Chapter One
"Li Feng, you are truly useless!"
Zhao Ting's sharp voice pierced through the silence of the shabby rental apartment.
I slowly opened my eyes, my gaze cold as I stared at the woman who had once been familiar to me.
She was dressed in a glamorous outfit, heavily made up, completely out of place in this dilapidated environment.
"Zhao Ting, is there something you need?"
My voice was hoarse, tinged with a barely noticeable fatigue.
"I came to tell you that Chen Hu and I are getting married."
Zhao Ting lifted her chin, her eyes gleaming with triumph.
I let out a cold laugh, feeling no stir of emotion within.
"Congratulations."
I uttered the words flatly.
"What kind of attitude is that?"
Zhao Ting seemed displeased with my reaction, her brows furrowing in anger.
"What attitude should I have?"
I retorted, my gaze sharp as a blade.
"Li Feng, don't forget who saved you back then! Who took care of you without hesitation when you were gravely injured?"
Zhao Ting's voice became sharp, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"Yes, who was it?"
A mocking smile curled at the corners of my mouth.
"If it weren't for me, you would have been dead long ago!"
Zhao Ting shouted angrily.
"And then you would have taken all my resources and flown off with Chen Hu?"
My tone was icy, my eyes filled with derision.
Zhao Ting's expression changed, her gaze flickering uncertainly.
"Those resources were rightfully mine!"
She argued back stubbornly.
"Do you even know how much I sacrificed to take care of you?"
"Sacrificed?"
I laughed as if I had heard the funniest joke.
"What you call sacrifice is stealing my identity card while I was unconscious, transferring all my savings, and then running off with Chen Hu?"
My tone was frigid, each word squeezed out as if from between clenched teeth.
Zhao Ting's face turned pale, her lips trembling, yet she couldn't utter a word.
"You know better than I do how scarce the resources at Red Star are."
My tone was low, a flicker of pain crossing my eyes.
"The resources I've fought tooth and nail to gather were enough for both of us to survive at Red Star. But what about you?"
I stared intently at Zhao Ting, my gaze piercing.
"You abandoned me without hesitation for a better life, not even bothering to say goodbye."
A hint of panic flashed in Zhao Ting's eyes, but she quickly regained her composure.
"I only made the choice I had to make."
Her tone was firm.
"Chen Hu can offer me a better life; why wouldn't I choose him?"
"Choice?"
I let out a cold laugh.
"Is what you call a choice nothing more than betrayal?"
"Li Feng, don't be ungrateful!"
Zhao Ting's anger flared.
"If it weren't for me, you would have been dead long ago! You should be thanking me!"
"Thank you?"
My eyes were filled with anger.
"I thank your whole family!"
I suddenly stood up, grabbing Zhao Ting by the collar and pinning her against the wall.
"You think I don't know about your little tricks?"
I said through gritted teeth.
"You approached me just for my resources! You don't love me at all!"
A flicker of fear crossed Zhao Ting's eyes, but she still tried to maintain her composure.
"You’re talking nonsense!"
She struggled, trying to break free from my grip.
"I love you! I've always loved you!"
"Love me?"
I scoffed and released my hold.
"If you truly loved me, you wouldn't have left when I needed you the most!"
"Li Feng, let me explain..."
Zhao Ting's voice trembled slightly.
I turned around, no longer paying her any attention.
"Get lost!"
I spat out the words coldly.
"Do you really think I would still believe your nonsense?"
"Li Feng..."
Zhao Ting wanted to say something more, but I didn't give her the chance.
I suddenly swung the door open and pushed her out.
"Get lost! Never show your face in front of me again!"
With a loud bang, I slammed the door shut, shutting out Zhao Ting's cries.
I leaned against the door, taking a deep breath, trying to calm the anger boiling inside me.
This woman actually had the audacity to come back to me!
Did she think I would forgive her?
In her dreams!
