I stared at the message on my phone, a cold smile creeping onto my lips. Li Xudong thought he was fishing, unaware that I had already planted my eyes on the Dark Web.
"Capture him!" Li Xudong commanded.
As the men in black surged forward, I swiftly pressed the button on my remote. A piercing alarm suddenly echoed throughout the abandoned factory, followed by the blaring of police sirens.
"Police?" Li Xudong's face turned pale.
"No," I replied with a chilling smile, "just a recording. But it's enough to throw your men into chaos."
Taking advantage of the confusion, I quickly slipped into the secret passage I had scouted out beforehand. Behind me, I could hear Li Xudong's frantic roar: "Don't let him escape!"
Li Xudong wanted to recharge himself with the Life Power Bank, but little did he know, I had already swapped it out.
Navigating through the underground tunnel, I arrived directly at the back door of Sublimation Hospital. This was where the real battle would take place tonight.
The hospital corridor was empty, illuminated only by the dim glow of emergency lights. I donned the doctor’s white coat I had prepared in advance and confidently made my way toward the underground laboratory.
I had studied the surveillance blind spots and security patrol routes for an entire week. Every step I took now was part of my plan.
"Ding—" The elevator arrived at the third basement level.
A strange, sweet metallic scent filled the air. At the end of the corridor stood a locked security door. I pulled out the access card I had purchased from a hacker on the Dark Web and swiped it gently.
"Click."
Inside the laboratory, various instruments emitted a low, ominous hum. Through the glass, I witnessed a chilling scene—dozens of Cultivation Chambers lined up neatly, each containing a floating figure.
"Subject Number 007, Life Energy extraction progress at 80%," a mechanical voice announced.
I turned to see a frail figure strapped to a specially designed chair, countless tubes inserted into his body. His life force was visibly draining away at an alarming rate.
"So this is your trick?" I scoffed as I approached the control panel. "Experimenting on living people?"
I quickly connected to the virus program I had prepared earlier, and the experimental data began to erase at lightning speed. At the same time, I installed explosives on critical equipment.
Suddenly, an alarm blared.
"Warning! Intruder detected!"
"You really came," Li Xudong's voice echoed from behind me. "I knew you would take the bait."
I turned to find him blocking the door with four security guards, each wielding a stun baton.
"You think I would let you get away with this so easily?" Li Xudong sneered. "You have no idea what you've stumbled into."
"I know exactly what this is," I replied, reaching for the Life Power Bank in my pocket. "This is your Secret Laboratory, dedicated to researching Life Energy conversion."
"Oh? It seems you've done your homework," Li Xudong said, suddenly sporting a sinister grin. "But do you know what's most ironic? You are my perfect Experimental Subject."
A chill ran down my spine, and before I could react, the security guards lunged at me.
In the blink of an eye, I pulled out the Life Power Bank, tightly gripping the copper coins I had taken from the Taoist priest. A burst of blue energy erupted instantly, and two security guards fell to the ground in response.
I ignited my Life Energy once more.
Another guard collapsed.
But the last one’s electric baton was already closing in on my chest.
“Ah!” A sharp pain shot through me as I crashed heavily to the ground.
In that critical moment, I pressed the Detonator.
“Boom!” The deafening explosion plunged the laboratory into chaos.
Seizing the opportunity, I broke free, but Li Xudong's voice echoed in my ears: “Run, but you will never escape my grasp. For within you, I have long since injected my special mark…”
With wounds all over my body, I staggered out of Sublimation Hospital. In the night, Li Xudong's eerie laughter lingered in my ears.
What does it mean to be the perfect Experimental Subject? What have they injected into me?
A greater conspiracy seems to have only just begun…
