Once the crowd beneath the car had dispersed, Su Xing quietly stepped out. She walked directly to a pavilion and sat down in front of the three members of the Sun Family.
Luo Hao had brought people, naturally causing both teams to part ways, and Su Xing appeared before Liu Jia like a star surrounded by the moon.
"Who are you?" Liu Jia looked at the young woman before her, feeling a momentary fear due to the aura she exuded, especially since she was accompanied by so many subordinates.
Su Xing spoke indifferently, "I am a relative of someone you harmed."
Luo Hao raised an eyebrow at her words, contemplating whether he should record this statement to show Brother Yu later.
"Who have we harmed? It’s Shen Group that forcibly relocated us. We had no choice but to move here. We don’t even have rent money; we haven’t received a single cent in compensation."
"We are the victims here!"
Liu Jia scrutinized Su Xing, who radiated wealth and elegance. Young and beautiful, she possessed both grace and looks. Although she wore few accessories, each appeared quite valuable. Her attire resembled that of a domineering female CEO from television dramas; her presence was commanding enough to make Liu Jia feel inferior as a fellow woman.
A thought crossed Liu Jia's mind: "Are you that big boss's mistress? You want to pay me off to keep quiet, don’t you? Let me tell you, I’m not falling for that!"
"My man is dead! I want what belongs to us and fairness!"
"You foolish woman! You heartless harpy! How could my brother die for nothing? You must compensate us; he was my biological brother, and our parents need support. You must pay according to the highest standards of elder care until our parents pass away."
"Also, my parents lost their son; that’s a loss of life expectancy, and it’s all connected to you people. You must compensate us for that—what's it called? Emotional damages!"
"At least fifty thousand! Plus support fees—"
Sun Guihong spoke as she thought, rattling off numbers without hesitation.
Su Xing crossed her arms, uninterested in the unreasonable old woman. Noticing Liu Jia’s frustration building, she casually instructed Luo Hao behind her, "Shut her up."
With just a glance from Luo Hao, one of the bodyguards swiftly moved in, striking Sun Guihong on the neck. She immediately fell forward onto the stone table, unconscious.
Liu Jia's eyes widened for a moment before she shrank back slightly and muttered, "You’re trying to scare me..."
Sun Peng chuckled darkly, his voice laced with an unhealthy undertone.
Su Xing cast a cold glance at the bodyguard behind her, thinking that this person might be more trouble than they were worth. Just then, a media crew approached, seemingly eager to stir up controversy.
"Excuse me, are you from the Shen Group? Are you here to bribe the deceased's family to drop their lawsuit?" one reporter shouted. "Did you use threats? Why is there someone lying down over there? Are they related to this incident?"
Irritated, Su Xing furrowed her brows. The fact that these people had made it here meant someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes. There was no point in discussing things here; she could only remain silent.
She shot a glance at Liu Jia before turning back toward her car. The remaining time was hers to handle with the media as she saw fit. The truth would eventually come to light, and she would let them twist in the wind as they pleased.
Luo Haoxian hadn’t expected the media to be so relentless in this situation. While he made a call to the Shen public relations department, he returned to Su Xing's car.
Su Xing was in the driver's seat, messaging Randy on her phone: "Investigate Liu Jia and her son. I want to know about their spending records and anything else relevant."
Luo Hao got into the car, and Su Xing frowned. "Sister-in-law, Brother Yu won't be back for a while. The Sun family has hired a lawyer and submitted evidence against Shen for maliciously dragging things out and using threats to evict them from their original residence."
She silently observed a middle-aged woman who appeared non-threatening but was clearly not simple-minded either. "As far as I know, Brother Yu has only taken over Shen for less than a week. How can he be held responsible for this?"
"Shen is still unstable; it’s quite chaotic," Luo Hao replied.
With that remark, Su Xing felt she had a clearer understanding of the situation. She glanced at her watch; it was nine o'clock—Shen Jingyu needed his medication and dressing change.
"Is there any way to visit him?" she asked.
"Huh?" Luo Hao responded, surprised. "Brother Yu didn’t mention that part yesterday. He’s just responsible for protecting Sister-in-law outside and is taking his time handling this matter. He actually doesn’t even know where Shen Jingyu is right now."
"I don’t know where Brother Yu is either," he added with a sigh.
It was indeed possible to ask casually through connections. But was it appropriate for Su Xing to seek out Shen Jingyu? She had heard that Brother Yu and his uncle had a relationship that resembled a cat-and-mouse game, with one always chasing and the other fleeing. Surely their relationship must be quite strained, right? What if she stumbled upon a tense confrontation? Would Brother Yu send him off to South Africa?
Su Xing looked at Luo Hao with some disdain. "You can go to your own car now. I don't need you here anymore."
Sister-in-law Luo Hao felt useless in Su Xing's eyes. Although Su Xing's attitude was somewhat friendly for the time being, Luo Hao silently got out of the car. He still had a lot on his plate to deal with, but he couldn't ignore Sister-in-law's safety.
Unbeknownst to Su Xing, Luo Hao's thoughts were tangled. She was only focused on the fact that Shen Jingyu needed his bandages changed, and she had to find a way to see him.
Su Xing drove to the entrance of the City Bureau. With her identity, she couldn't easily get in. If she claimed to be a family member, she had no official standing; if she said she was related to the case, she was as far removed as could be.
She quietly took out her phone and dialed a number she hadn't called since the New Year.
"Xiao Xing?" Su Bo answered, surprised.
"It's me, Uncle. I have something to ask you."
A warm laugh came from the other end of the line. "Our big girl is asking her uncle for help for the first time."
"Go ahead and tell me, Uncle will do his best. I just don't know how this little genius of ours can make use of me."
"Well, I remember you have a classmate named Shen Huai Min? Can you get in touch with him?"
Su Bo was taken aback. He paused in the university courtyard, handing over a textbook to one of his students while waving him off.
He moved to stand beside a large tree, preparing to inquire further. "I can reach him, but what do you need him for? You know our family motto is not to ask for favors! Besides, getting involved with someone important has its consequences."
Su Xing understood this well; her grandfather was an academic, her grandmother a member of the writers' association, and her uncles and aunts were all senior professors at universities—a family known for its high standards. When her father joined the military, it was seen as stepping out of his comfort zone; her mother’s career further distanced them from their literary background.
After her father's passing, everything she did felt even more out of place.
However, their family was still relatively close-knit, gathering several times a year, though they never mentioned their father. It was precisely because their relationship was still acceptable that Su Xing would make this call for help to Su Bo at such a time. He certainly did not mean to mock himself; rather, he was very aware of the boundaries he had set regarding this matter.
