it?"
Xiao Xiao heard his gentle tone and looked up in confusion, pausing her movements with the coffee cup in hand.
"The room upstairs..."
