William lay on the floor, gasping for breath, pain seeping into every nerve in his body from every pore. His heart was filled with confusion and anger. Why had this bastard, this pathetic old man named James just a month ago, transformed into something so different? What gave him the right? William couldn't comprehend how all of this had come to pass. What he found most unbearable was why everyone liked him, why no one could see James's true face. Did only he have the ability to see through that hypocritical, cunning, damned mask? 0

James seemed to read William's confusion, a contemptuous smile spreading across his face as he slowly lifted his foot off William's chest, as if he could no longer be bothered to play this game. He then bent down, his cold gaze looking down at William, a malicious grin creeping onto his lips. 0

"Do you find it strange?" James's tone was calm, but there was a chilling power hidden within that calmness. "Do you wonder why only you, William, think I'm garbage, a beast? Why does everyone love me and worship me? And you, why have you become the odd one out?" He chuckled softly, his voice laced with sarcasm and malice. "Is that right?" 0

William fought against the pain coursing through him, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He gritted his teeth and pushed himself up with his elbows, struggling to raise his upper body. His limbs trembled slightly, but he tried to stand, feeling as unsteady as a puppet nailed to the ground. "You... damn right you are," William rasped, his voice hoarse with endless pain and fury. 0

His hands pressed against the floor as his legs wobbled beneath him. Yet he resisted the instinct to yield and slowly stood up, glaring fiercely at James's face. "I don't understand! Why is it only I who can see your true form? Why is everyone in this damned world so blind?" He gritted his teeth, his voice trembling yet still filled with rage. 0

James stood before him like a ruthless puppeteer, wearing a victorious smile. He looked at William's disheveled appearance with satisfaction at this silent confrontation. "Perhaps, William," he said in a cold tone laced with venomous softness, "it's because I know how to manipulate this world too well, while you will never understand." James gently patted William's shoulder as if mockingly comforting him. "Perhaps this is fate's arrangement, isn't it? You are destined only to see while I am destined to control." 0

As William listened to these words, anger and helplessness surged within him. He wanted to retaliate, but faced with James's calm yet extremely confident tone laced with power, he felt unable to respond. His hands clenched into fists, but that sense of powerlessness still wrapped around him like a shroud of defeat. 0

Finally standing up despite the trembling in his body and the throbbing pain in his right hand, William was overwhelmed by countless questions and resentments. In that moment, James's maniacal laughter interrupted his thoughts. The laughter was cold and piercing like a blade scraping across glass, sending shivers down William's spine. 0

"Hahaha, William!" James's laughter grew louder and more triumphant as a sinister glint sparkled in his eyes as if he could see through William's very soul. "But honestly, I've played this game long enough." There was a hint of madness in James's deep voice. 0

Before William could respond, suddenly James moved. With a casual wave of his hand, a chair slid from several meters away and came to rest steadily behind him as if propelled by some invisible force. William's eyes widened in shock; his mouth fell slightly open in disbelief at this bizarre power that surpassed anything he could comprehend. 0

"What... what is happening?" William's voice trembled as if forced from deep within his throat. Instinctively stepping back, fear and confusion etched across his face. 0

James looked at William triumphantly, a cold smile curling at the corners of his mouth. He leisurely sat down, crossing one leg over the other and lightly tapping the armrest of the chair as if it were just an ordinary display. "Oh, I know you're surprised, William," James laughed more boisterously now, mischief glinting in his eyes. "But this is just the beginning, my dear." 0

William's heart raced wildly in his chest, his mind a chaotic whirlwind. He couldn't comprehend how any of this was possible. How could James possess such power? This seemingly harmless history professor could manipulate objects, even control everything around him... and how was he doing it? 0

"You... how are you..." William stammered, struggling to find the words, but realizing he couldn't formulate a reasonable explanation. 0

James gazed at William's face, a mixture of terror and shock, and felt an overwhelming sense of satisfaction. He slowly approached, his voice low and cold. "Do you think all of this is just coincidence? Do you believe I simply let you remain unaffected by me?" James mockingly shook his head, the malice in his eyes sending a chill through William's heart. "No, William, everything has been meticulously planned by me." 0

"What... what?" William couldn't believe his ears. He had always sensed something was off, but he never imagined that everything was orchestrated by James. He couldn't fathom how this damned James had managed to manipulate so many people, even the entire faculty and students who bowed to him. They liked him, admired him, even begged him to be their advisor—why, why had no one discovered his true nature? 0

"Yes, William," James continued with a cold laugh. "I deliberately kept you awake, ensuring you weren't influenced by me so I could watch you descend into despair and see you fall apart." His tone dripped with endless malice, as if each word was tearing at William's soul. "Did you think only you could see through me? I carefully nurtured you, preserving a sliver of your sanity just for this moment—to watch as everything you hold dear is taken from you." 0

Suddenly, countless memories flashed through William's mind: all his plans thwarted one after another, once-close colleagues and friends suddenly distancing themselves from him, even those students who once respected him now turning to James. He had thought it was just bad luck, but now he understood that it was all part of James's hidden manipulation. 0

"Why..." William roared in anger, fists clenched tightly as every muscle in his body trembled with tension. "You've already gotten everything you wanted; why do you continue to torment me?!" 0

James looked at him with eyes full of mockery and delight. "Why?" he whispered, his voice slithering like a snake into William's ears. "Because, William, watching you crumble is far more entertaining than simply gaining power." He leaned closer to William's ear, his tone soft yet icy. "I have left you isolated and helpless, turning you into the most pitiful clown in this game—just for this moment, to see you struggle helplessly before me." 0

William trembled all over, filled with despair and rage. The James before him was no longer the academic rival he once knew; he had transformed into a complete monster—a demon wielding supernatural powers to control everyone. 0

"You madman!" William screamed, though his voice quivered with helplessness. 0

James stood up proudly, looking down at William. "Madman? No, William; this is simply power that you cannot comprehend. You have become the loser in this game of chess—something you cannot accept." He laughed heartily, the sound echoing in the office with the arrogance of a victor. "But don't worry; this is just the beginning. I will slowly make you understand what true pain really is." 0

With a casual wave of his hand, James made a chair slide through the air as if summoned by an unseen force until it positioned itself right in front of William. This time he deliberately let William see it happen, making it clear that he stood no chance against this terrifying power. 0

"I did it on purpose, William. I deliberately kept you awake because I want you to understand that throughout this game, I have always been in control." 0
