Gu Yilu ran over to his older brother, just about to speak when he was interrupted.
"What route is the helicopter on? How long until it arrives?" Zhu Man asked in a commanding tone, directing her words at her brother.
Gu Xiao was completely bewildered.
"I'm asking you! How long until it arrives?" Shen Jingyu looked at his younger brother, trying to bring him back to his senses.
But it was clear that the effect was minimal.
Gu Xiao sized up the girl standing before him, dressed in a rather plain manner.
"Are you going to keep staring? Do you want to lose your eyes?" Zhu Man's words were laced with an air of defiance.
"Damn! Big brother, where did you find this hot girl?" Gu Xiao thought to himself, though he also wanted to ask if this was how he treated his sister-in-law. However, under the imposing presence of his older brother, he swallowed those words back down.
Before Shen Jingyu could even open his mouth, Zhu Man shot him a disdainful look. "Are you going to continue listening to nonsense here?"
The young girl boldly took a seat in the leader's vehicle, while Shen Jingyu, the second-in-command, and his father, the top commander, said not a word.
Who is this person? Are they really that impressive? Gu Xiao was utterly confused.
Shen Jingyu glanced back at the team and noted that the main force was ready. He then spoke in a deep voice, "Get in the car first; we’ll talk later."
In the end, Shen Jingyu did not share a vehicle with them. Instead, Rong Xigu squeezed into the car behind them at the right moment. He needed to hear what had happened in these past few days!
After half an hour of driving, they arrived in front of a spacious passenger aircraft. Although they couldn't make a grand entrance for the two heroes, this level of reception was certainly impressive enough!
During the four-hour flight, Zhu Man stayed tucked away in a corner, fiddling with something on her computer.
Rong Xigu and Gu had so much they wanted to say but found themselves unable to voice it.
Finally, after enduring four hours filled with silent struggle and tension in their glances, they finally landed at their home airport.
On the plane, Shen Jingyu didn’t hesitate to take a shower; after days of travel and dust, he was finally about to meet Su Xing and realized he needed to freshen up his appearance.
At this point, Zhu Man got a glimpse of a truly handsome man. However, she only glanced a few times; after all, he wasn't her type! There was no need to waste time on him.
Meanwhile, their friends were left somewhat bewildered.
When they disembarked from the plane, Shen Huai Ming and Su Bokan were so intimidated by the dark crowd below that they didn't even want to stick their heads out!
The Shen Family and the Su Family had both mobilized in full force. Even the frail Su Xing was bundled up warmly, standing amidst the crowd.
Aside from the group of friends and family, the front line was occupied by leaders of high rank, with Shen Zhengxin standing right in the center. As he watched the plane touch down, his anticipation was palpable, as if he could see inside it.
"Mom, are you scared?" Su Xing asked, gently touching her trembling arm. It was clear she was extremely nervous.
"Of course!" Ms. He Xiaoqing replied without hiding her emotions. "Your father has been so seriously injured; isn’t it concerning that he didn’t want to come?"
Su Xing couldn’t help but chuckle at her mother’s worries. "Military personnel place great emphasis on mental fortitude. If they’ve made it this far, their inner strength must be immense! Just wait and take care of him in his later years; it’s certainly better than your previous insistence on living with that illusory tomb of a man."
Ms. He Xiaoqing shot her daughter a reproachful look. "You little rascal, how can you speak about your parents like that?!"
Though Su Xing's current physical condition was visibly poor, as a mother, Ms. He Xiaoqing felt compelled to project strength. If she were to cry and wail all day, it would be the worst curse for her child! At least that’s how she felt.
Everything seemed to flow as expected, including the man who had just disembarked—Shen Huai Ming and Su Bokan had changed into outfits sent up from below, their attire of high quality.
Dressed in olive green, they looked remarkably dashing, capturing the admiration of the women present.
At the forefront stood four elderly figures, both men’s mothers. Despite their age showing through their worn features, they stood tall to welcome their heroic sons back home.
As Shen Huai Ming descended the steps and scanned the crowd, he felt an ache in his heart for the one person he missed most dearly.
He walked directly to his parents and stood tall, saluting them. "Dad! Mom! Your son has returned!"
Shen Zhengxin and his wife immediately covered their faces as tears streamed down their cheeks.
The embrace Shen Huai Ming offered them only intensified the cries around them.
On the other side, Su Bokan appeared slightly more awkward than his brother; even with a crutch, he struggled to walk smoothly.
Fortunately, his considerate brother-in-law Shen Jingyu was right there beside him to lend support.
During Su He’s wedding last time, Shen Jingyu had met everyone from the Su Family; they were all academics and tended to be more reserved emotionally.
However, this time he witnessed the Su grandparents weeping uncontrollably.
It seemed they needed some time to digest everything. Shen Jingyu finally handed Lord Father-in-law over to Mother-in-law, and only then did he focus all his attention on his little wife.
Su Xing was nestled in his arms, and Shen Jingyu dared not hold her too tightly, treating her as if she were a fragile porcelain doll, afraid that he might crush her.
"Why did you come out dressed like this?" Shen Jingyu waved his hands over his wool coat, feeling the chill in the air.
Su Xing shot him a teasing glance. "Look, I'm dressed more than anyone else here! If I put on any more layers, I'll turn into a ball!"
Shen Jingyu's hand finally rested on Su Xing's belly. He didn't dare to ask about the child's condition but could faintly sense its presence.
In truth, there was no noticeable bump on Su Xing's belly yet, but Shen Jingyu could feel an invisible bond between them.
"Sis! Did you see that? Love is real, but children are just accidents!" At that moment, Su Bokan's son, who had been overlooked until now, decided it was better to seek refuge with his sister.
Su Xing smiled with a hint of longing; the scene before her reminded her of a memory—a family of four enjoying an outing together. Although such moments were rare, they were precious memories.
Finally, when Su Bokan could no longer stand and needed to sit in a wheelchair, he remembered his son and daughter and turned to chat with them.
Especially when facing Su Xing, the pain in Su Bokan's eyes was unmistakable. "My Little Princess, you look terrible! Is it all because of this little rascal?"
"Dad didn't agree to let him marry you! I'm here to support you! Kick him out of the house!"
Su Xing replied, "Isn't my dad just as unreasonable?"
