"Help! There’s an assassin!"
Feng Chen hurriedly held Liu Ruoruo's fallen body and shouted for help.
Seeing someone approaching, the assassin quickly retracted his long sword, leaped onto the beam, and jumped out of the courtyard.
Lying in Feng Chen's arms, Liu Ruoruo gritted her teeth against the intense pain in her abdomen, gripping Feng Chen's shoulder tightly. "Feng... Feng Chen... Do you believe me? I... I truly want to repent."
"Stop talking! Your wound is still bleeding!" Feng Chen was completely taken aback by Liu Ruoruo's act of shielding him from the blade; his heart was still engulfed in shock.
Watching the woman in his arms furrow her brow in pain, he yelled at a nearby guard, "What are you staring at?! Hurry and find a royal physician!"
Just as the guard was about to run off, Liu Ruoruo stopped him.
With her blood-stained fingers gripping Feng Chen's sleeve tightly, she insisted, "No! You can’t go! Unless you promise to marry me, or let me bleed out and die."
" Murong Xue!" The usually gentle Feng Chen couldn't help but shout. How could she be so reckless with her own body?
She was clearly in agony, yet...
Liu Ruoruo remained unyielding, gasping from the pain but still gritting her teeth. "Feng Chen, you have two choices: either agree to marry me or watch me die!"
Time slipped away quietly as their eyes clashed like thunder and lightning.
The guards and the steward were as anxious as ants on a hot pan, pacing back and forth. Even Feng Lan, who had been leisurely enjoying tea and admiring flowers in the courtyard, was startled by the commotion and hurried over.
If it weren't for Liu Ruoruo's prior order to have Mo Ying stop Feng Lan, she would have rushed over long ago, eager to knock Liu Ruoruo unconscious and hand her over to the physician.
"Feng Chen, do you really feel nothing for me?" Liu Ruoruo cried out in front of everyone, tears streaming down her face.
These tears were partly due to the heartache of pursuing someone who seemed unattainable and partly from the unbearable pain of her wound.
Blood gushed from her fingers, staining the pure white satin beneath her like vibrant flowers blooming with life.
A group of servants stood dumbfounded; they had never seen such a prince before.
The former prince was once a super villain, but today, he seemed to have transformed into a lovesick fool, troubled by his feelings!
Feng Chen's fingertips trembled slightly, yet his beautiful eyes avoided meeting hers.
Even after all this, he remained unmoved?
Liu Ruoruo's face had turned as pale as paper from the pain, and an overwhelming dizziness crashed over her like a tide.
She gritted her teeth and decided to use her trump card.
Liu Ruoruo spoke in a halting manner, but her gaze and tone were filled with deep sorrow, piercing to the heart: “Feng Chen… I really… truly… felt it the moment I saw you…”
She had intended to say, "I fell for you," but unfortunately, that prepared line never made it out.
Under the intense gaze of the crowd, the woman lying in Feng Chen's arms closed her eyes and fainted.
In the last second before losing consciousness, Liu Ruoruo cursed inwardly: Although acting needs to be realistic, Mo Ying, you really went too far!
You made it so I couldn't even say my most important line!
Liu Ruoruo used her injury as an excuse to cling to Feng Chen like a stubborn gum.
He had tried several times to send her out of the room, but each time she would clutch her wound and cry out in pain with a pitiful expression.
In the first couple of instances, seeing her bloodless face after losing so much blood made Feng Chen relent and let her stay.
But now it had been over a month, and she still wouldn’t let him return to the Prime Minister's Residence. It was practically a form of confinement.
“Your Highness, please allow me to leave,” Feng Chen said helplessly, his tone tinged with a hint of pleading.
Liu Ruoruo grabbed Feng Chen's arm and swayed like a spoiled little girl: “No. Feng Chen, don’t be like that. Just forgive me for my past ignorance, okay?”
“Fine, I forgive you,” Feng Chen sighed in resignation.
“Really?” Liu Ruoruo's eyes lit up instantly with joy.
"Mm." Feng Chen nodded slightly.
Finally, she had managed to settle one thing!
Liu Ruoruo was so overjoyed that she lost herself in the moment and jumped up excitedly.
However, reality was always harsh, and joy often led to sorrow.
She noticed that Feng Chen was staring at her wound, and immediately covered it again, pretending to be in great pain as she cried out.
"Stop pretending, Your Highness. I have already forgiven you, so please let me go." Liu Ruoruo felt reluctant to let him go; after all, he and Feng Lan were the first men she had encountered since arriving in this world.
But he was determined to leave. The Purple-Eyed Beauty had told her to eliminate the brothers' resentment towards her. Thinking it over, letting him go might indeed be a solution. After all, forcing someone who didn't love her to stay would only deepen his resentment, wouldn't it?
A hint of indescribable bitterness surged within Liu Ruoruo. She lifted her head and looked into Feng Chen's eyes but found no trace of reluctance for her departure in those depths.
"Alright, I will let you go." Liu Ruoruo's voice was somewhat hoarse, tinged with loneliness.
With a heavy heart, Liu Ruoruo dragged her feet toward the door. This time, she did not look back.
Unbeknownst to her, Feng Chen stood behind her, gazing at her retreating figure, lost in thought for a long time. A flicker of complex emotions seemed to flash across his eyes.
