After the group was formed, we performed together at various events, but our relationship did not improve. Of course, in front of the cameras, we appeared harmonious, as if we were close friends who shared everything, perfectly embodying the notion of "plastic sisters."
Tang Tang often caused trouble, bringing us "new surprises." For instance, during one performance, she suddenly changed a specific move, disrupting the unity of the entire act. Another time, when it was my turn to speak during an interview, she pretended to laugh loudly. Her antics didn’t seem to bring her much negative attention; instead, fans showered her with compliments.
“Tang Tang is amazing; she always brings something new!”
“Sugar Baby has such a low sense of humor, hahaha!”
“Tang Tang is so genuine and not pretentious; go for it, little princess!”
Each time, I could only silently pray that she would tone it down a bit next time.
Back at this year’s New Year Gala, Tang Tang had already given us a "surprise" before the performance. I was in the designated dressing room changing into my performance outfit. To match the spring theme of our song, we had chosen outfits in white and teal. However, when I arrived at our agreed meeting spot, I found that Tang Tang had changed into a black outfit with exquisite gold embroidery.
The director rushed over, panting, and upon seeing Tang Tang's outfit, his expression darkened. Tang Tang sweetly said, “Director, my original outfit got dirty by accident thanks to my assistant; I had to use this one as a backup.”
The director opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by someone calling him from a distance for an urgent matter. He finally sighed and said, “Forget it; just perform well,” shaking his head in resignation as he walked away.
Tang Tang maintained her charming smile as if this incident was merely an inconsequential hiccup. I felt speechless at her knack for creating drama out of nothing while secretly admiring her boldness: impressive! She dared to pull such stunts on the live stage of the New Year Gala!
We thought that was all for her tricks this time, but it turned out to be just an appetizer; the main course was yet to come. Not only did she change outfits last minute, but during the actual performance, she also firmly occupied the center stage as if it had been planned all along. I couldn’t understand why she was so obsessed with being in the C Position. During our third rehearsal, Tang Tang insisted on staying in the C Position for the first verse before moving during the chorus.
I had no idea how she operated, but I went along with her wishes and rehearsed it all. However, since the standing performance didn't match the theme of the lyrics about spring outings, the director ultimately scrapped that plan. Now, she pulled another stunt. I felt a cold sweat break out on my back, unsure if it was from exhaustion or fear.
Next up was the part for Zao Zao, which corresponded to the mountaintop in the lyrics. She needed to be in the C Position, where a small platform would support her. I was worried that Tang Tang would continue to occupy the C Position and improvise, so I took her hand and led her away from the center, pretending we were enjoying ourselves.
Tang Tang was momentarily taken aback by my sudden action, a flicker of surprise crossing her eyes. She probably didn't expect me to divert her from the C Position at such a crucial moment. I smoothly guided her back to where she was originally supposed to be.
Zao Zao, understanding the unspoken cue, took her place in the C Position and continued performing. The stage show finally returned to normal. I let out a sigh of relief; God knows how worried I was that Tang Tang wouldn't cooperate with me—if that happened, we would have been doomed.
As we reached the final part of the performance, we stopped dancing and stood still, waving our arms while singing. Each of us had designated spots to determine camera angles. While singing, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Tang Tang wasn't standing still; she seemed to sway back and forth casually.
Fearing I might block the side camera, I took a small step forward, but immediately after, Tang Tang followed suit and stepped forward as well. I thought to myself: ...I'm done. Let it all fall apart; I can't deal with this anymore—just as long as we get through it visibly.
Finally, the performance ended, and we returned backstage. It felt like I had just run a marathon. My spirit felt like an elastic band being stretched repeatedly—tight one moment and loose the next—now completely devoid of its original elasticity. My steps were unsteady, and my eyes lacked their usual sparkle.
I had so many questions for Tang Tang but didn't know where to start. Thankfully, our contract with the talent show group would end by the end of this month; I wouldn't have to be her teammate anymore. Sighing inwardly, I realized I hadn't said anything at all. The others remained silent too, casting complicated glances at Tang Tang.
Tang Tang seemed to see nothing and chatted casually with her assistant. After that, we left the television station with our respective agents and went back to rest.
