At the entrance of Maple Leaf Village, sunlight spilled over the winding path, and dust rose in a flurry with the sound of pounding hooves.
A man clad in black riding gear rode a tall steed, racing toward the village. This man was none other than Alex, a trusted confidant of Leon.
Alex pulled sharply on the reins in front of the village chief's house, causing the horse to whinny and raise its front hooves high.
He dismounted swiftly, his eyes scanning the surroundings with urgency before striding toward the house.
At that moment, Leon sat on a stone bench in the courtyard, dappled sunlight casting patterns across him.
After some time of recuperation, his injuries had shown significant improvement, yet the pain in his heart lingered like a shadow.
Hearing hurried footsteps, he looked up and met Alex's gaze, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes—surprise mixed with a hint of unease.
"Lord Leon!" Alex hurried to Leon's side and knelt on one knee, his voice tinged with excitement and concern.
"I heard you were attacked and injured, so I rushed here immediately."
Leon regarded Alex, feeling a mix of emotions within him. He slowly replied, "Alex, why have you come?"
"My lord, you are in danger; how could I not come?" Alex raised his head, his gaze steady as he looked at Leon.
"Who dares to lay hands on you? I will avenge you!"
Leon frowned slightly and waved his hand. "This matter is complicated; it is not as you think."
Just then, Alice and Oliver emerged from the house.
Upon seeing Alex, they all paused slightly, a hint of wariness flickering in their eyes.
Alex stood up, his gaze sweeping over Alice and Oliver, filled with suspicion.
"Who are these two? Why are they by your side, my lord?"
Leon let out a small sigh and replied, "Alex, they are my friends. They saved me and have been taking care of me."
Alice stepped forward with a smile. "Hello, I'm Alice, and this is Oliver. We've been looking after Leon since he was injured."
Alex nodded slightly in acknowledgment, but the wariness in his eyes did not fade. He found the situation too strange; how could Leon, a nobleman, have such close ties with these seemingly ordinary villagers?
Oliver watched Alex with unease.
He sensed that this sudden arrival might bring them some trouble.
"Leon, your friend doesn't seem very friendly," Oliver whispered to Leon.
Leon chuckled helplessly and said, "He's just worried about my safety; there's no malice in him."
Then, Leon pulled Alex aside and recounted everything that had happened during this time—from his injury and being saved by Alice to the conflict with Oliver—leaving nothing out.
Alex listened in shock.
"My lord, how could you act so impulsively because of a woman? This is not like you!" His voice carried a hint of reproach.
Leon lowered his head and replied, "I know, Alex. I regret it now. My jealousy nearly cost me everything—and everyone."
Alex looked at Leon, and after a moment of silence, he said, "My lord, since you have recognized your mistake, that is good. But we cannot linger here; your identity is special, and if the enemy discovers us, the consequences would be dire."
Leon glanced at Alice and Oliver, feeling a wave of conflict within him. He knew Alex was right, but he was reluctant to leave this place he had gradually come to know, and he couldn't bear the thought of parting from Alice and Oliver.
"Alex, let me think about it a bit longer," Leon said.
Alex frowned but nodded in agreement.
"Very well, my lord, but time is of the essence; we cannot delay for too long."
In the following days, Alex kept a close watch on Leon's every move. He tried to persuade Leon to leave as soon as possible and return to their own world.
Meanwhile, Leon found himself deeply conflicted in the company of Alice and Oliver. On one hand, he wanted to make amends for his mistakes and regain Alice's and Oliver's trust; on the other hand, he had to consider his own identity and future.
Alice and Oliver also sensed that something was off with Leon. The arrival of Leon's confidant made an already complicated situation even more perplexing.
