At the ball, the melodious music flowed continuously, and guests danced gracefully in the ballroom, their laughter echoing throughout the hall. After conversing with Emily, Leon exchanged opinions with several important business figures and was about to take a short break when a slight commotion arose at the entrance of the hall.
All eyes turned towards the source of the disturbance, where a man clad in a magnificent silver robe slowly entered. The intricate golden embroidery on his robe shimmered under the lights, casting a dazzling glow. The man was tall and imposing, with handsome features that exuded an innate authority. His deep-set eyes sparkled like cold stars in the night sky, making it difficult for anyone to meet his gaze. His presence seemed to radiate light, instantly capturing the attention of everyone present, and the hall fell into a hushed silence.
"Who is that?" Leon asked Theodore in a low voice, curiosity and caution evident in his eyes. In this unpredictable social setting, every newly arrived significant figure could potentially impact their family's revival plans.
Theodore furrowed his brow slightly, surprise flickering in his eyes. "He is Edric, the eldest son of one of the most powerful families in the capital. I didn't expect him to show up here."
Leon felt a chill run down his spine; the appearance of nobility from the capital at this remote town's ball surely held unusual significance. He adjusted his attire and decided to approach Edric proactively; regardless of his intentions, he could not afford to lose face.
Leon strode confidently towards Edric and stopped a few steps away, politely bowing slightly. "Mr. Edric, welcome to this ball. I am Leon, a friend from The Theodore Family."
Edric lifted his chin slightly, his gaze sweeping over Leon before a faint smile graced his lips. "Ah, Leon. I've heard of you; you displayed some remarkable qualities in dealing with that mysterious force." His voice was deep and magnetic but carried an air of superiority.
Leon understood that Edric's seemingly casual remarks were actually probing him. He responded with composure, "That was merely my responsibility alongside The Theodore Family to maintain peace in the town. It is an honor to receive your attention."
Edric nodded slightly, a glimmer of appreciation in his eyes. "Indeed, you have courage and know your place." As he spoke, his gaze drifted past Leon to the dancing crowd in the hall. "This ball hosted by Theodore is quite lively; it seems he has put considerable effort into reviving the family."
Following Edric's gaze, Leon replied, "Theodore has always worked hard for the family's future; this ball aims to establish good cooperative relationships with various insightful individuals to promote prosperity in this land together."
Edric chuckled softly. "Cooperation? That’s a good idea. However, in this world, cooperation requires sufficient strength as support." His gaze returned to Leon as if assessing his capabilities.
Meeting Edric's gaze firmly, Leon stated confidently, "We understand the importance of strength and have been striving to enhance our family's power. Whether through business expansion or our performance in facing various crises, we are confident we can prove ourselves."
Edric listened to Leon's words without responding immediately, lost in brief contemplation. Leon felt a twinge of anxiety but worked hard to maintain his composure, appearing calm on the surface.
After a moment, Edric spoke, "Perhaps we can find a time to discuss this properly. I have some interest in your family's revival plan."
Leon felt a surge of joy in his heart, recognizing this as a rare opportunity, yet he remained composed. "It would be an honor, Mr. Edric. My brother Theodore and I are at your service whenever you wish to visit."
Edric nodded slightly and then, under the gaze of the crowd, made his way toward the VIP seating area in the hall. Leon watched his retreating figure, filled with mixed emotions. Edric's presence undoubtedly brought new opportunities for the revival of their family, but it also came with significant challenges. He understood that collaborating with such powerful figures required utmost caution.
Throughout the remainder of the ball, Leon's gaze frequently drifted toward Edric as he pondered the potential for future cooperation and the risks that might accompany it.
