"Lu Wei, I need your help." I dialed the number.
"What’s the matter?" Lu Wei's voice came through, laced with fatigue.
"Li Mengni has been captured. I need your connections and resources."
There was a brief silence on the other end. "Come to my house. We need to discuss this in detail."
Half an hour later, I stood in front of Lu Wei's luxurious villa. He was wearing a tight tank top, his muscular physique accentuated under the lights.
"Come in," he said, stepping aside to let me enter.
I quickly explained the situation, and Lu Wei's brow furrowed deeper. "This isn't simple; the forces behind this are likely..."
Before he could finish, the doorbell rang suddenly.
On the surveillance screen, Li Jiali stood outside in a low-cut dress, her ample bosom nearly spilling out from the neckline.
"Let me in; I have crucial information," she urged, her voice tinged with urgency.
Lu Wei opened the door, and Li Jiali hurried inside, her slender waist and curvy hips swaying gently with each step.
"Coach Fang Zhiqiang is the mastermind behind this," she stated bluntly.
Both Lu Wei and I were taken aback.
"I overheard him talking to a mysterious person about Height Increasing Drugs," Li Jiali leaned back on the sofa, her long legs crossed elegantly.
"So, Li Mengni is likely being held at..." Lu Wei pondered aloud.
"The Old Gymnasium basement." Suddenly, it struck me. "That’s Fang Zhiqiang's secret training ground."
Night enveloped the city; streetlights cast a dim glow over empty streets. I accelerated my car towards the abandoned training ground. My heart raced like a drumbeat. I had no idea what awaited me, but I was ready for battle.
The Abandoned Basketball Court lay silent. The dilapidated hoops and weathered walls exuded an air of decay. I cautiously stepped into the court, scanning my surroundings.
Suddenly, I heard a faint noise. Alert, I followed the sound's direction.
In a corner, I spotted Li Mengni. She was tied to a chair, her mouth taped shut, fear evident in her eyes. Beside her stood a tall man clad in a black suit, sunglasses obscuring his gaze as he held a gun in his hand.
"Who are you?" I asked in a low voice.
The man did not answer, merely staring at me coldly.
"Let her go!" I said sharply.
A smirk appeared on the man's lips. "On what grounds?"
"On the grounds that I am Liu Chunfeng." My tone was firm.
The man paused for a moment, seemingly taken aback by my declaration.
"Liu Chunfeng?" He repeated my name, "The kid who took the Height Increasing Drug?"
"That's right." I nodded.
"Heh," the man sneered, "It seems you are our target."
His words sent a chill through me. It appeared that the Obsidian Organization's target was not just Li Mengni, but me as well.
"What do you want?" I asked warily.
"We want the Height Increasing Drug you have," the man said, "and its formula."
"I don't know any formula," I denied vehemently.
"Stop playing dumb," he scoffed, "We've already investigated; you're the one who invented the Height Increasing Drug."
"I really don't know," I insisted again.
The man raised his gun, pointing it at my head. "I'll give you one last chance to hand over the formula, or you'll never see her again."
I looked at Li Mengni's terrified eyes, filled with helplessness.
I couldn't give up the formula. Because I didn't have a formula at all.
"I told you, I don't know," I said firmly.
A glint of murderous intent flashed in the man's eyes. "It seems you're asking for punishment instead of a drink."
He pulled the trigger.
At that moment, a figure suddenly rushed out and stood in front of me.
It was Lu Wei.
The gunshot rang out.
Lu Wei fell into a pool of blood.
"Lu Wei!" I screamed in agony.
My eyes turned blood red in an instant.
A surge of intense anger welled up from deep within me.
I lunged at the man, slamming him hard to the ground.
I mounted him and rained down punches on his face.
"You deserve to die!"
I roared.
The man struggled to resist, but I had already lost my sanity. My fists fell upon him like raindrops. Until he breathed no more.
I stood up, looking at Lu Wei lying in a pool of blood, my heart filled with sorrow.
I walked over to Li Mengni and untied the ropes binding her.
"Are you okay?" I asked with concern.
Li Mengni shook her head, tears streaming down her face.
"Lu Wei... he..." she choked out.
I held her tightly in my arms, overwhelmed with pain and guilt.
If I hadn't come to find her, Lu Wei wouldn't have died.
This was all my fault.
Suddenly, I heard footsteps approaching.
I immediately became alert and turned to look.
It was Fang Zhiqiang.
He held a gun in his hand, aimed directly at me.
"Liu Chunfeng," he sneered, "the game is over."
My heart sank to the depths.
