"Why?"
I asked, a sense of foreboding rising within me.
"Because she discovered something she shouldn't have."
Wang Jingya's tone was low, and a flicker of fear crossed her eyes.
"What did she discover?"
I stepped closer, fixing my gaze on her eyes.
"The secret of the Height Increasing Drug."
She finally uttered the word that had haunted my thoughts.
My heart raced, as if it were trying to leap out of my chest.
"What do you know?"
I struggled to control my emotions, but my voice still trembled slightly.
Wang Jingya took a deep breath and slowly said, "This drug is not an ordinary Height Increasing Drug; behind it lies a massive conspiracy."
"What conspiracy?"
I asked impatiently.
"I don't know,"
Wang Jingya shook her head,
"But I do know that someone doesn't want this secret to be uncovered, so they took Li Mengni."
"Who are they?"
A chill ran down my spine, creeping from my feet to the top of my head.
"I don't know,"
Wang Jingya shook her head again,
"But I can tell you that they are very dangerous—extremely dangerous."
I looked at Wang Jingya; her eyes were filled with fear and concern, which only reinforced my belief that she was not lying.
"Where is Li Mengni now?"
This is the question that weighs heavily on my mind.
"I don't know,"
Wang Jingya's tears shimmer in her eyes.
"But I do know that if we don't act soon, she might..."
She trails off, but I understand her meaning all too well.
"We have to save her!"
I declare resolutely.
"How do we save her?"
Wang Jingya looks at me helplessly.
"We need to find those people and uncover their true identities!"
I clench my fists, determination shining in my eyes.
Wang Jingya gazes at me, a glimmer of hope flickering in her expression.
"I have a lead,"
she suddenly says.
"Before Li Mengni went missing, she was investigating an organization called ' Obsidian.'"
" Obsidian?"
I furrow my brow; the name sends a chill down my spine.
"Yes,"
Wang Jingya nods.
"It's a very mysterious organization. It's said they hold many secrets that are unknown to the public."
"How can we find them?"
I ask.
"In Li Mengni's apartment, there might still be some clues," Wang Jingya said.
I immediately turned and ran out of the gym, with Wang Jingya following closely behind.
When we arrived at Li Mengni's apartment, we found it in complete disarray, clearly having been ransacked.
I searched every corner meticulously, hoping to find some useful leads.
Suddenly, I spotted a note next to a broken medicine bottle.
The note bore a strange symbol, resembling a twisted letter or an abstract pattern.
I recognized this symbol; I had seen similar markings on several suspicious individuals I encountered before.
"This is Obsidian's emblem!" Wang Jingya exclaimed.
My heart sank. It seemed that everything was indeed related to Obsidian.
I picked up Li Mengni's laptop, trying to extract more information from it.
There was an encrypted folder on the computer. I attempted several passwords but couldn't unlock it.
"Let me give it a try," Wang Jingya said as she approached the laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
She was a computer whiz and had previously hacked into the school's firewall.
A few minutes later, the folder was opened.
Inside were numerous documents regarding Height Increasing Drug and Obsidian —results from Li Mengni's investigation.
As I browsed through the materials, my unease grew.
It turned out that Height Increasing Drug was a genetically modified substance that could not only alter a person's height but also enhance various physical abilities.
Obsidian, on the other hand, was an evil organization conducting human experiments using this drug.
They kidnapped innocent people, treating them as test subjects in an attempt to create the perfect super soldiers.
Li Mengni was captured by them because she had uncovered their secret.
A wave of anger and fear washed over me; I was furious at Obsidian's cruelty and terrified for Li Mengni's safety.
"We must call the police immediately!" Wang Jingya exclaimed.
"No," I shook my head. "We don't know if there are any of them among the police. Reporting it will only alert them."
"What should we do then?" Wang Jingya asked anxiously.
"We can only rely on ourselves."
I took a deep breath. "We need to find Obsidian's base and rescue Li Mengni."
"But how can we find them?" Wang Jingya felt a surge of helplessness.
I paused for a moment, suddenly remembering something.
"I know someone who might be able to help us."
"Who?" Wang Jingya asked curiously.
"Lu Wei."
