Lin Menghan rested her chin on her hand, contemplating as she wrote. She was in the midst of crafting a novel. The title was "Meng Xi." The female protagonist was named Xu Han, while the male lead was Lin Chen. 0

After a long while, Lin Menghan paused, realizing that tears had silently soaked the pages of her notebook. The once clear and neat handwriting had become somewhat blurred by the moisture, but fortunately, the content remained legible. She set down her pen and gently wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes. With a soft motion, she closed the notebook and stood up to retrieve the pajamas she had bought earlier that day from the wardrobe. 0

The pajamas displayed a gradient transition from white to gray, adorned with an adorable little bear pattern that looked quite charming. Once Lin Menghan put them on, she appeared even more gentle and endearing. The two had agreed to visit their grandparents' house the next day, and just getting there would take over an hour by car. With this thought in mind, Lin Menghan decided not to delay any longer and climbed into bed. Fortunately, she was not one to have trouble sleeping; it wasn't long before she fell into a deep slumber. 0

In his tidy room, Xu Nancheng lay on his somewhat worn bed, lost in thought as he stared at the blank white ceiling above him, seemingly caught in deep contemplation. The events of the past few days surged in his mind like a tidal wave, leaving him feeling overwhelmed. He had too many questions swirling in his head that he couldn't make sense of. 0

First, he and his friends had recklessly rescued Lin Menghan from a perilous situation. Yet since then, this girl he barely knew had inexplicably begun to draw closer to him, even to the point of wanting him to hold her. It was hard for him to fathom; he was someone who only knew how to bury himself in books like a bookworm and found it difficult to integrate into social circles. Deep down, he harbored a subtle sense of inferiority. What could possibly have sparked such intense interest from her? 0

Moreover, Xu Nancheng felt even more perplexed by the fact that Lin Menghan bore an uncanny resemblance to the girl who frequently appeared in his dreams. In those dreams, he often found himself engulfed in an overwhelming sense of sorrow—why was that? 0

Additionally, while Lin Menghan usually appeared sunny and lively, there were moments when she would inexplicably become despondent and tearful. What could be causing this? 0

Faced with such a tangled web of mysteries that were difficult to comprehend, no matter how hard Xu Nancheng racked his brain for answers, he could never find a reasonable explanation for it all. He thought that even if he mustered up the courage to ask Lin Menghan directly about it, she might not be willing to reveal the truth. 0

Perhaps only time could unravel all these enigmas. One day, when the moment arrived, all truths would eventually come to light. Holding onto this hope, Xu Nancheng's consciousness gradually faded away until he drifted into a sweet dreamland—he didn't even know when he had fallen asleep. 0

The next morning arrived. 0
"What’s your name?" Xu Nancheng asked the girl before him who had her head lowered, unable to see her face clearly. 0

Lin Menghan! The double wood in her name represents the forest, and the dream signifies aspiration. The girl lowered her head. 0

"Such a beautiful name, it really suits your elegance," Xu Nancheng said, admiring her grace. 0

"I’m Xu Nancheng! The word 'Xu' means afternoon, 'Nan' is south, and 'Cheng' refers to stars." 0

"I'm glad to meet you. Let’s be friends!" 0

Upon hearing this, the girl looked up, puzzled. "Why? Everyone else dislikes me." 0

Xu Nancheng noticed her face and suddenly realized her name was Lin Menghan! He felt a jolt of surprise and sat up straight. 0

He glanced around the familiar room. Was it another dream? 0

He reached up to wipe the beads of sweat from his forehead, trying to shake off the lingering sense of wonder that filled his heart. Why had he been trapped in such vivid and elusive dreams lately? Perhaps it was true what the ancients said: one dreams of what they ponder during the day. 0

Ah! Thinking about it, he really did have a connection with her. 0

His gaze drifted to the window, where a faint white light was beginning to appear on the horizon. Dawn was approaching, marking the start of a new day, yet the enchanting encounter from last night lingered in his mind, refusing to fade away. 0

"Nancheng! Aren't you getting up? Lin Menghan has already prepared breakfast for you!" came Lin Zhen's voice from outside. 0

"Okay." He opened the door to find Lin Zhen and Lin Menghan had already set the table, while Xu Wenzhao was tidying up. 0

"Nancheng, you're awake! Good morning!" Lin Menghan said as she jogged over to him, her smile bright and her sparkling eyes full of life, making him feel invigorated. 0

"Good morning!" he replied, scratching his head. He felt a bit awkward being greeted by such a lovely girl first thing in the morning. 0

"Alright, let’s eat," Lin Zhen urged as they all gathered around the table for breakfast. 0

"Wow, Auntie! Your cooking is amazing!" Xu Nancheng exclaimed after taking a bite, his eyes shining with delight as he looked at Lin Zhen. 0

"Oh, stop it! As long as Lin Menghan enjoys it, that’s enough for me!" Lin Zhen replied with genuine happiness. 0

"Mom only cooks so well because you help her," Xu Nancheng added, lifting his head from his plate. 0

"Hey, you've finally woken up!" Xu Wenzhao said with a smile as he picked up some food for himself and Xu Nancheng. 0

The others burst into laughter at his remark. 0

It was already around seven o'clock. If they wanted to go back home, they would need to head to the station and catch a bus to Nanqiao Town, which would take them another ten minutes once they reached the town. All in all, it would take more than two hours. 0

In short, it was quite a hassle. 0

If they were going home, the happiest one would be Xu Nancheng. After finishing his meal and checking the time, he realized it was already seven twenty. A short break of ten minutes would be enough before they could set off. 0

Xu Wenzhao glanced at Xu Nancheng, who was sitting on the sofa in a daze after finishing his meal, and then at Lin Menghan, who was still eating slowly. A flicker of dissatisfaction crossed his mind. 0

What if he just sat there absentmindedly and ended up losing Lin Menghan? It wouldn’t be just a matter of being criticized by the bureau; losing his job or being dismissed would be the least of his worries. 0
