Ever since returning from the Tang Sect, Luo Hongyi felt that something was off with her. One moment, her mind was filled with scenes of the two of them in the carriage, and the next, she recalled Gu Huachang's expression when he referred to himself as a tool for killing. Her heart ached, a mix of bitterness and pain that made her almost believe she was ill.
Gu Huachang seemed to sense her anger. He had knocked on her door twice during this time, but she had refused to let him in. Instead, he had to rely on the waiter to bring her meals at regular intervals.
“Luo Hongyi, this is the dish that Young Master Gu ordered for you. Why don’t you try it and see if it suits your taste?”
“What is this…” Luo Hongyi paused, surprised. Was it a coincidence? Why were these two dishes—her absolute favorites—served to her?
“This is Dry-Fried Fish and Stuffed Meat with Poplar Catkin Radish. Young Master Gu mentioned that during your first meeting, you seemed quite interested in these dishes, so he specifically ordered them for you.”
A wave of emotion washed over Luo Hongyi, feeling as if she had been deeply wronged; tears welled up in her eyes.
What was wrong with him? If he had looked down on her from the start, why was he so attentive to what she liked to eat?
Luo Hongyi picked up her bowl and took a few bites before tears streamed down her face like pearls from a broken string. “What’s wrong with being a killer? At least it’s better than those hypocritical scoundrels of the martial world!”
“I'm sorry!” Gu Huachang's voice came from outside the door. Clearly, after the waiter left, he had been standing there quietly.
“What do you want? Have you figured out how to die?” Luo Hongyi quickly turned away, hastily wiping her tears and turning back to glare at him fiercely.
“I didn’t mean to look down on you; I just think it’s too cruel to treat human lives as mere weeds… I understand that you have your own reasons… In any case, I apologize for my thoughtless words. Please forgive me, Luo Hongyi.” He said this while bowing deeply, presenting himself as someone who would accept any punishment or reprimand.
Luo Hongyi glanced at the two dishes again and then at Gu Huachang. Her anger dissipated significantly, though she still retorted stubbornly, “I can’t accept that!”
Gu Huachang lifted her gaze, her pitch-black eyes fixed intently on Luo Hongyi, making her heart race with unease. Suddenly, she took a step back, recalling that Gu Huachang's pupils were not this color at all.
"You are not Gu Huachang!" Luo Hongyi exclaimed, a sharp pain gripping her heart, causing her to struggle for breath.
"Haha!" The figure before her, with Gu Huachang's face, showed a flicker of surprise in their eyes but continued to laugh as they tore off a mask revealing a human face.
"It’s you again!" Luo Hongyi glared at boss Tang, whose expression was one of triumph. "Did you poison my food?"
"I never expected that Luo Hongyi, so young, would have such keen insight! Truly a product of Meng Po Hall!" boss Tang said smugly as he stepped closer, reaching out to caress her delicate cheek. "So, how does it feel, Luo Hongyi? This carefully prepared Nine-Tiered Red is surely superior to your Meng Po Hall's detox pills, isn't it?"
Luo Hongyi forced herself to remain calm as she tightened her grip on the whip and sneered, "A mere little poison dares to show its face? You Tang Sect people really are getting worse with each generation!"
"Just keep talking tough! Hehe, if it weren't for the fact that you have some charm, I would have turned you into a puddle of blood for your rudeness that day!" boss Tang said as he wrapped his arms around Luo Hongyi's slender waist. "To be honest, I’m quite curious about what it's like to enjoy a woman from Meng Po Hall. Is it really as thrilling as they say?"
"Beast!" Luo Hongyi summoned all her strength and struck fiercely at his back with the whip. Though her strength was only a third of what it usually was, it still made him flinch and his eyes darken further.
"If you dare lay a finger on me, Meng Po Hall will surely come after you and raze your Tang Sect to the ground!" Luo Hongyi stood tall, though internally she lamented; if Jinsi knew how useless she was right now, she would definitely be expelled.
"Is that so? What do you think will happen after I’ve had my fun with you and toss you onto Gu Huachang's bed? What do you think he will do?" boss Tang laughed maniacally as he ripped off the cloud robe from Luo Hongyi's shoulder and bit down hard on her smooth shoulder.
Luo Hongyi trembled with rage and pushed him away forcefully. She raised her whip again but felt a wave of dizziness wash over her; darkness clouded her vision as she nearly collapsed.
Fortunately, a figure in white appeared just in time and caught her tightly. She turned to see it was Gu Huachang!
Before her stood Gu Huachang, still resembling the scholarly figure he had always been, but the cold killing intent in his eyes startled Luo Hongyi.
In the next moment, Gu Huachang directly wrapped his arms around her and leaped into the air. A flash of silver suddenly appeared at his waist, and without any wind, a steady attack surged forth, seemingly soft yet flowing like water as it shot towards boss Tang's eyes.
Seeing Gu Huachang personally take action, boss Tang naturally did not dare to underestimate him and quickly dodged. However, just as he moved, Gu Huachang's soft sword suddenly thrust out with a speed ten times faster than before. The tip of the sword sank deeply, leaving a bone-deep gash across boss Tang's throat.
Luo Hongyi watched in shock, while boss Tang clutched his neck with wide, furious eyes. "Gu Huachang, you clearly said you wouldn't kill anyone..."
"Well then, let me correct that from this moment on! I do not kill indiscriminately, but I will never show mercy to those who are worse than pigs or dogs!"
"You..." boss Tang extended his finger in unwillingness but didn’t have time to finish his last complaint before a loud "bang" echoed, and he fell silent.
"Are you alright?" Gu Huachang held Luo Hongyi tightly, his expression complex.
Luo Hongyi gritted her teeth and tightened her grip on his robe. "You fool, if anything happens to me, I won't let you off even as a ghost!" Yet after saying that, she felt a sense of relief wash over her.
