He Xiaoqing remained silent for a long time before replying, "A Xing, I have to see him."
Su Xing sighed and asked, "Is it because of my dad?"
He Xiaoqing did not answer; her silence spoke volumes.
At noon, when the sun was at its peak, Shanhai Park surprisingly lost its usual liveliness. In front of an artificial hill, Lawrence and Hei Mao were both dressed in suits. The difference was that Lawrence exuded an air of authority, holding a bouquet of vibrant roses in his hand.
With a single phone call from Su Xing, eight cars followed He Xiaoqing's vehicle, blending into the crowd. However, as they approached Shanhai Park, they discovered that the area had been cordoned off with police tape.
Hmph! A mere trick! Su Xing knew that it must have taken considerable effort for Lawrence to seal off such a large park. He was creating an atmosphere of tension for He Xiaoqing, making it clear that his power was beyond measure.
Su Xing paid little attention to his childish antics. Just as she prepared to follow He Xiaoqing inside, she was unexpectedly diverted.
Li Li's call came through just in time. "Xingxing, in an hour, we’re meeting boss Zhang. The location is set at Jin Zun Mountain."
Su Xing furrowed her brow. "What kind of place is that? I've never heard of it."
She had no idea where Jin Zun Mountain was. In this city, there were few prominent places she was unaware of, and this was one of them.
"It's a club on Jin Feng Mountain to the east. I’ll send you the location; you need to come over quickly. I’ll buy you an hour, but you have to hurry!"
After a moment's hesitation, Su Xing knew she had to set aside her current situation. She briefed Yang Zekai and instructed him to lead the team protecting He Xiaoqing and Ling Mo.
She drove alone towards Jin Feng Mountain in the east. The road was quite secluded; before reaching the summit, she had to navigate a winding mountain road. The further up she went, the quieter it became. The sound of horns on sharp turns only startled the birds in the trees.
Su Xing was unfamiliar with this area. Following her navigation, she finally reached the top of the mountain and saw dozens of luxury cars neatly lined up in front of an imposing building.
This was Jin Zun Mountain. The name of the club was displayed prominently in large characters atop the five-story structure. From a distance, the surrounding forest stretched endlessly, leaving one wondering where it would lead.
It was yet another place that was easy to defend but hard to attack, and for Su Xing, if anything dangerous happened here, escaping would be quite difficult.
"Star, you finally made it! Hurry in, Zhang is getting impatient!"
Li Li rushed out from the entrance and opened Su Xing's car door with enthusiasm. Su Xing glanced at Li Li's professional attire, which was quite different from her usual style.
"Is that so? This place is a bit hard to find; I never knew such a luxurious spot existed in the city."
Su Xing surveyed her surroundings. The stone lions at the entrance seemed to be made of a special material, and as she passed by, a refreshing fragrance wafted through the air.
"You probably don’t know this, but Zhang is no ordinary person. His wealth is just the most superficial label; you’ll only see his true abilities once you start collaborating with him!"
Li Li seemed eager for Su Xing to reach an agreement with Zhang. However, a strong sense of resistance welled up within Su Xing.
Yet, when they reached a private room and were suddenly asked to hand over their phones, Su Xing's expression darkened completely. If there was no genuine collaboration, and if she had to be so guarded against her partner, then there was no need for cooperation at all.
Su Xing turned on her heel to leave. "Are you kidding? If I lose my phone and they take my belongings, wouldn’t I be at their mercy once I go in?"
Li Li quickly grabbed Su Xing's arm. "Hey, don’t be impulsive! You need to understand that Zhang isn’t alone in there. Some people are very concerned about their whereabouts; they’re just trying to protect themselves!"
The relationship between officials and businessmen is quite delicate; they have to be cautious!
Su Xing furrowed her brows tightly. "Who exactly is this Zhang you keep mentioning?"
"A capable person!" Li Li replied with an enigmatic smile.
Su Xing could vaguely hear a woman's voice coming from inside the room.
"They're looking for a lady," she thought, feeling disgusted by the idea. If they were bringing women into discussions, it showed a lack of respect for women and indicated ulterior motives! Having suffered losses in this regard before and having offended many because of it, Su Xing felt increasingly hesitant.
But Li Li pretended to be mysterious and said, "This time it’s really different. Inside, they’re not just ordinary people; they’re figures who usually remain hidden from view."
Impatiently, Su Xing was about to protest when Li Li pushed the door open.
"Let’s go in and see for ourselves."
Su Xing felt a hint of intimidation and seduction in Li Li's voice.
As soon as she entered the room, before she could recover from her shock at the scene before her, Li Li had already taken her bag and phone, placing them on a nearby table. On that table lay several handbags, and prominently displayed next to them was a signal jammer.
Just how clandestine was this meeting?
It made sense, though. Sitting next to a greasy man with slicked-back hair was no ordinary person; it was the international superstar, Han Ruoxi! Su Xing couldn't help but think how she always seemed to be at the forefront of everything, especially when a major investor had just arrived in the city. Did she have a nose for opportunity, or was she deliberately testing whether Shen Jingyu would still care about her?
"Miss Su," Han Ruoxi said with a sly smile, "you’re much better at entertaining than I am. A distinguished investor like Zhang needs a warm and skilled woman like you by his side. Why don’t we switch places? You’d have a much easier time chatting with him."
Han Ruoxi’s words were a deliberate jab at Su Xing, meant to belittle her.
Zhang Tianba, holding a slender cigarette between his fingers, laughed. The third tooth beside his front teeth was made of pure gold and gleamed brightly. He pulled Han Ruoxi closer to him, his voice grating like a broken gong. "Little beauty, if you keep talking like that, I might just think you’re jealous! But I can't help myself; I’m drawn to the real deal."
He inhaled sharply near Han Ruoxi's neck.
Su Xing noticed the tension on Han Ruoxi's face—disdain and resistance were evident. She realized that Han Ruoxi wasn’t skilled at navigating these social games. Perhaps it was because, apart from Shen Jingyu’s protection, she also had Geng Rui by her side; she must have grown accustomed to being proud and unyielding.
In her attempt to deal with Su Xing, she seemed to forget that Su Xing wasn't adept at such social maneuvering either.
Seeing Han Ruoxi struggle to cope yet not retreat made Su Xing recall what Shen Jingyu had said about Han Shuo and Han Ruoxi's past. In that moment, she felt a pang of sympathy for her rival. She thought perhaps she truly had a compassionate heart after all.
