On a summer night, the air felt unusually cool.
Xinghe Street was surrounded by police, with more than half of the shops cordoned off. Strangely, they were only conducting basic checks and showed no signs of taking further action, as if waiting for some kind of orders. Amidst the murmurs of the crowd speculating whether this was yet another case of loud thunder but little rain, a familiar Audi Peak parked in front of the Galaxy Bar.
Su Xing stepped out of the car, her slender legs clad in eight-centimeter stiletto heels emerging first. Dressed in a black and white suit skirt, her long, flowing black hair was tied up in a high ponytail. With a meticulously applied makeup, her peach blossom eyes radiated a sharp and determined light.
The dozens of shop managers finally found their backbone. Yang Zekai, the brother who had been with Su Xing the longest, had managed to keep Xinghe Street in order during her absence. However, tonight, Yang Zekai looked flustered and clearly frightened.
He jogged a few steps closer to Su Xing and lowered his voice, "Sister Xing, Du Zi has your brother hanging from the chandelier in the lobby!"
Su Xing's gaze darkened, revealing no hint of panic. She scanned the crowd of people being evacuated from other shops before returning her attention to Yang Zekai.
"Is there anyone in the VIP room?" she asked.
Yang Zekai hurriedly followed her, his expression tightening even more as he replied, "There’s a guest named Shen Zi who cracked the code and took over Jing Qi Ge on the third floor."
This person—he not only didn’t fear Du Zi’s reputation but even had those conducting checks smiling at him!?
Su Xing paused for a moment, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her features. Shen Zi? Did he give himself that title? Has he really returned?
The instant Su Xing stepped into the bar's lobby, she felt two unusual gazes fixated on her. Ignoring the one from above through the transparent glass of the VIP room, she confronted Du Meng, whose arrogance had reached new heights.
"Oh A Xing! Did this little matter really alarm you?" The man's mocking voice sounded even more frivolous under the dim lights.
Du Meng was dressed in a white suit, with his shirt's buttons nearly undone beneath his ribcage as he lounged lazily on the sofa. His legs crossed casually and an eye-catching Rolex rested on his knee while he held a high-end drink provided by the bar between his fingers.
What an act he was putting on.
"Du Zi is joking; Su He is my twin brother. If you beat him to a pulp, you’re slapping me, Su Xing, in the face."
Su Xing maintained her composure, but her gaze flickered to her brother bound on the three-meter-high chandelier—blood seeping from his mouth and body swollen like a pig's head—and she clenched her fists tightly.
Du Meng seemed to only pay attention to Su Xing's delicate hands. He couldn't help but rise and move closer, raising his hand as if to grasp that long-desired, silk-like sensation.
Ke Su Xing had been in this game long enough; it was easy for her to subtly dodge Du Meng's advances. Because of this, when Du Meng got closer, his impatience grew. He had seen countless women, yet none could compare to the allure of Su Xing.
Du Meng clicked his tongue against his cheek. "Sister A Xing! How could I bear to hit you? I want to cherish you, not harm you!"
However, Su He was indeed a piece of work! How dare he mistreat my sister? Regardless of any powerful benefactor or ally you might have behind you, I, Du Meng, must stand up for my family!
Du Meng's gaze turned colder, but his tone remained playful.
Su Xing had ruled the northern part of the city for ten years; over half of the bars on Xinghe Street were under her protection. The very name of the street had been changed in her honor! Business was thriving, and money flowed abundantly, yet no one dared to touch her territory all these years.
Rumors swirled about a powerful figure backing Su Xing, but even she herself was unaware of the truth behind it all.
Su Xing understood her brother's character well—he was not particularly capable but had a knack for causing trouble. Still, he wasn't completely clueless; Du Meng was undoubtedly looking to stir things up!
Su Xing rubbed her fingers together and crossed her arms, exuding a refreshing attitude amidst the chaos. "Du Zi, I believe that when young people fall in love, whatever happens is a matter of mutual consent—no regrets afterward.
If a breakup leads to endless entanglements and such drastic measures are taken, it only shows an inability to let go. Don’t you think?
Love has always been a two-way street. But when it's not an equal partnership, it becomes difficult."
Du Meng sneered coldly. "A man can pull up his pants and deny everything—that's letting go. But if my sister ends up pregnant with his child, what kind of mess is that? The Du Family will not keep that child. If I carry a life on my shoulders, Su He must pay with his own life."
"Sister A Xing," he continued, "if you don't want me to take action, perhaps you should bring out that powerful figure behind you to speak on your behalf? Or better yet, if you become my woman, I could let your brother off the hook—what do you say?"
This was truly Du Meng's intention.
Su Xing had long grown accustomed to men with ulterior motives toward her, but this time it was her own brother who was being threatened. Who could she turn to for help? She had lost her parents at a young age and had fought for everything herself!
Yet she hadn't anticipated that Su He would get into such serious trouble this time; her thoughts became chaotic in an instant. If she didn't show Du Meng some resistance, he would undoubtedly find ways to destroy everything she held dear overnight.
In the blink of an eye, Du Meng leaned closer to Su Xing's ear, whispering in an ambiguous tone, "A Xing Sister, working hard alone is exhausting, isn't it? If you let your brother embrace you, you won't have to worry about your livelihood in the future. Think about it, how does that sound?"
Su Xing instantly frowned and turned her head away, wanting to distance herself from Du Meng. However, she was acutely aware of her current predicament. She quietly glanced up at her younger brother, Su He, and in her eyes swirled a mix of helplessness and struggle.
Su He shared a certain telepathic connection with Su Xing; upon meeting his sister's gaze, he instantly understood everything!
"I spit! Du Meng, get away from my sister! Don't touch her!" Su He shouted excitedly. "I’m in a relationship with Du Meng because we both wanted it. Just because your family is powerful doesn’t mean that breaking up means I’ve mistreated her! I could just as easily say she mistreated me! Who knows whose child is in her belly?"
"Sister, don't pay him any mind. Let’s see if he dares to beat me to death! Worst case scenario, we both die together!"
Blood mixed with saliva sprayed from the corners of Su He’s mouth as he spoke, making him look both ridiculous and disheveled.
Su Xing could clearly sense the sinister aura emanating from Du Meng rising sharply beside her. As Du Meng signaled several men in black to attack Su He again, Su Xing intervened just in time.
She stepped forward and sternly reprimanded, "Shut up! Su He! After living this long, you really have grown older without growing any wiser!"
"Du Zishi has a reputation; do you think he would stir up trouble without investigating the matter thoroughly? Do you think all the police resources in the city are at his family's disposal?! Even if they are wrongfully accusing someone, Du Meng must have some confidence behind her actions!"
With such a pointed remark from Su Xing, Su He finally began to think critically.
After a moment, Su Xing met Du Meng's greedy gaze. Suppressing her discomfort, she forced a polite smile and said, "Du Zi, it's late; I kindly ask you to show restraint. As for other matters, we can discuss them at length later."
