I shut my notebook and tucked the Life Detector into my pocket. With only 6% Life Energy left, I could manage to fight one more time.
At four in the morning, I stood at the back door of Sublimation Hospital. I changed into the cleaning uniform I had prepared in advance and pushed the cleaning cart slowly inside. The voice of an Underground Force member crackled through my earpiece: "The surveillance in Area A has been replaced with a looped feed. You have three minutes."
I navigated through the empty corridor and arrived at the elevator as planned. This old freight elevator was the most discreet passage to the underground laboratory. Li Xudong, you think you’re well-hidden, but little do you know, I’ve already uncovered your secrets.
Ding—The elevator stopped at the third basement level. Behind the iron door at the end of the corridor lay Li Xudong's Secret Laboratory. I retrieved my hacking equipment from the hidden compartment of the cleaning cart and skillfully bypassed the access control system.
Inside the laboratory, eerie blue lights flickered from various instruments. Unknown objects floated in petri dishes, and complex data rolled across screens on the walls. This was the source of all evil.
Suddenly, an alarm shattered the silence!
"You finally made it," Li Xudong's voice came from behind me. "I've been waiting for you."
I turned to see him standing at the doorway, casually toying with dozens of Life Power Banks.
"I don't need that anymore," Li Xudong sneered. "What's more important now is your Life Energy."
I calmly pressed the remote control hidden in my pocket. In an instant, the entire laboratory plunged into darkness.
"You!" Li Xudong exclaimed, a mix of shock and anger in his voice.
In the darkness, I quickly vaulted over a workbench and took down two security guards amidst the chaos. The mental map of the layout flashed in my mind as I navigated through the maze of instruments, guided by the faint glow of emergency lights.
"Catch him!" Li Xudong's roar echoed through the laboratory.
Bang! A bullet whizzed past my ear. I rolled on the ground and hid behind a row of tall incubators. The Life Detector began to vibrate wildly, its energy level dropping to 4%.
"Jiang Xiaodao, do you think you can escape?" Li Xudong's voice reverberated in the darkness. "I know every corner of this place like the back of my hand."
I pulled out the smoke bomb I had prepared earlier and threw it in the opposite direction. Thick smoke instantly filled the laboratory, and the guards began to cough in unison.
Now's my chance! I dashed toward the Main Console, my fingers flying over the keyboard. On the screen, all experimental data started to flicker wildly.
"Stop!" Li Xudong's voice was filled with fear. "You'll ruin everything!"
"That's exactly my intention." I sneered as I hit the enter key.
The alarm blared again, this time more piercing. "Warning: System data is being deleted, Experimental Sample is about to be destroyed."
Li Xudong lunged at the Main Console, but it was too late. All his meticulously collected data and experimental records were rapidly vanishing.
Suddenly, the floor of the laboratory began to tremble.
A massive crack opened up in the floor, and a powerful suction pulled me into an unknown abyss. The Life Detector flashed frantically, its energy level dropping to 2%.
As I fell, I heard Li Xudong's chilling laughter: "Welcome to the real laboratory."
Falling into a pitch-black abyss, my back slammed hard against the metallic floor. The piercing sound of alarms continued to echo in my ears, but the space here was clearly much more expansive.
"Did you really think I would let you destroy this data so easily?" Li Xudong's voice came from above, accompanied by heavy footsteps. "This is the real laboratory."
Suddenly, blinding white light illuminated the area, and I squinted to see my surroundings. It was a vast circular underground chamber, with walls lined densely with Cultivation Chambers, each containing a floating figure.
