Luo Hao firmly believed that if that reckless person dared to interrogate anyone, he would reveal his identity and give them a good lesson! Fortunately, the captain beside him promptly gestured to Shen Jingyu, saying, "Please, Shen."
Thus, Shen Jingyu swaggered into the nearby police station. He was invited to the director's office. The director respectfully served Shen Jingyu a cup of tea, wearing a smile as he opened up the conversation.
"Shen, you just took office and should be extremely busy, yet here you are for such a trivial matter, coming to have tea with me. Just look at that!" He continued, "I will make sure my subordinates resolve this issue quickly and clear your name. I won't let you suffer any bad reputation."
"Please bear with me for a moment in my office," he added with a chuckle.
Shen Jingyu casually glanced at his watch; it was five-thirty. Someone should be getting off work soon and would be arriving shortly. Seeing that Shen Jingyu was not giving him any face, Yu Yiqing could only awkwardly sip his tea alone. As for the case, it seemed this esteemed figure had no intention of discussing it with him.
It wasn't until several footsteps were heard outside the door that Yu Yiqing straightened up and promptly walked over to open it. The visitor was Yu Yiqing's direct superior, someone who was rarely seen outside of high-level meetings. Today, however, he had called ahead and even came in person.
Shen Huai Min was a handsome middle-aged man, tall and slender, with sharp features that conveyed a sense of authority. Yet, his demeanor was humble as he engaged in conversation.
"Yu Ju, I apologize for the trouble. I hope you don't mind if I borrow your space for a moment to chat with my nephew?"
"Not at all! Your presence here brightens my office. Your time is precious; I was just about to discuss some official matters with Xiao Chen," Yu Yiqing replied with a bright smile as he stepped outside with Shen Huai Min's assistant.
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Shen Jingyu still sitting there nonchalantly, sipping tea without even glancing up when Shen Huai Min arrived. However, who could blame him? After all, he was the nephew.
The door to the office closed behind them. Shen Huai Min walked briskly to the guest sofa where both uncles and nephews took their seats opposite each other. Upon closer inspection, they shared about sixty percent resemblance in their features.
Compared to Shen Huai Min's gentle strength, Shen Jingyu was undeniably cold and fierce.
"Xiao Yu, it's been a long time since we've seen each other," said the middle-aged man, his voice mirroring Shen Jingyu's but carrying a sense of fragmentation as he spoke.
Shen Jingyu lowered his gaze and set down the teacup in his hand. He raised his eyes to meet the face of this family member from his childhood. The resemblance between him and his father was striking; despite being only a year apart, many relatives had remarked that they looked like twins. In that moment, through his own features, it felt as if he could see his father from years ago. Would he also bear this same appearance after enduring the passage of time?
His uncle struggled to call him by that title. There was no warmth, no emotion in him. "Did you really have to go through so many means just to see me?"
Shen Jingyu had indeed been avoiding the Shen family. As a child, he hid for his mother; as he grew older, he hid due to the lack of affection.
Shen Huai Min immediately grew anxious and began to explain, "You don’t need to worry about Du Gang. That guy is cunning but hides his tracks well."
"But your uncle truly misses you; you are like another son to me!" His elder brother Shen Huai Ming had just passed away the year he got married and did not yet have a son of his own.
When Shen Jingyu was young, they lived as one family, and they were close relatives. He cherished this child like a precious gem, just as his elder brother did. However, after the death of his brother, the impact on Sister-in-law was too great; she never returned to the Shen family and forbade Shen Jingyu from visiting. They knew that Jing Yu was Deng Xiaoya's last support, something they could not take away.
Yet, they never anticipated that Shen Jingyu had endured years of hardship that were worse than being taken away from the Shen family. But as long as Shen Jingyu remained silent about these matters, Shen Huai Min would remain unaware.
A sense of melancholy washed over Shen Huai Min as he gazed into the distance, reminiscent of a bone-chilling afternoon from years past. Back then, your mother swore an oath never to see the Shen family again and forbade them from interfering in your life. Your father loved you both dearly; when your mother threatened her life, how could we dare disturb you?
"Xiao Yu, how have you been all these years?" Mu Zhenhua...
Shen Huai Min hesitated to continue asking questions; there was no need for him to pry. What could a stepfather do? Moreover, no one could compare to his elder brother, could they?
I have long since reached adulthood and am about to start my own family; there is no need to dwell on the past.
Shen Jingyu's words floated lightly in the air, as if they could erase the years of suffering and torment.
"Uncle, my arrival at the Shen Family is merely grandfather's arrangement. I will only do what I am supposed to do. Come, the part that belongs to you and your children will never change."
Shen Huai Min furrowed his brows tightly. "Do you think my search for you is because I'm afraid you'll take over the Shen Family? You underestimate your uncle and aunt, as well as your siblings whom you've never cared about! Hmph! A truly sincere child should not be seen as greedy and calculating. It's a shame!"
Shen Jingyu remained unfazed. "Uncle, from now on, let's just maintain the status quo. Once I stabilize my position in the Shen Family, I will distribute the family shares equally among them."
Initially, Shen Lao had transferred all shares to Shen Jingyu's name to ensure her smooth acceptance of the group's affairs, as the Shen Family had not yet split. This meant that her uncle and aunt would inevitably find themselves with nothing to gain.
However, the Shen Family was respectable; everyone held significant positions and jobs. As for whether they truly cared about this wealth, Shen Jingyu could not fully comprehend. But he had to say this upfront.
"Xiao Yu, is this really all that’s left for you and your uncle to discuss regarding family matters?"
Shen Huai Min felt a pang of sadness in his heart! But what position did he have? After all, wounds inflicted by close relatives run deepest.
Otherwise, should they talk about feelings? I'm not six years old anymore, Uncle.
In this matter concerning the Shen Family, you should have avoided it; there was no need for such a grand involvement—it wouldn't reflect well on you!
The Shen Jingyu he saw after the New Year was simply a symbol of indifference in Shen Huai Min's eyes.
"When did I say I wanted to meddle in Shen affairs? I just wanted to see you!"
With my status, where could I possibly meet you? You’ve only set foot in Shen Mansion once this year and didn’t even stay long enough to eat!
Are you asking me to shamelessly investigate your properties or meet you through the Mu Family? I can’t even find your phone number! Aside from seizing this opportunity to see you, what else do you expect me to wait for?
Can you come visit me? At this rate, I might not see you until the day I’m laid in a coffin!
Shen Huai Min grew increasingly agitated as he spoke, eventually cursing his own nephew directly.
Listening closely, Shen Jingyu felt a sudden throb in his brow. It was truly a rare occurrence for someone to address him in such a manner while speaking.
