Chapter Five
"Impossible?"
I opened my phone and played a recording.
It was a conversation between Chu Yue and the driver.
"Remember, you must kill her."
Chu Yue's voice came through clearly.
"I've already transferred the money to you, make it clean."
The living room fell into a dead silence.
My parents' faces turned from pale to ashen.
"Now do you believe me?"
I put away my phone. "The White Lotus you carefully nurtured is actually a thorny Black Rose."
"Sister..."
Chu Yue walked down from upstairs.
Upon seeing me, her face instantly turned pale.
"What are you afraid of?" I sneered,
"I'm not going to reveal your true colors to our parents."
"Aren't you the best at acting? Keep it up."
"Sister, you're right."
Chu Yue suddenly spoke, her voice laced with malice.
"I did it on purpose, so what?"
My parents looked at her in shock. " Ruyue, you..."
"Yes, I wanted to kill her!"
Chu Yue shouted frantically,
"Why should she be superior just because she's the biological daughter?"
"I've worked so hard all these years just to make you hate her, to abandon her!"
So much has happened this week. After Chu Yue's true colors were revealed, my parents knelt on the ground begging for my forgiveness. But I had already made up my mind to leave. Some wounds cannot be healed with just an apology.
"Miss Gu." Lu Shihan suddenly spoke with a serious tone, his voice carrying an undeniable firmness. "Once I finish my work here, I will go to B City to find you."
I was taken aback and met his earnest gaze. "Why?"
"Because I promised to be with you." He took my hand, the warmth of his palm bringing a comforting sensation to my heart. "I never lie."
The announcement for the train's arrival echoed through the station. I picked up my luggage and turned to leave.
"Wait." Lu Shihan suddenly grabbed my hand. He pulled out a small box from his pocket.
"What is this?"
"A talisman," he said softly. "I had someone get it from the most effective temple." "I hope it can protect you."
"That's good." He paused for a moment. "I'm almost done with my work here. In two weeks, I can go to B City."
As I was speaking, my phone suddenly received a WeChat message.
It was from Chu Yue:
"Big sister, help me..."
I frowned.
She hadn't contacted me for the past month. Why was she suddenly sending such a message?
"What's wrong?" Lu Shihan noticed my unease.
"Nothing, just a message from Chu Yue," I replied casually.
"Be careful," he warned. "Don't let her trick you."
After hanging up, I opened Chu Yue's message.
She had sent a video.
In the video, she was surrounded by several men, looking quite distressed.
"Big sister, I owe Usury..."
"They want me to sell myself to pay off the debt..."
"Please, I beg you to save me..."
I stared at the video for a long time.
Chu Yue in the footage indeed looked very disheveled; her makeup was a mess, and her clothes were torn and ragged.
But something felt off.
Just then, I noticed a detail.
The wallpaper in the background of the video was identical to that in the living room of Gu Family Villa. This wasn't shot outside; it was filmed at home.
"Big sister, you’re here..."
"Chu Yue's voice emerged from the darkness. She looked disheveled, her hair a mess and her clothes tattered.
"Stop pretending," I said coldly. "How many times have you played this trick?"
Chu Yue paused for a moment, then revealed a sinister smile. "It seems you've seen through me."
With a snap of her fingers, several burly men stepped out from the shadows. "Sister, you have disappointed me greatly. I was hoping to put on a good show, but you are just not cooperating."
"So what now?" I scanned the surroundings. "What do you want?"
"Very simple." Chu Yue produced a document. "Sign this."
I took a glance at it; it was a stock transfer agreement. So that was her plan—she wanted the 20% shares of the Gu that I held.
"I see what you're after," I chuckled. "But unfortunately, you've got the wrong person."
