For several days, this sentence lingered in Ling Yunchu's mind. What He Chong meant by that was… he liked her? 0

If he liked her, then why did he mock her time and again? Could it be the inherent cruelty of men? But he didn’t seem like the immature type! 0

“Stop it!” Just as Butcher Ling returned from drinking with Zhao Daye, he shouted as he rushed over to Ling Yunchu and snatched the pig slaughtering knife from her hands. If he had been just a moment slower, their stall would have had a different kind of “product.” 0

“I’m telling you, daughter, what were you thinking? You almost chopped off your own hand!” He quickly secured the knife, his face filled with concern. 0

“No, I was just lost in thought…” Before she could finish, He Chong leisurely stepped into the room, and Ling Yunchu’s heart immediately skipped a beat. She hurriedly lowered her head in a fluster. 0

He Chong glanced at her, seemingly very pleased with how she avoided his gaze. The moment Butcher Ling saw He Chong arrive, he immediately pulled him aside and said, “Daoist, come take a look at Yun Chu; she’s been restless and almost hurt herself just now.” 0

“Restless?” He Chong threw Ling Yunchu a cryptic glance and asked in a serious tone before stepping forward to place his fingers on her wrist. 0

After a moment, he said, “It’s due to overexertion leading to mental fatigue. I have a calming prescription here; take it once daily along with some rest, and she’ll naturally recover in time.” 0

Butcher Ling was overjoyed upon hearing this and hurriedly took the prescription from He Chong to fetch the medicine. 0

In the small room, only the two of them remained, each lost in their own thoughts. 0

He Chong’s gaze fell on the dead pig on the chopping board as he raised an eyebrow and asked, “Aren’t you afraid?” 0

“What kind of medicine did you give my father?” Ling Yunchu asked through gritted teeth. She didn’t believe that this seemingly righteous hypocrite would provide anything truly beneficial. 0

Sure enough, He Chong smirked and said proudly, "It is indeed a calming remedy, but I added another herb that might clash with the others. It’s nothing serious; at most, you’ll just be running to the toilet more often." 0

With a loud slap, Ling Yunchu struck the thick pigskin heavily, pointing an accusing finger at He Chong in anger. "You lying Daoist! You say you like me! Is there anyone who plays tricks like this?" 0

"I said I wanted to eat you; when did I ever say I liked you?" He Chong chuckled mischievously. "Or is this your true intention? You think I like you because you secretly harbor feelings for me? Otherwise, why would you be so angry?" 0

Ling Yunchu was momentarily speechless. Embarrassed, he grabbed He Chong's collar and threatened, "Do you believe I’ll chop you up?" 0

"I do." He Chong always adhered to the ancient wisdom of not suffering losses in front of others. "But could you let me go? My clothes are stained with pig fat, and they’re hard to wash, Yun Chu." The last two words were spoken softly and gently. His warm breath brushed against Ling Yunchu's ear, tickling it like a feather. Ling Yunchu snorted and wiped his hands on He Chong's collar a few times before finally letting go. 0

"Master He Chong," Ling Yunchu called respectfully, "can we clear up any past grievances today? From now on, you follow your path of cultivation while I deal with my big fat pigs. Let’s keep our lives separate and never cross paths again." 0

Thinking about having no further ties with He Chong made Ling Yunchu feel a pang of sadness, though his face remained serious. 0

"Yun Chu, the sea of slaughter is boundless; turning back is the shore." 0

"Clear Crane Temple is just a left turn out the door; safe travels and no need to see me off." 0

"Yun Chu, adding to your sins will lead to suffering in the cycle of rebirth." 0

"You cultivate Dao but not Buddhism; spare yourself the Buddhist scriptures." 0

"In that case, I can only follow your lead; I'll accompany you in slaughtering pigs." 0

“Who cares…” Ling Yunchu suddenly fell silent, meeting He Chong's gaze. There was a hint of teasing mixed with seriousness in his eyes, leaving Ling Yunchu at a loss for words. After a long pause, she finally managed to say, “You’re just talking nonsense.” 0

A light laugh escaped He Chong as he took hold of Ling Yunchu's hands, his eyes clear and bright. 0

“Yun Chu, I make you laugh simply because it’s you. Liking someone is just that—why hide it and suppress it? Honestly, I’m puzzled about how I came to like you, but there’s no trace to follow. I just want to ask you one thing: will you give me this chance?” 0

Ling Yunchu felt her cheeks flush. She should have boldly slapped He Chong and told him to go back to Clear Crane Temple, but instead, she heard herself say, “Can a Daoist really marry?” 0

“I didn’t expect you to care about that,” He Chong replied with a charming smile. “ Fire-Dwelling Taoist can indeed marry and have children.” 0

Seeing Ling Yunchu still looking bewildered, he pondered for a moment before saying, “Secular Disciple, do you understand now?” 0

Ling Yunchu nodded and playfully pushed He Chong toward the chopping board. With a smile, she said, “Then it doesn’t matter about the killing ban anymore; this task is yours now.” 0

He Chong twitched his mouth in resignation and replied, “Alright.” 0
