Su Xing was so angry that she wanted to punch him, but after walking a few flights of stairs, they found themselves at the door of the director's office.
At that moment, the door was open, and instead of the usual smoke-filled atmosphere, a fragrant aroma of tea wafted out.
As if hearing their footsteps, a man seated in the reception area stood up just as the two entered. Su Xing felt that she might have just seen Shen Jingyu in his middle-aged years; there were many similarities in appearance between him and his uncle.
In her moment of surprise, Shen Huai Min spoke first.
"Hello, I am Jing Yu's uncle. It's quite unexpected that you managed to convince him to make that call for me."
Su Xing blinked at Meng Meng, wondering if this was a preemptive strike or a show of authority. "Star, call him Uncle," Shen Jingyu reminded her.
Shen Huai Min looked visibly pleased.
Su Xing glanced at the man's resolute chin and asked, "When did you become more polite than your sister? What? Are you dissatisfied that I didn't bring a red envelope today, so you can't bring yourself to call me Uncle?"
Her peach blossom eyes briefly locked onto Shen Huai Min's serious face. "Your family is truly full of oddballs."
Reluctantly, she decided to address him properly and said generously, "Hello, Uncle."
"You’re already a high-ranking official; you don’t mind me taking advantage of you with just a simple 'Uncle.' It’s not that hard to say," he replied. "Come in and have a seat."
With such an imposing presence, Su Xing pondered whether she would have to help Shen Jingyu undress here.
Just as she sat down, Director Yu and his assistant appeared at the entrance.
He entered with a face full of smiles and said, "Haha, I’m moving the documents to the conference room for work. If you need anything, just call for me!"
His assistant followed him in and quickly grabbed a stack of folders from the desk. The two only cast a hurried glance at Su Xing before leaving.
So these two had even taken over the director's office! What an imposing presence!
And Director Yu was clearly lacking in experience; he had come specifically to find an excuse to see Su Xing’s true appearance, not afraid of Shen Huai Min giving him a cold shoulder.
After another long silence, Su Xing could no longer hold back and handed some medication to Shen Jingyu, signaling him to take it.
Before Shen Jingyu could speak, Shen Huai Min became anxious. "What do you mean? How did you end up taking medicine? Didn’t Su Bo just say that Su Xing was in a hurry to find you, was it just to deliver medicine?"
"It's just a minor injury, nothing serious," Shen Jingyu replied as he accepted the warm water that Su Xing poured for him and swallowed the pills directly.
However, Su Xing hesitated for a moment before saying, "Jing Yu is injured on his shoulder. He needs to change the dressing every eight hours. If he overexerts himself and doesn't rest well, it could lead to complications."
It had been nearly three hours since his last dressing change, and the area around the wound was likely already swollen.
"Why didn’t you say anything earlier, you brat! Can’t I let you go home and rest properly? Why do you have to endure this here?" Shen Huai Min's voice was filled with agitation as he noticed the dark circles under Jingyu's eyes; clearly, he had stayed up all night, and his emotions were unstable.
He turned to Su Xing urgently. "Su Xing, since you brought the medicine, hurry up and take care of his wound! Or should we go to the hospital? I can contact them right now!"
"No need, Uncle. Xingxing can help me change the dressing," Shen Jingyu interrupted Shen Huai Min's anxiousness and stopped him from reaching for his phone.
His uncle's concern made him forget all about his official demeanor, revealing genuine care instead.
Su Xing was deliberately observing; she wanted to see what kind of attitude this high-ranking uncle had towards his nephew.
Shen Jingyu knew that Su Xing always leaned towards him, wanting to protect him in every possible way.
Quietly, he took off his leather jacket and black shirt, revealing that the pressure bandage underneath was stained with blood.
As he peeled away the large bandage, it became clear that the wound was still oozing abnormal blood.
Su Xing instinctively frowned. "Why hasn’t it closed yet?"
Before she could voice her concern, Shen Huai Min grew anxious upon seeing the situation. "This isn’t serious? How did this happen? Did he get poisoned or something? What kind of animal caused such a large gash?"
"Come home with me; let your grandmother treat you. No one in this country is better than her when it comes to toxin research!"
"It’s snake venom. A professional doctor has already treated it and prescribed specific medicine; it just needs time to heal," Shen Jingyu explained while Su Xing carefully tended to his wound.
However, with her gentle demeanor and Shen Jingyu's mischievous gaze, Shen Huai Min seemed to sense something unusual.
He couldn’t help but remark, "You should at least clean out this contaminated blood first; how can applying medicine be effective without doing that?"
Su Xing paused for a moment with the tweezers in her hand. She found it difficult to be ruthless enough to open up his wound for cleaning.
It was precisely because of this that she had made a mistake, causing no progress in his wound recovery.
Shen Jingyu silently glared at his uncle. "Do you understand medicine?"
Shen Huai Min shot back, "My mother is a retired national physician. Am I not better than you?"
Shen Jingyu's eyes darkened with danger. Who was he arguing with? He glanced at Su Xing and then back at Shen Jingyu's face.
The two of them stood there, their cold, hard lines and commanding presence creating a silent standoff.
Finally, Su Xing released the tweezers in his hand. "Shen Jingyu, if you can't handle it, shouldn't you find someone more professional to help you?"
Shen Jingyu's anger flared as he shot a furious look at his troublesome uncle.
Shen Huai Min ignored the tension and moved closer. "Let me do it!"
Su Xing remarked, "This girl is quite impressive; she knows her own issues and can face them directly. Uncle will personally teach you—if you can't bear to be tough just once, you'll end up suffering multiple times. Don't you agree?"
Without hesitation, Shen Huai Min took the tweezers and cleaning cotton from Su Xing's hands and approached Shen Jingyu's wound. She applied iodine with precision and care, swiftly cleaning out the infected blood.
With Su Xing's assistance, she applied a special ointment inside the wound before finally bandaging it up.
Su Xing seemed to recall that day when Qin Yi had cleaned Shen Jingyu's wound in a similar manner. Watching him inflict pain on Shen Jingyu had instinctively made her feel guilty; she thought to herself that it shouldn't be so harsh.
But it was this very thought that had caused Shen Jingyu's wound to remain swollen and uncleaned.
After Shen Huai Min finished bandaging him up, Su Xing quietly handed Shen Jingyu his shirt and helped him put it on.
Only then did Shen Jingyu catch a glimpse of guilt in her eyes.
"I've done my part; you can handle things here. I'm leaving now."
"Wait for me." Shen Jingyu tightly grasped Su Xing's small hand as she helped him fasten his buttons, determined to keep her by his side.
Shen Huai Min could see through his nephew’s little tricks—using physical suffering to gain sympathy. But he couldn't bear to see his nephew endure such pain; the large wound was red and swollen—how uncomfortable it must be!
So he took on the role of the villain, even if it meant that Shen Jingyu would dislike him even more.
