“Lu Zixuan, why do you always follow me?” I puffed my cheeks and pretended to be angry as I glared at him. He grinned mischievously and leaned closer, “Because I like you, Xiaoli.” My cheeks instantly flushed bright red. “Who... who believes your nonsense!” Though I said I didn’t believe him, my heart raced like a startled deer.
I am Su Xiaoli, and the person I have disliked the most since childhood is my neighbor—Lu Zixuan! Honestly, saying “dislike” doesn’t even begin to express the depth of my feelings for him.
Why? Because he is practically a walking “prank manual”!
I was quietly sitting under a big tree in the yard, drawing. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled shadows on my paper as I focused intently on capturing the scene before me. Suddenly, a loud “Wow!” startled me, causing my hand to jerk and leaving a long ink streak across my paper, completely ruining my artwork. I turned around furiously; it was obvious who the culprit was—Lu Zixuan was doubled over with laughter, holding his stomach.
“Lu Zixuan! What are you doing?” I shouted in anger, wanting nothing more than to throw my paintbrush at his face.
He finally managed to stop laughing and walked over, placing a hand on my shoulder with a teasing tone. “Come on, Xiaoli, don’t be so mad! I just thought you were too serious and wanted to lighten the mood.”
I swatted his hand away. “Who asked you to lighten the mood? Look at my drawing; you ruined it!”
“On my honor, I really didn’t mean to!” He raised three fingers in a mock oath. “I just wanted to say hi; who knew you’d react this way?”
It seemed he had only just noticed the ink streak on my paper and feigned surprise. “Oh no! I’m really sorry! How about I pay you back with another drawing?”
“Pay? Can you even afford it? This is my entry for the competition!” I glared at him, wishing I could poke a few holes in him out of frustration.
He grinned cheekily. “Don’t be so stingy! Worst case scenario, I’ll help you create an even better one!”
"Are you going to help me draw?" I looked him up and down, my face filled with skepticism. "Can you even draw?"
He puffed out his chest and proudly declared, "Are you kidding? My artistic talent is one in a million! Just wait, I'll show you!"
With that, he snatched the brush from my hand and began doodling on my paper. Watching him scribble wildly made my blood boil.
"Lu Zixuan! What are you doing?" I reached for the brush, but he nimbly dodged my grasp.
"Don't rush! It'll be done in a moment!" he said, grinning as he continued to draw. "Aren't you excited for my masterpiece?"
A few minutes later, he handed me the brush with a look that screamed "praise me!" "Ta-da! All done!"
I took the paper and nearly choked on my own breath at what I saw. He had drawn a... pig! And not just any pig, but the ugliest pig imaginable!
"Lu Zixuan! You've gone too far!" I could no longer hold back and chased after him.
"Hahaha! Xiaoli, you can't catch me!" he shouted as he ran away, sticking his tongue out at me.
I stopped, panting heavily as I watched his retreating figure, silently vowing: Lu Zixuan, just wait! One day, I'll make you pay for this!
