Su Xing looked at him as if she had seen a savior and quickly relayed Shen Jingyu's condition to Qin Yi. They had spent a day together yesterday, so they were not strangers. Su Xing was eager for him to examine Shen Jingyu, so she directly pulled him upstairs.
Luo Hao, who had been studying with Qin Yi all night and even brought over a medical tray, silently lamented his own worthlessness. With such a high fever, why hadn’t Shen Jingyu come to find him last night?
Qin Yi assessed Shen Jingyu's condition and reproached him slightly. Su Xing had no idea he could disturb them in the middle of the night.
“If A Yu allows it, I really don’t want to knock on your door at this hour!”
“Sister-in-law, I mean no harm; I just worry about delaying the captain. None of us can afford that.” As he spoke, Qin Yi began to unwrap the bandage from Shen Jingyu's shoulder, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
But his words only made Su Xing feel more guilty.
Shen Jingyu opened his eyes groggily when touched. The high fever had dulled his alertness significantly.
“It’s my fault for not letting you disturb me. It’s nothing serious. Who gave you permission to blame your sister-in-law?” His voice was weak but still protective of Su Xing.
Qin Yi was almost speechless as he pressed down on the wound to let the black blood flow out. He snapped back at Shen Jingyu, “If you end up with a blood infection, do you think I’ll be able to save you?!”
“Is his condition very serious? What should we do now?” Su Xing looked at his wound; the color of the blood was far from normal!
“Don’t worry, sister-in-law; I wouldn’t let anything happen to him! I already prepared the serum last night, and we have a treatment plan ready for follow-up care,” Qin Yi said confidently after a thorough examination.
Su Xing was startled. “Follow-up treatment? Are there going to be other complications?”
“The snake is non-venomous; it’s just some bacterial infection. However, the fruits from that area and some other foods caused certain mutations in the Python, so being bitten means he’ll have to endure some suffering.”
Hearing Qin Yi explain this way made Su Xing’s heart race even more.
“Don’t listen to this kid’s alarmist talk; if he can’t treat me, he wouldn’t dare stand here!”
Since he is here, it indicates that he is in control of the situation. Shen Jingyu quickly comforted her.
Su Xing looked at Shen Jingyu with some guilt, saying, "You knew about this situation yesterday and didn't tell me. I was afraid you would worry too much." In truth, Shen Jingyu had been feeling unwell all day yesterday, holding on until Qin Yi could find the most effective medicine.
"Brother Yu didn't want Sister-in-law to worry, so he let us suffer instead. Little Qin Yi has been working all night without a wink of sleep," Luo Hao chimed in as he entered from behind, both seeking praise and complaining.
Su Xing quickly looked at Qin Yi and Luo Hao with gratitude in her eyes. "You both have worked hard!"
"Oh, Sister-in-law, this is a sign that Big Brother is showing concern for his subordinates! I feel so warm inside! After mixing with Brother Yu for over five years, he has never praised me even once. Sister-in-law is the best! But you must have had a tough time taking care of Brother Yu last night, right? Should I have someone bring you breakfast? What do you like to eat?"
Luo Hao was always a bit offbeat, and his words made Su Xing feel embarrassed.
"I'm fine with anything. As for Brother Yu, does he need to avoid certain foods? Just prepare what he likes," Qin Yi replied quietly as he administered a serum to Shen Jingyu and cleaned his wounds again.
The sight of cleaning the wounds made Su Xing's tears well up. "Is it necessary to clean the wounds like this every time? Can't you use anesthesia?"
Sweat beaded on Shen Jingyu's forehead. Although he was enduring the pain without showing any expression, Su Xing felt as if she could sense his suffering; her heart ached for him.
"This little injury? Do you really need anesthesia?" Qin Yi raised an eyebrow at the lying captain. "Last time when I dug out a bullet from you, you didn't look this pained. Brother Yu, are you trying to make Sister-in-law worry?"
Shen Jingyu shot a glare at Qin Yi.
Su Xing felt even worse. "When did you ever get shot? What have you been doing these past few years?!"
Shen Jingyu sighed helplessly. "It's nothing serious anymore. The wound is on my thigh; I can show it to you when there’s no one around."
"Should I be grateful that you didn’t end up dead? So I still have the chance to see you again?!" Su Xing said angrily, her concern overwhelming her emotions.
Seeing this situation, Qin Yi finished treating the wound and decided it was time to leave. After all, the information he had inadvertently revealed had already taken effect.
"It would be best for you to stay here for a few days; Sister-in-law can take care of you closely!"
Shen Jingyu glared at him. "Mind your own business!"
He planned to stay here for another couple of days; the past could be thoroughly uncovered!
"Brother, after you rest well, write up the reports for these two days."
Luo Hao wanted to escape! Watching the show came at a price! The reports he had to write regarding the events of the last two days would require at least thirty thousand words. He was sure he would be exhausted, slumped over his computer!
Shen Jingyu said nothing more; staying longer was impossible. Besides the ticking time bomb that was Lawrence, his grandfather was waiting for him, and he was likely to explode with anger.
Qin Yi briefly taught Su Xing a few things about how to take care of Shen Jingyu before leaving with Luo Hao.
Su Xing noticed the fatigue in their eyes and the dark circles beneath them; they had truly dedicated themselves to Shen Jingyu. So she sincerely thanked them. Yet they still wore expressions of voluntary obligation.
Once only Su Xing and Shen Jingyu were left in the bedroom, she began to interrogate him.
"You seem to have made quite a few good friends!"
"They're all brothers who would risk their lives for each other," Shen Jingyu replied honestly.
Su Xing did not deny it: "It seems that your military career has brought you a passion. But what about now? Do you still hold onto that passion? Are you still fighting for it?"
Her scrutinizing gaze and the certainty in her eyes made it impossible for him to lie.
"His identity as a Special Forces Captain is a secret," Shen Jingyu said. "The passion of my life is you. No matter what I do, it is only with your support and encouragement that I have come this far."
Su Xing fell silent at Shen Jingyu's words.
It was true that she had encouraged him to join the military, believing that someone who often contemplated suicide must carry too much negativity within them. The military, filled with masculinity, was where he could experience that blood and glory.
In reality, Su Xing had merely mentioned it casually. However, events unfolded around Shen Jingyu that gradually led him down this path alongside Han Shuo.
If nothing unexpected happened, his identity would likely parallel Shen Lao's, living in the shadows alongside him for a lifetime!
For a moment, Su Xing found herself unable to comprehend; had she truly been involved in his life from the very beginning? And had she made a significant impact on his journey?
