"You don't want to argue, but I insist on having a proper discussion." Su Ying moved gracefully, taking a few steps forward. With her delicate hand, she picked up the bowl of Sweet Soup and presented it to Fu Ning, narrowing her eyes slightly, her gaze sharp and resolute, urging her to drink.
"I... I don't like sweet food either. Um..." Fu Ning was about to refuse when Su Ying swiftly seized her arm. With a slight force, she poured the entire bowl of Sweet Soup into Fu Ning's mouth.
The scalding Sweet Soup caught Fu Ning off guard. Startled and burned, she stumbled and fell to the ground, covering her face with her hands as she began to sob softly.
"With such petty tricks, do you think you can harm me? In the depths of the palace, there are countless women far more ruthless than you. It's a place where one can kill without shedding blood. But don't forget, that's where I've lived since childhood. Do you really think you stand a chance if it comes to a fight?"
After coldly delivering her words, Su Ying swung her arm violently, shattering the bowl on the ground with a sharp crash that startled everyone present into lowering their heads, not daring to breathe.
As night fell, news came from the Drunken Moon Pavilion that Fu Ning was suffering from severe abdominal pain and had been vomiting and experiencing diarrhea for quite some time.
Su Ying had expected Ye Yang to storm into her room in a rage like he did the previous night, wishing to devour her alive. However, he didn't even step foot into Jin Yuan.
The night was clear as Su Ying stood alone in the peach grove not far from the Drunken Moon Pavilion, watching as chaos unfolded over there.
She couldn't help but think that if she were the one vomiting and suffering today, Ye Yang would be frantic with worry instead of remaining indifferent as he was now.
Slowly raising her hand, she took out the Jade Flute from her waist and gently turned it before walking towards Jin Yuan while playing a melancholic tune on the flute that echoed with endless loneliness and sorrow.
Ye Yang was anxiously guarding Fu Ning's bedside when the sound of the flute suddenly reached his ears, causing his mind to spiral into confusion. Fragmented images flooded his thoughts like a tide but never managed to piece together completely.
He vaguely remembered a beautiful voice echoing in his mind: "I believe in you, I believe you will triumph, I believe you will return safely to marry me."
"General, are you alright? Your face looks so pale," the maid beside him said with concern in her voice. Ye Yang rubbed his forehead and gently shook his head, simply instructing, "Take good care of Second Madam Lou," before turning to leave.
His steps felt heavy, perhaps during the time he fell from the cliff, he truly forgot something crucial.
He reached up to touch his chest, feeling an emptiness there, as if a piece was missing.
His waist-length hair was styled into a beautiful and casual bun, with golden ornaments sparkling atop it, a simple embellishment that added an air of nobility.
Su Ying wore a wide-sleeved luxurious gown embroidered with magnificent peonies. As she moved, the patterns at the hem of her skirt bloomed like a thousand flowers, breathtakingly beautiful. Yesterday, someone from the palace sent word that it was the Emperor's birthday, and a banquet was to be held in celebration. The Empress specifically requested Su Ying and Lou Ye Yang to attend together.
"Madam, the General has arrived," Cai Zhu announced as she stepped into the room, her face beaming with joy. Su Ying merely nodded lightly and then turned around slowly, carefully examining her attire. A hint of unnoticeable melancholy flashed in her eyes.
When Lou Ye Yang entered the room, he paused slightly as well. Today he wore a moon-white satin robe, with a fine waist ornament hanging at his side. His black hair was styled up with a crown, giving him an air of gallantry and extraordinary handsomeness.
"Are we ready to depart?" Su Ying forced herself to look away from him. She knew all too well that the more she looked, the more pain would pierce her heart.
"Yes," Lou Ye Yang replied softly before turning to walk out. Su Ying composed her expression and lifted her skirt to follow him outside.
Inside Cheng Huan Palace, it was resplendent with gold and jade. The civil and military officials took their seats in order of rank, their cups filled with shimmering wine. On the central stage, a group of dancers swayed their flowing sleeves, creating graceful arcs in the air.
In the clear water pools on either side, ripples danced across the surface. Though summer had not yet fully arrived, pure white lotus flowers stood elegantly above the water like something out of a fairy tale. As the dance concluded, everyone bowed in respect to the Emperor on the high platform.
"May my father live as long as the East Sea and enjoy blessings equal to the heavens," Su Ying said softly as she knelt down gracefully, a sweet smile gracing her face as she offered her wishes.
"I haven't seen Ying'er dance with a sword for a long time. I wonder if she could entertain her father today?" The Emperor smiled kindly, glancing at the Empress beside him.
"Your son obeys," Su Ying replied with a smile, her gaze intentionally drifting towards Lou Ye Yang. She wielded her silver sword, moving like a graceful serpent, her figure light and airy. With a flick of her long sleeves, she spun elegantly, resembling a fluttering butterfly.
The patterns on her skirt danced with her movements, blooming like enchanting flowers. With each step, her dance was as ethereal as that of a celestial being.
As the performance concluded, Su Ying noticed a fleeting look of surprise in Lou Ye Yang's eyes. When he regained his composure, he cast her a half-smile that held a hint of complex emotions, difficult to decipher.
Midway through the banquet, a young eunuch hurried in and whispered something into Lou Ye Yang's ear. His expression shifted from dazed to pleasantly surprised in an instant.
"Cai Zhu, go stop that eunuch and ask him what he just reported to the general," Su Ying instructed softly to Cai Zhu standing beside her. When she looked back, she realized Lou Ye Yang had quietly left his seat without her noticing.
"Madam, just now the general's residence sent word that the Second Lady is unwell. A doctor has been called, and it seems she is with child," Cai Zhu whispered in her ear. Su Ying's grip on her wine cup trembled slightly, causing a few drops to spill onto her hand, chilling her to the bone. No wonder he had rushed back home so anxiously; no wonder he had looked so delighted.
